Nick Ball will defend his featherweight title against TJ Doheny on March 15

The all-action Nick Ball will defend his WBA featherweight title against Ireland’s TJ Doheny at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool on March 15, it was announced today.

The 27-year-old Ball, who hails from Liverpool, is unbeaten in 22 pro fights and the only blemish on his record to date is a draw against Rey Vargas in March. Since then, he has beaten Ray Ford, which delivered him his current belt, and also Ronny Rios, whom he stopped in 10 rounds.

For Doheny, meanwhile, this title shot against Ball represents a move up in weight. Last time out, when down at super bantamweight, he was stopped inside seven rounds by Naoya Inoue. Now 38, Doheny, 26-5 (20), likely knows this his final shot at world title glory.

Given their respective styles, the featherweight clash
between Ball and Doheny could be an exciting one.

After that run of very hard fights, he deserves these last couple of easier ones. Also helps to build him as a home attraction in Liverpool.

I would imagine he is behind linned up for more big fighters after this including probably Inoue, now he's signed up for Riyadh season.

Baffling !

No objection to Ball having a home-banker, but they could have chosen a much more suitable opponent

Yh he’s moving up ain’t he.

Like you said though. He’s coming off a loss and moving to a new weight class and has a title shot.

It only makes sense when the orgs want it to.

I admired Doheny hanging tough with Inoue until the sickeners did for him.
Can't see Ball taking TJ lightly but if he does he'll regret it.

Looking forward to this. Some decent fights on the card.

I've been showing Jack Turners Boxrec photo to all the Mexican lads at work & telling them he's going to be stopping everyone at Bantamweight in a year or two - which they don't believe as he' looks like a Hobbit child in that picture :OhYes:

Whilst I can't get that excited about the main event, there's some interesting other matches near the top end of the bill.

Slightly concerned that Cain-Edwards might not happen, only because I've not seen/heard much from Edwards during the build-up and you normally can't shut that gobshite up.

Turner-Farrag is a great little fight, and Baluta is normally a hard night for anyone.
