What's happened to Sunny ?
Thought his comments pre fight about him broadening his involvement in boxing to include training , promoting etc were a bit odd in the run up to a big fight ...... you don't want any distractions. Maybe the Bam beating changed him forever

Re: Round-by-Round: Sunny Edwards vs. Galal Yafai | DAZN - 30 November 2024
Sunny really lacked heart in the fight. Basically asking to be pulled out after two rounds.
He hung in there for a bit but didn't ever seem to believe he would win. His stink-out-the-joint tactics just wouldn't work on Yafais footspeed.
Another big talker found wanting in the heart department for me. Go all out instead of being conservative and trying to avoid punches on the ropes.
In this day and age you seem to be asking a lot of fighters for them to have the mindset of win or get KO'd trying.

Heartbreaking to watch any boxer say they don't want to be there and have to stand and take heavy shots for 4 rounds.
Dreadful corner. But cheap I imagine.

Maybe I'm a sadist but I don't like that stoppage, Yafai was barely landing clean, I get that he pasted Edwards all night and the end was nigh but at this level I'm wanting something more conclusive, even a quit job or a towel, suppose it doesn't matter, Edwards was terrible, from the opening bell he was in survival mode and didn't want to be there, Yafai was on him like a rash, didn't let up and just got more and more on top of Edwards every round, loved his pressure, variety of speed and power, relentless aggression, wasn't always loading up but kept punching , suffocated Sunny in there

Sky bet were offering 11/10 for Yafai stoppage after round 4. Unbelievable, the writing was on the wall after the first two rounds & what Sunny said in the corner.
I think Yafai was always a bad style match up for Sunny but with the trainer move & the coming off twitter it seemed all wasn’t right behind the scenes with Sunny.

He was basically getting closed down by Yafai, who after sparring him loads has seemed to figure out the footwork. He threw a lot of dummy punches while on the move and Sunny was forced to the ropes too much. After a rough 2nd round Sunny went back to the corner more or less asking to be pulled out and looked defeated. Said he didn't want to be there. Got thrown out into the ring by the corner who weren't having any of it. Tried to counter here and there but as we know, he's got no power at all and just wasn't showing enough desire to actually commit and try to win. Always fought like a defeated fighter. A quitter really if I'm being harsh. Tonight anyway. As he said, he just didn't want to be in there. I think it came down to the sparring. Yafai had over 100 rounds to figure him out.

Everyone saying about the corner .
This is boxing, don't remember many corners pulling their man because they didn't want to be there .

I didn't like it either. It was like he bailed Sunny out of having to actually verbally quit. The stoppage wasn't good with respect to the action that was taking place. Sunny wasn't getting beaten up badly in the corner or anything. Let him go down and then stop it. Jumping in like that was just giving him a way out. His body language was saying he wanted a way out but the canvas is right there if he wants to quit.handsofstone wrote: ↑30 Nov 2024, 19:14 Maybe I'm a sadist but I don't like that stoppage, Yafai was barely landing clean, I get that he pasted Edwards all night and the end was nigh but at this level I'm wanting something more conclusive, even a quit job or a towel, suppose it doesn't matter, Edwards was terrible, from the opening bell he was in survival mode and didn't want to be there, Yafai was on him like a rash, didn't let up and just got more and more on top of Edwards every round, loved his pressure, variety of speed and power, relentless aggression, wasn't always loading up but kept punching , suffocated Sunny in there

I actually felt sorry for the lad in the corner if I'm being honest.
Can't imagine the stick he'd of got if he'd pulled him in round 2 .
He tried his best to rally Edwards, but clearly it wasn't there .

Re: Round-by-Round: Sunny Edwards vs. Galal Yafai | DAZN - 30 November 2024
Thats the point, he wasn't really getting hurt, it was just a lack of heart. Usually its the corners job to pull their man out in that situation. The referee shouldn't be thinking about saving the fighter from having to quit. Not saying he was but as far as I'm concerned unless the fighter is visibly hurt or asking to quit, the referee shouldn't be stopping it. But end of the day it would have been the same result anyway. A stoppage for Yafai. I thought Yafai looked a bit pedestrian in prior fights, labouring to decision wins. I think he might get a bit overrated off this victory over a Sunny who "didn't want to be in there".
