Where is Leigh Wood?
Where is Leigh Wood?
I can't imagine the ShowFilmFirst friendly 'audience with' shows are garnering the moolah that a bout on a Turki bill would. He's been out for a year now.
What's the story?

Re: Where is Leigh Wood?
I was looking forward to a night out in Nottingham. Leigh has been the most exciting fighter in the country, and even more importantly he's learned how to beat a good Mexican, which cannot be taken for granted. Sorry to see him lose his momentum.
Was odd to see Warrington immediately get a title opportunity. I actually don't watch him any more, as I think it's a waste of time - opponents seem to have figured him out, and he inevitably resorts to head butting, which mars a considerable number of his fights. Although he did give Leigh a great fight, and I admire his wins over Martinez (only the first one), Amagasa, as well as the higher profile ones versus Selby and Frampton.

It doesn't. He's overestimated his worth and found out Matchroom don't give a fuk.
Re: Where is Leigh Wood?
That was my thought as well.
Suddenly seemed to develop a toughness that he didn’t use to have in his early 30’s & eats shots for fun.

Moving it to DAZN. Putting way too much on PPV during the Sky days. Completely lying through their back teeth to the public. Everyone goes on about Saudi atmospheres but the atmosphere at Fury v Usyk was better than AJ v Dubois. The refusal for AJ to box Wilder or Fury. I doubt it was his choice. Most AJ fans I knew no longer follow him or the sport. A man like Dalton Smith goes unrecognised at BOXING SHOWS in his own county, I see it with my own eyes. People like Dave Allen, Sunny Edwards and Johnny Fisher only have profiles because of themselves. Even Benn v Eubank is relying on the masses who don't have a clue about boxing.keithmoonhangover wrote: ↑07 Dec 2024, 07:48How so?

And Leigh Wood also got a bit confused about his own popularity. I was at the Lara rematch, a quarter full, the Warrington fight, miles more Josh fans, I wasn't at the Conlan fight but I know he brought a lot. Then he demands a stadium!
Re: Where is Leigh Wood?
Indeed, where the eff is he? He's the most exciting guy around at the minute. Something's not right.

He posted on Twitter on the 17th November that he's close to getting a deal over the line but it's been a frustrating time for him.

He's a free agent and has simply priced himself out of fights. He hasn't hid that he wants some of the Saudi money.
Re: Where is Leigh Wood?
He's been in some serious wars and runs a big risk of paying for it heavily in later life so cant blame him for aiming for a cash out.

It's not great, is it? But not equally as I much prefer Frank. I've always liked him since I started following the sport.keithmoonhangover wrote: ↑07 Dec 2024, 14:49You must be equally furious about Fwank going over to DAZN.mickey1975 wrote: ↑07 Dec 2024, 08:38Moving it to DAZN. I think it’s pretty extreme saying they’ve ‘ruined British boxing’.mickey1975 wrote: ↑07 Dec 2024, 08:38Moving it to DAZN. Putting way too much on PPV during the Sky days. They were instrumental with Sky in making British boxing big again but moved to DAZN because it was best for them financially and that it gave them more control to be able to put on non U.K. shows.
Same as I wouldn’t criticise Frank for leaving Sky Sports to start BN because he believed it would be best for his business. It did mean, as with Matchroom’s shows, they had a lot less U.K. viewers.
MR and Sky Sports were excellent partners. I’d agree they did too many PPVs though.
Sky remained invested in boxing and we had some pretty big fights initially post MR but things have heavily dropped off since.

Re: Where is Leigh Wood?
I said I doubt it was his choice. I don't think anyone now can claim AJ was desperate to face Wilder and Fury. He gambled on Usyk being too small. He's got an immediate rematch on a plate that he's terrified of taking. Hearn has literally been saying "all roads lead to undisputed" for years. Fury and Usyk did it and are rematching within 7 months.Frostieballs wrote: ↑08 Dec 2024, 06:14AJ refusal to box Furymickey1975 wrote: ↑07 Dec 2024, 08:38Moving it to DAZN.
