Barrera wins effortlessly

Post by lvlarc »

Ok it may not of been pleasing to the eye, but he did what was needed and won with ease. I only had him losing the 3rd round.

I think before you judge him on that fight, first think about all the wars he's been in. He made very few mistakes and I said in round 4 he would win alone with just the jab. Juarez should of been more determined and went for broke even if it meant getting countered the shit out of, that was his only chance since Barrera wasn't going to make the same mistake he did in their first fight.

Marco boxed well conserving his energy for the later rounds, but where does he go from here?

Pacquiao will beat him again IMO, and maybe Marquez too, Guzman may be all wrong for him but I'm not sure.

The undercard was cracking! Paez-Campos was turning into a little war, shame it was only a 4 rounder. Guzman impressed me, and Vasquez came back from being 5 points down and 2 knockdowns, to take Gonzalez out in the 10th!

Good night of boxing, main event didn't pay upto the hype as fight of the year but the undercard was quality.

That's what a real pfp boxer can do and does - adapt to his opponents' styles.

Barrera did what Witter got slated for on Friday night (albeit with classical skills). He first made sure he didn't give the other guy oportunities to hit him. Corley wanted to sneak-counter Witter. Juarez wanted to advance, & throw his punches over Barrera's to knock him back and wrest momentum. Neither were given that opportunity which was their key chance of winning. Then MAB stole the openings when they were there against an exasperated, subtly dominated opponent - as JW did.

Boxing is the art of hitting and not getting hit. The top P4P guys are boring but fight mega fights - Hopkins, Wright, PBF (slightly more exciting). Look at Wright and Hopkins before they had mega fights they'd be called boring like Witter is now.

If Barrera brawled and went toe-toe he'd give the younger stronger Juarez a target to hit, instead he used footwork, slipping ability and a tight guard to shut him out while picking holes in Juarezs weaker defense. Who knows maybe he can do this against Paquiao too

I knew the minute I saw the weigh in photo's that this was going to be easy. I thought it was more the damage to the nose and motivational problems that were the main reason's why Barrera struggled first time.

Now, he was in shape and he put on a master class.

I think Pacquiao will be too much for him at this stage, but I would tip Barrera over Jesus Chavez.

I can only see Barrera losing to Pacquiao again if that fight happens. There's no way he'd be able to fight at that pace against Pac-man, and if Juarez's shots can cause him problems (as they did in the first fight) then Barrera is going to end up like Morales did last time out.

WTF were those 115-113 scores about?

Juarez was one round away from a majority draw!

It does go to show you sometimes get plain bad judging, it's not corruption as such because you would expect Barerra being the fighter backed by Golden Boy Promotions to be the beneficary of any 'favourable' scoring.

Had Juarez won the last 2 rounds he would have won the fight!

he just needs to find a good balance between defending & attacking. maybe he has it in him, maybe not. he has the skills for it. if he can see Manny's shots coming and reply with hard counters in 2s and 3s, he has a chance.

he must feel he has it in him, as he wants either Chavez or Pacquiao, both of whom bring heavy workrate.

Barrea showed he is a master of his craft still with an excellent performance, Juarez lacked any gameplan or imagination and was comprehensively outboxed. Barrera V Pacquiao II please.

Can't be arsed to write loads but the undercard was great, this show proves that if the best fight the best it makes for quality matchups! It's not rocket science. I thought Barrios did a lot of good bodywork he wasn't getting credit for off the SKY commentators but Guzman had too much ability and made his man look slow and confused. Could not see how the one judge had Barrios ahead, Guzman's quality got him a solid win IMO Second time i have seen Guzman and he is world class beyond doubt.

Gonzalez V Vazquez was a good fight, Vazquez used all his experience to weather the storm and break Gonzalez's heart. Gonzalez reminded me of a hybrid of Margarito and Larios in style but boy could he fight, Vazquez must be knocking around P4P top 15.

Paez Jnr was too open but could be an exciting hit and be hit type of operator but his longevity won't be assured if he takes so many shots and he steps up. Doubt he will be anything extra special but fun to watch.

I would be inclined to agree with all of this...why couldn't we see Barrera in with Marquez? That would be a battle of attrition all right.

Hmm, don't reckon Barerra fancies any part of Marquez. Marquez has the skills to box him and if Barerra tries to turn it into a brawl, he's tought enough to trade blows.

I'd love to see it happen, but I don't reckon Barrera would ever go for it. I think Marquez will get beat again soon enough anyway, sounds like he took a lot of shots in that last fight.

he took a lot of southpaw lefts. but the guy just went for broke, as Marquez had dropped him flat on his face. somehow the Thai made amiracle recovery.

It was a more aggressive Marquez, trying to make a statement with a new promoter. Marquez showed excellent punch variety and handspeed. IMO he never lost to John & he's going to be hard to beat at featherweight

I'm disappointed he pulled out vs Harrison, as that was an easy world title for JMM

Well MArquez is what 34 now? He isn't going to want to waste time waiting for a guy with known alchohol, drug and behavioural problems to get his shit together.

I would have liked to have seen the fight happen, but if I were Marquez I would want sure things not possible time wasters.

With his style Marquez cannot have very long left, he's had a long career and been involved in a few brutal fighs as well.

Anyone know exactly what is going on with the WBO Featherweight title, people are assuming Marquez is suddenly out of the picture, but will he keep defending this interim belt?

No sign of another opponent for Harrison, so I can still see Marquez being in the mix for some version of the WBO (whether interim, or stripping Harrison).

Without meaning to be pedantic, he only had 3 l/w fights, and IMHO Corley, Brussell sprouts, and a shopworn Gatti are not much to get excited about.

Marquez can be pretty eonomical and slow fights down. I always felt he was tailored to a pretty long career. But having been shafted in Indonesia, he must have thought 'bollocks to it' given that Harrison seems more messed up than ever and -yes - will probably pull out anyway.

that's true. I'm just pointing out that Mayweather could be a boring sod especially at l/w & some of the super feather fights where his hands were giving him pains.
