Graeme Rutherford (Birtley head coach)Jailed for conspiracy to produce and supply drugs

Post by ordsalloriginator »

He got sentenced to 2 years 8 months ..

https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/no ... s-30023931

And he also had an attempted murder charge from a stabbing dropped earlier in the year
https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/no ... t-28675262

Birtley club was shut down at the end of last year/start of this year because of links to drug dealing
https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/no ... g-28454466

Smh and people like him are supposed to be a good role models for kids.. I knew he had a past in and out of prison but I thought that was a long time ago and he wasn't involved anymore.

Birtley is probably the best amateur boxing club in the country.. shame. Anyone know what's happened or will happen to the boxers trained there pro and amateur?

Many gyms, amateur and pro, are used as "fronts" for dodgy activity. You don't have to be around boxing very long to realise this. Tanning shops and barbers shops are known for it too.

Stobbo, do you know who was in Cyrus Pattinson's corner for his last fight? It's usually Rutherford I think

:TU:

I didn't think Graeme was great in Cyrus' corner for the Conah Walker. Conah fought a great fight, but I thought Cyrus could have won that on with a better corner.

Boxing and drug crime are pretty much standard. Not dragging people's past up but boxing coaches/managers/advisers/promoters in UK who have been involved in drugs:

- Pat Barrett
- Peter Fury
- The Sims
- The Bowers
- John Dillon
- MTK crew
- Mark Quinn
- Bradley Welsh

And kickboxing has loads more as there is zero money in it.

I read a long academic paper on this years ago.

The conclusion was that combat sports recruit from exactly the same socio-economic pools that crime does

And that combat sports also attract people with a high degree of risk tolerance and a high degree of desperation /disregard for their own well being.

So basically a pool of poor but game risk-takers will produce fighters, gangsters and characters with a foot in both camps.

A London fighter named Lee Murray was one of the main subjects of the study. Currently banged up for a massive movie-level armed robbery.

Apart From Macklins Gym Marbella of course

What an absolute fuppin moron to let them use your name "On I met Daniel at an airport he's my best mate really" a bit of banter and now you're in with an international drug dealer (so sue me John Finucane) using your name for his front, the same gym Gary Hutch worked at when all that business started

Happier times when they were setting up other people and not each other

Lee Murray was always a complete scumbag, did smash up Tito Ortiz on the cobbles though

Is the gym where that MMA lad dished out a "revenge" beat down on some young lad who had allegedly got the better of him in the street?

MMA fighter was called Calboutin or something like that, son of a copper.

Another bloke jumped in and it looked like the mma lad had a knuckleduster on.

This lad that they set about didn't fight back, just took a kicking and a real bad one too. Sickening to watch

I think it might have been this gym where it took place

Oh and don't forget, it is viewed, for better or worse, a "macho" sport just by its violent nature and toughness required, it is still a mainstream attraction , Gangsters often have pictures of fighters up on the wall (usually Tyson) or iconic fight moments

Gangsters love to schmooz with fighters the most , sometimes the fighter is also an active gangster

You’ve only to look at the group of fighters that first went out to train at MTK Marbella. I think most of them had links to drugs or they’d had their houses shot at.

On the other hand I know gyms that exclude anyone who is even rumoured to be involved in any bullshit.

The funny thing is that the exact same gym was caught up in this same nonsense a few years back:

https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/no ... ym-1476491

Boxing / MMA are long overdue proper regulation in the UK, although because of the legal reasons others have pointed out on this board already (essentially that full-contact combat sports are technically illegal and happen only because the law is not enforced), God knows when that will ever happen
