The People's Pound For Pound

Post by John »

We are going to try out a new P4P system. Instead of using a subjective ranking of the objective division ratings to create what is in essence still a largely subjective P4P we will cut out the middle and just be transparently subjective.

All users will be able to keep their own ratings and be entitled to vote once a week with the results tabulated every Wednesday.

How does this work exactly, we 're-order' our top 10 and submit it, and boxrec formulates the average?

Every 1st place is worth 10 points every 2nd place is 9 etc etc. Then we will order the fighters according to the number of points they have.

Voted :TU:

Top 7 seem clearly ahead of the pack and could be any kind of order. The remaining 3 is a bit trickier.

Much as I hate to express any opinion it doesn't look too bad to me. We will continue to trial it, voting reopens Sunday afternoon https://boxrec.com/en/p4p

Why would it be a weekly vote, nobody in the top 10 had a fight?

I had 2 trains of thought about doing it this way.

1/ Trolls and morons are likely to vote once but not once a week.

2/ A fighter at #14 has a great fight and someone wants to move him up to #10.

Wow, I COMPLETELY missed the female tab :verysad:

Shields at #6? Dina at #1? Are we rating looks and personality or boxing skill and accomplishments?

Can you allow me to be able to save the rearrangement from 11 to 50?

When assessing the weight of a victory in the p4p sense, it is important to consider the positions of the boxers, the broader the better. I don't want to go in and reorder every time to do it. And for aesthetic purposes it bothers me to see Riikisi, Abdullaev, Hiraoka, etc. above Fernández, Opetaia, etc. My mind really tells me "how bad it looks." Obviously it's subjective.

We'll make it clearer that only the top 20 are saved. Expanding to storing top 50 needs a bit of thinking about.
