Israel Vasquez was one of my favorite fighters to watch during his career, and I hate to hear that he's passed at such a young age. I know he went through a lot of pain and suffering in his life. I hope it's all over now. I'll always remember him fondly.

Such an exciting fighter and one I avidly watched. Fought a lot of top fighters and took them all on.

His 4 fight series with Rafael Marquez was scintillating.

RIP Champ.

One of the great blue collar champs. Such a brave, persistent and hard worker.

Should be in the Hall of Fame for his wins over Marquez (first three fights had the best offensive skills you'll see), Johnny Gonzalez (stunning come from behind KO), and Larios in a distinguished run as super bantamweight champion.

Rest in Peace, warrior.

He was literally destroyed by Marquez. In the last fight he looked like a crippled man.

and in the fight before, against Priolo, he appeared to have slipped.

I believe that late rally which secured him the win over Marquez in their 3rd fight was the last gasp. He took sickening punishment from arguably the greatest puncher, pound for pound, in the world.

The structure of that fight was actually similar to his non title battle with Hector Velazquez a few years before, another successful rally right at the end. Almost a rehearsal or a foreshadowing.

Something most people don't know about Israel Vasquez: he had a 100% KO percentage in the amateurs.

58 stoppage wins in 58 amateur fights!

According to a Sports Illustrated article from 2008.

Also, during one of his fights vs Marcos Licona, one of the commentators mentioned that Vasquez had 58 wins and 58 stoppages as an amateur.

There are many such claims, very, very few are genuine. Remember amateurs are youngsters and they don't hit as hard. Only 15% of amateur bouts end in a stoppage.

People should have been talking about Marquez vs Vasquez in the same way as ward vs gatti, Barrera vs morales, and pacquio vs Marquez… it was that good and critically that even.

I might be having egg on my face if he’s already in there, but Marquez and Vasquez need to be ibhof inductees together!

Rafael Marquez is already in there. Both are clearly more worthy than Vinny Paz.
