Did you notice whenever he tried to clinch and lean on Usyk. Usyk either fought out of it or tried to or the ref was quick to break it up.Cas wrote: ↑22 Dec 2024, 17:17 Tyson Fury looked gun shy this fight if you ask me. His best success was in the first fight, landed some heavy shots.. I can't say the same for this fight. Fury looked timid in there compared to the first.
I was expecting an aggressive approach and to play dirty, didn't see any of it. All a bit odd if you ask me considering how heavy he was and was holding out for a points win. Maybe the first fight knocked his confidence or he was afraid of completely gassing knowing Usyk will come on late.

Agreed. For what it is worth, I think Holyfield would find Uysk a different, more difficult proposition. Probably would still favour him but not a guarantee. As they say, styles make fights, and Uysk has mastered his craft. Uysk would be tough for many of the past greats. I wouldn't necessarily take him over all the past HW greats, but definitely over some, a bit like Wlad, albeit a different type of fighter.hhaehre wrote: ↑22 Dec 2024, 18:07It's an interesting fantasy match up. I think Holyfield could win, but it wouldn't be easy for him. Almost none of his fights at heavyweight were easy. I think he could get inside on Fury, but he would pay a higher price than Usyk. I've come to think Usyk is one of the hardest guys to fight. Always moving, always throwing something from different angles, difficult to hit and a pretty awkward style. Doesn't slow down either and never allows his opponents to rest.NazNaci1 wrote: ↑22 Dec 2024, 17:24True, but both of them could bang much harder than Fury and if Uysk could work his way inside, you can bet Holyfield would and, he could rattle off some serious 4,5 or 6 punch combos. Fury hasn't faced anything like that. Uysk does, at least, throw 2-3 punch combos, but not with the same speed and venom of, say, a peak Holyfield.hhaehre wrote: ↑22 Dec 2024, 06:24
Yeah, I don't know though. As much as I liked Holyfield he alway took a lot of punches and Fury is a pretty accurate puncher against most guys not named Usyk. Holy was always exiting to watch, but let's not forget that he went life and death against a guy like Bert Cooper and that old man Foreman had no problems hitting him.
He also took on and beat the much bigger, skilful and more powerful Bowe and gave Lewis all he could handle in 2 fights.
Fury doesn't really match up in those terms.

Re: Round-by-Round: Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury II | PPV - 21 December 2024
This was probably the least marked up he’s been as a heavyweight and he seems to be getting conditioned more to taking shots. Remember the complaining vs Dubois, then against Fury 1 he was hurt, but didn’t complain….now, I cannot remembering being hurt or complaining.keithmoonhangover wrote: ↑22 Dec 2024, 18:02I agree, I thought he looked in cruise control for large parts of the fight last night. It looked like Fury's shots, particularly to the body weren't having the same effect as the first encounter. Obviously that's just my opinion. Fury's conditioning also came back to bite him and he just couldn't sustain attacks.
So yes in many ways this was an easier fight…. Even though I was having doubts between 2 and 5. I will but my house on usyk if there is ever a 3rd fight with Fury, don’t know how fury can ever beat him. He doesn’t seem able to hurt him and he cannot do it for 36 mins

Eddie's full of sh!t, he always wheels out that daft "fort it woz a draw, koogs" line. Always has done. Usyk won, he knows it. Been backing the Brit all week cause Frank is Turkey's playboy and Eddie wants to keep in the good books. Look at last night, he was as useful as tea boy Frank Smith. Barely any involvement in the promotion.keithmoonhangover wrote: ↑22 Dec 2024, 12:58 In fairness, Eddie thought it was a draw. Fwank thought it was a first round stoppage win for Fury.

I watched it tonight for the second time, I think the scores were fair, Usyk caught so many of the punches on the gloves

It may be the last heavyweight fight of that caliber for another decade or more.
I noticed Fury's head bobbing back in the clinches, Uysk was so sublime firing an uppercut as Fury tried to wrap him up and lean on him. Uysk had an answer to that.
I also noticed, like you, that Uysk took way more shots on his gloves than I saw the first viewing. What a fight to end the year!
Re: Round-by-Round: Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury II | PPV - 21 December 2024
Then why come in so heavy if that wasn't his approach when you know Usyk is going to turn it on late in the fight. Makes no sense. Fury was starting to blow and feel the pace in 8-12. All that extra weight for what? Didn't even try to rough him up and make this ugly.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑22 Dec 2024, 18:30ah yes, the fury just needs to lean on him approach. as if usyk was going to passively let it happenRuthless-RKO wrote: ↑22 Dec 2024, 18:15Did you notice whenever he tried to clinch and lean on Usyk. Fury thought he would win a chess match against an elite boxer like Usyk? Makes no sense what so ever.

