Decent skills, not sure he has the athleticism to go all the way. Looks a bit rigid/upright but a lot of improvements will be made. Has a good jab which will get even better. I'll keep an eye on him.ordsalloriginator wrote: ↑30 Nov 2024, 19:50 Taylor Bevan's pro debut on the undercard

Is this worth watching?
Seems weird to retire at this age or is he just bitter about having a couple of losses on his record? He can be a pundit but he's unlikely to be making as good money anywhere else for the next 40 years of his life.

Definitely worth a watch to see how impressive Yafai looked but also how diminished and troubled Sunny looked
I don't think he's bitter i think he's just made a bit of a kneejerk reaction decision after the worst performance of his career
I'd be absolutely amazed if he never boxed again

Rob Tebbutt posted after the fight that Edwards told him on Thursday he’d retire regardless of the outcome. Listening to Edwards he just seems to have had enough of it all and lost all desire, motivation and interest in boxing. But yeah after a few months off I wouldn’t be surprised if he changed his tune and came back, jumping up in weight. A few people said he looked awful on the scales so he probably can’t make the weight anymore.CaptainSpacerod wrote: ↑30 Nov 2024, 23:12Definitely worth a watch to see how impressive Yafai looked but also how diminished and troubled Sunny looked

What has gone on with Edwards. There's been lots of vague talk about things going on in the background and Bellew mentioned him 'not living the life', so what has actually happened?
That was embarrassing for what was badged up as the biggest flyweight fight in Britain in 40 years. Biggest breakdown I can remember since Oliver McCall.

I really enjoyed the show,
The Aaron Bowen fight was class on the prelims. He has zero defence and I can’t see him going very far like that but will be in some fun fights. Taylor Bevan looked terrific on debut. I thought Spider Suliamann looked good too.
I had Vuong/Gwynne a draw. Vuong looked very small in there compared to Gwynne and doesn’t have the strength or power yet to go up the levels.
Another decent performance from Walker. He’s one of my favourite fighters at the moment - rarely in a poor fight.
The main event was a strange watch. I did have my concerns for Edwards leaving Smith to go to a fairly unknown trainer for a fight like this. I’d imagine he was cheaper.
Whilst Yafai was v.good I think it was just as much Sunny being poor. He was right in front of him for the bulk of the fight and not showing close to the level of movement of even his last fight.
Part of me thinks the corner should have pulled him when he raised his concerns. I also think it’s the corners job to get fighters through times of doubt. Perhaps give him another round or two. Shouldn’t have let it go 4 more rounds though when it was clear it was only going one way.

I don’t think the corner done anything wrong. Sunny talked negative in the corner and the trainer tried to pick him up. When Sunny was landing shots you could hear his corner screaming words of encouragement trying to rouse their fighter. I don’t think the towel should have come in as he was still having success in the rounds. The last round was the round where sunny seemed to check out but he wasn’t hurt, I think the corner probably would of pulled him out in between rounds
Re: Round-by-Round: Sunny Edwards vs. Galal Yafai | DAZN - 30 November 2024
Yafai ,, Well he looked good , , Edwards , well he did'nt look so good , , I'm sure if Edwards when he did throw back and connect actually hurt or backed Yafai up , well i;m sure he would of been more exciting , but facts are his punches just bounced off Yafai , he could'nt hurt him , he could'nt out box him , he could'nt out muscle him . In fact he could'nt anything him ,
so course he looked disheartened , course he went into his shell, he was getting beat up , and thinking fook do i really need this , its my last fight i'm retiring in 20 minuites .
Think the problem arises in the fact he knew it was his last fight , if what he said was true , so rthis indicates he went in for a payday nothing more nothing less , the onus is on him to be profesional and try to win regardless , but seems he was happy to not bother , more intent on defending than actually winning ,
His corner well , suppose your attitude to them throwing or not throwing the towel depends on your views , i suppose you could say he thought stuff it, you took the fight you want to quit, you do it , i'm not doing it for you . Then again he took on a boxer who he knew was retiring after the fight, so what did he expect a life and death battle , perhaps he shuld'nt of sold his soul and trained Edwards for a last fight scenario , after all , trainers want to build the right rep has well .
All in all i think it was another fighter grabbing a big payday , , taking a fight he knew he could'nt win anyway . , but i do believe theres no way he could of won , Yafai was just toooo strong he walked through him

Has Edwards made retirement money? Obv he has had some world title fights, but there isn't a lot of money at fly.
These days you need 400k for an ex council flat in Croydon.
The fact that he looks like a very beatable ex world champ should guarantee him some paydays on the road.
Going to a cheaper trainer smells of cashing out.

If he has cleared 1.5m or above in total, that should be enough as long as he is sensible, esp if he picks up bits and pieces graft too.mickey1975 wrote: ↑01 Dec 2024, 08:06He said high six figures for Bam.Coco wrote: ↑01 Dec 2024, 08:03 Has Edwards made retirement money? Sunny's an intelligent guy with plenty of smarts. I really like him on commentary and as a pundit.Coco wrote: ↑01 Dec 2024, 08:09If he has cleared 1.5m or above in total, that should be enough as long as he is sensible, esp if he picks up bits and pieces graft too.mickey1975 wrote: ↑01 Dec 2024, 08:06He said high six figures for Bam.Coco wrote: ↑01 Dec 2024, 08:03 Has Edwards made retirement money? He'll be back is my guess.
The Bam loss and all the talk before hand - There is being confident and then there is being deluded. Either way it smashed is aura

Thought Sunny and Charlie were at war but good to see they have made up. Life's too short for stuff like that.

Bellew’s comments alluding to him not living the life maybe cast doubt on how sensible he is
That full length fur pimp coat he wore ringside at his brother’s fight recently might’ve cost him five figures.
And I’ve rarely seen a larger ring walk entourage than his from last night, is he paying all those guys to be there ?

Nas retired at 28 didn’t he?
But sunny has nowhere near achieved what he did at this age.
I do feel he’ll be back.
Won’t bet on it.
He shouldn’t have looked so defeated after one round. The negative talk wasn’t good. I don’t blame his corner. Also, there will be a lot of people who spent their hard earned money to pay for tickets and travel to this. They must have felt let down.
He should have saved the negative talk for after the fight.

Edwards will be back in the ring late 2025 at a higher weight.
Mentally he was/is shot post-Bam.
He did a weird interview the other day where he "admitted I am a tobacco addict", talking about a few cigs like it was a life-on-the-ghetto-streets heroin battle or something.
I thought then he was maybe pre-booking an excuse for a poor performance.
But in the event he didn't even have a performance that needed excusing. He didn't even show up.
Couple months he'll be back to twitter trolling and a few months after that he will be back in the gym.

if sunnys ankles have gone as he suggests, then its pretty much game over for such a movement based fighter anyway. hope he stays away. the edwards brothers are funny in that they could never get their careers synchronised, one minute it was charlies moment, the next it was sunnys, then charlies back as sunny falls off.....
Re: Round-by-Round: Sunny Edwards vs. Galal Yafai | DAZN - 30 November 2024
Thought it strange not wanting to be there but maybe he's had enough of making weight and being punched in the head ? He might well do a Naseem and go up to 15st or something and live a life away from boxing ?
Re: Round-by-Round: Sunny Edwards vs. Galal Yafai | DAZN - 30 November 2024
Naz did make millions and millions and that was in the 90's, and he was a clever bloke with his money too.
You need to me much cleverer and more frugal to live off a couple of mill in 2025
