Rating Fighters from Different Eras

Post by Ambling Alp II »

Sometimes you hear people say that it's hard (or even impossible) to compare fighters from different eras. fortunatley, there are ways to do. here is a fairly simple way to rate heavwieght champions.

You can always compare a guy to the guy right before or after. If it's close, he should be just a little ahead or behind. So just do it one at a time.

For example, start with Corbett and Fitzsimmons and rank them. Then the next guy and so on. He is how I would rate Corbett to joe Louis.

1. Fitzsimmons
2. Corbett.

Then add Jeffries and so on;
1. Jeffries
2. Fitzsimmons
3. Corbett

1. Jeffries
2. Fitzsimmions
3. Corbett
4. Hart

1. Jeffries
2. Fitzsimmons
3. Corbett
4. Burns
5. Hart

1. Johnson
2. Jeffries
3. Fitzsimmons
4. Corbett
5. Burns
6. Hart

1. Johnson
2. Jeffries
3. Fitzsimmons
4. Corbett
5. Willard
6. Burns
7. Hart

1. Johnson
2. Dempsey
3. Jeffries
4. Fitzsimmons
5. Corbett
6. Willard
7. Burns
8. Hart

1. Johnson
2. Dempsey
3. Jeffries
4. Tunney

5. Fitzsimmons
6. Corbett

7 Willard
8. Burns
9. Hart

1. Johnson
2. Dempsey
3. Jeffries
4. Tunney

5. Schmeling
6. Fitzsimmons
7. Corbett

8. Willard
9. Burns
10. Hart

1. Johnson
2. Dempsey
3. Jeffries
4. Tunney

5. Schmeling
6. Sharkey
7. Fitzsimmons
8. Corbett

9. Willard
10. Burns
11. Hart

1. Johnson
2. Dempsey
3. Jeffries
4. Tunney

5. Schmeling
6. Sharkey
7. Fitzsimmons
8. Corbett

9. Willard
10. Carnera
11. Burns
12. Hart

1. Johnson
2. Dempsey
3. Jeffries
4. Tunney

5. Schmeling
6. Baer
7. Sharkey
8. Fitzsimmons
9. Corbett

10. Willard
11. Carnera
12. Burns
13. Hart

1. Johnson
2. Dempsey
3. Jeffries
4. Tunney

5. Schmeling
6. Baer
7. Sharkey
8. Fitzsimmons
9. Corbett

10. Willard
11. Carnera
12. Burns
13. Braddock
14. Hart

1. Louis
2. Johnson
3. Dempsey
4. Jeffries
5. Tunney

6. Schmeling
7. Baer
8. Sharkey
9. Fitzsimmons
10. Corbett

11. Willard
12. Carnera
13. Burns
14. Braddock
15. Hart

I put spaces in between places where there is a gap between two guys. Of course, there are a lot of close calls, and nobody will have this exactly the same way.
The next guy, (Charles)should be below Louis but ahead of most of the other guys and so on.

Anyway, if anyone has suggestions, questions or comments, lets hear them.

You stopped so early on Louis? You should have reached Vitali.