I'd favour Holyfied over Usyk at Cruiserweight but not at heavy.NazNaci1 wrote: ↑22 Dec 2024, 18:21Agreed. If we comparing Holyfield Vs Usyk.
I'd favour a correctly juiced up Holyfield to get a decision over Usyk at heavyweight. Holyfield was so relentless, strong and highly skilled .. avoiding a PED heart scare again, it fuels him to be that bit more busy over Usyk.
Holyfield would have stopped Fury, AJ, and Dubois easy enough.

Ah, the past seen through rose tinted glasses. As much as I loved to watch Holyfield I'd pick Usyk any day of the week and twice on Sundays. Holyfield was a beautiful dynamic puncher, but he just took way too many shots. Did he ever have an easy fight? And Usyk the southpaw? I remember how much Holyfield struggled with Moorer, even in the fight he won he ate that southpaw jab consistently. I like Holyfield against AJ and Dubois. I think he's even money vs Fury and Usyk beats him every time.tonyevs wrote: ↑23 Dec 2024, 03:11 If we comparing Holyfield Vs Usyk.

Re: Round-by-Round: Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury II | PPV - 21 December 2024
I actually think it makes a lot of sense. Remember, Fury has always been the superior boxer in all his previous fights before Usyk. In his mind he lost the first fight because he got clocked by a single shot and lost a 10-8 round. Fury is a boxer, not a slugger and you can't change who you are as a boxer when you're in your late 30's.
I agree that probably his only chance against Usyk is to go all out and be aggressive, but that's easier said than done and it's not who Fury is as a boxer. Sure he slugged it out with Wilder, but that's a guy you can hardly miss. Go all out vs Usyk probably gets you knocked out and he didn't want to take that risk. I think he thought he could get the win by tightening up his defence and countering, like he normally does.

All these comments saying "great fight" .
Didn't see that myself, nice and technical, not a patch on the first .
So much for Fury taking it to him and getting the KO .

You know , one thing about Fury he knows the game inside out , BUT he does what every good boxer does he listens , to the guy he employs to train him , What i really can't understand is the tactics this guy who i would assume is Sugar came up with , theres a few things that you have to think about with Usyk ,
One its always going to be hard to outbox such a good technical boxer especielly one with the footwork , and speed of Usyk , his speed head movement , ring craft , all make it difficult , if there has been any weakness shown over time buy Usyk , its that he's not comfortable when he's defending and especielly around the body , I personaly hav'nt been too bothered watching any buildup to the fight so really all along thought Usyk will probably do it easier than the first one , BUT when he came in so heavy , i naturaly assumed , he was going to go all out , push forward , throw , hold , lean wrestle , cover up , maul and brawl , , i sort of figured it would be an ugly horrible , lawrence ottokie style fight , but Tyson would be in with a chance , , regardless off how we all like to think boxing and tactics ect ect , the facts are , at the end of the day its just a FIIGHT .
You want to win said fight , its simple , you hit your opponent more than he hits you , basic really , and if your opponent is busy defending , and your throwing , you will score he will not , if he's then getting held hustled , bustled and wrestled , and the bigger man in the clinch is trying to manouvre and pop shoulders ect , its ugly but winnable ,
So when he came in heavy i actually thought , its gonna be ugly , but its winnable ,
But what did he do , he tried to outbox a better boxer , making the excesss weight a burden , WHY at a lighter weight he would of ben faster , more stamina and STILL bigger ,
Considering Tyson is the ultimate profesional , who WILL listen to his corner , i start to think , would he do better with different tactics and a different trainer . WHO knows

And why does everybody talk about Holyfield and not other past HW greats? Of course he ended Tyson's rule, but he lost his series against Bowe and Lewis and drew with Ruiz, and those were his top opponents in his prime.hhaehre wrote: ↑23 Dec 2024, 03:26Ah, the past seen through rose tinted glasses.
