The 1999/2000 Ottke was the best Ottke ever. Afterwards he deteriorated. All these fast hands and feet in this clip were gone by the time he fought Larsen and Reid. Even the Ottke who outpointed Mitchell was already a very much slowed-down version.

He was pretty slick alright. With his frame, I believe he couldve fought as low as 160...most 168 lbers had a significant size advantage over Sven.

Not in 2003 when Ottke was old and slow and there for the taking.

Before that, it was Calzaghe though who showed no interest. For a good reason...

Ottke couldn't lose in Germany irrespective of any 'skills' he had. Anyone travelling to fight Ottke had one chance, and that was to KO him, (even legit KD's were discounted against 'The Phantom'). Ottke, notably, didn't fight Marcus Beyer (almost certainly because he was also German and that would've nixed Ottke's huge advantage). Bottom line is Calzaghe would have been stupid to fight Ottke in Germany and Ottke would (and did) never have left the fatherland.

Ottke's skills went no further than his footwork. All that pitter patter bullshit wouldn't have impressed at all outside of Germany. Comfort zone Joe would have eaten him alive.

Even if Kessler was actually scared of brave brave Calzaghe, that's no problem at all.

He just needs to say once, that he wants at least 10-20 % of total profits from the fight. Then it's sure to never happen.

Well i've heard that before the Lacy fight, Kessler was offered 50.000$ to come to britain and fight with short notice AND at a time when Kessler was well known to be recovering from a back-injury.
Cudos to Warren for showing both both good will, generosity and good timing

I also know that during the summer Beyer was offered a shot at Joe. They had agreed in principle on money and terms, Except Warren wouln't give in on the date, insisting on early september. Beyer needed more time for cuts to heal (from Bika fight) so the fight fell through.
What irony that Calzaghe ended up NOT fighting in september, but is now fighting Bika the same night as Beyer fights Kessler - Nice work mr. Warren

Beyer has even admitted in interviews that he'd rather have faced Calzaghe. But when he learned Calzaghe was not fighting until october, he'd already signed with Kessler.

As for any other offers Warren have made - i've heard of none extended to Kessler. Don't know about Beyer. Please share any information and details about any such offers.

Problably about a tenth of what Calzaghe would make.

If Warren wants decent opposition, he'll need to come up with something better. - But who ever said better opposition was a priority to Warren.
What surprices me is that Calzaghe fans seems to agree.
