Hardly any coverage of the build up, and nobody really talking about it .. even here it's minimal.
Do you know anyone who follows boxing? I'm being serious. Almost everyone I know is on about it. It's constantly on Sky!
Not as many as a few years ago, but I think that's basically more down to boxing as a sport really.

Just a year ago I'd have friends WhatsApp to discuss .. or send clips of Usyk/Fury latest news, but absolutely nothing this time.

I think it definitely provides some absorption.
You think? It's only hair, I can't see it making any difference in terms of absorbing a punch. Maybe if it's really bushy it can make it harder to see where the face is but I thought it was more to do with they didn't want a beard covering up damage to the face.

No way should it be allowed to be that long ,
Will the judges be able to see a punch landing correctly?

With just one day to go before Tyson Fury's world heavyweight championship clash with Oleksandr Usyk, the rival camps are locked in a dispute over a replacement official.

Fernando Barbosa had been due to be one of the three judges on fight night but he was unable to travel to Riyadh due to illness.

Two officials have been flown in to replace him but the two respective fight teams are split on which judge should be used on fight night, with promoter allegedly suggesting a coin toss should settle the issue.

It is a dispute that the commission will have to find a way to resolve.
Hearn was suggesting the other day that there would be some controversy this time around ....
I get the vibe that the promoters and turki really really want Fury to win so there is definately a third fight .. wouldnt surprise me if the replacement judge gives fury a wide winning score .

I remember Joel Casamayor fighting and the opponents team were against his beard being used a weapon on cuts as it was very stubbly. I dunno if I fckin dreamt that or it really happened now…

I’ve boxed with a long full beard and clean shaven and it does absolutely fornicate all in terms of cushioning, I can PROMISE you that

In terms of obscuring the target, being scratchy in the clinch, harder to judge punches landing etc. then I still think the difference is minimal. It’s not like you’re looking at the man across the ring with a big beard and thinking “I wonder where the hell this lad’s chin is???”

But the rules are the rules.

I’ve got money on Fury by robbery, for what it’s worth. The first fight was closer than people seem to remember.

Yep - but for the last few years hardly watch any TV; bit old fashioned that since Netflix etc and the ability to watch specific things and avoid adverts etc

Even the build up coverage on BBC has been minimal.

Won't go to judges; Fury is done. Usyk to assert himself early and walk through him. UD12.

Didn't Cooney have a beard in the lead up to the Holmes fight? I'm old, so I could be making that up.

There's a lot in the media about using his size, but from memory, there wasn't a lot of clinching in the first fight, so I'm not sure what benefit it will be. The bigger he is, the more weight he has to carry around and the slower he'll be. To make it work, he's going to have to lean on, push him back and/or push down on the back of Usyk's neck, Klitschko style.

But hey, I used to be the forum's #2 Tyson Fury fan, but then the cheating bastard was proven to be a PED cheat and now, I hope he gets his face smashed in. :TU:
