Even Fishers dad was telling Allen he won coming out the ring.

So how can it be that 2 judges are more invested in the A-side fighter than his own father is?

Is it really just down to the culture of staying sweet on the promoters payroll?
They don't even need to be paid off, they just want to get invited back for the next one

Saw the video in question last night. GAD always seems to be stuffing his face when being interviewed which is rather strange. Anyway, Big John came across quite badly I thought. Very emotional and didn't engage. He should be happy as his son should have a loss on his record.

what did everyone make of the fight? I had Allen by two rounds. It was very watchable and Allen seems a lot more consistent which is great to see. His advice to Johnny after the fight was very sincere. It sounds like they'll rematch, if I was Johnny I'd have a couple more before but money talks. They were both so good in interviews since too.

Dave's channel is good too (I know I am bit of a fanboy). I like Johnny too such a decent fella.

5-5 with Allen winning because of the knockdown. Allen overachieved but I believe he could have done even better and got Johnny out of there. I actually think his performance could have been a lot better. Johnny was there for the taking. Everyone knows the decision was rubbish and Allen fully deserved it.

I thought the same at the time, but Allen said on his youtube channel afterwards that he was too knackered to step it up any more.

Then that's one good reason a boxer should train to his potential. Allen wasn't given 2 weeks notice, he had a bloody good camp so he should have used that time correctly. Allen isn't the biggest heavyweight but he had Fishers number, which most likely won't have again.

i dunno, he just had to hurt johnny once to shut him down for 5 rounds. allen being able to hang in there with his rock chin will give him plenty of chances to hurt fisher again. fisher was looking better vs guys he could bomb out, but vs someone who hung in there he suddenly looked a shaky novice who wasnt sure what to do with himself

fish didnt react well to the punchees and i wonder how he responds in future fights. some fighters get permanently spooked after getting clocked the first time. fisher's only stand out attribute so far is prob his power, so i dont think he can afford to become gun shy

thanks mate, I do think Fisher showed heart and chin in there as he was knackered though, he could have wilted and taken a Duboisesque knee (not that has worked our poorly for him)

I think you have hit the nail on the head in terms or rematch danger and I say that as an Allen fan, unless he trains throughout and comes back even more consistent which I sincerely hope he does

true fish hung in there but he went about 5 rounds in a miserable state. the kd completely shut him down for nearly the whole 2nd half

like the opposite of a froch or juan marquez type who would storm back and show more fire after being hurt. inoue vs nery showed that special quality too

Fair points mate, must have felt pretty new though to be in that firefight, I think they all deduced it was a Dave cashout, but he hung in there and will heave learned

Erik Morales in his prime was a classic example of this. Hit him with a clean punch and you know hes going to be coming with at you with a fierce combination, whether he has to walk through punches to do it or not. It helped that he was virtually un-KOable in his prime. Every punch seemed to bounce off him. The only time I remember seeing him visibly hurt in his prime was against that In Jin Chi bloke who came over and fought Brodie in the UK. He landed a corker of a right hand which had Morales standing still for a moment. Even in the first Pacquiao fight he wasn't hurt. He actually turned southpaw in the 12th and went to war with Pac, taking tremendous punishment to dish out his own, despite being well up on the cards. That punishment signaled the end of his prime but it was a great performance to beat Pacquiao like that.

Finally got around to watching Allen v Fisher...much better fight than I was expecting :box:

I had it to Allen by 1 point but I wouldn't argue if anyone had it wider. I can understand why Allen felt hard done by. He proper 'boshed' Fisher in the 5th round.

Fisher was game throughout and going 10 tough rounds could do him the world of good. He's got to draw on the positives and learn from the negatives.

At the right level Dave has proved he's still a demanding night's work.

if he beats Fisher in a rematch is it normal for Matchroom to then have some rights/contractual control over him?

Yes it is normal.

Unless they think he has no chance of winning!!!

I imagine there will be options in the contract.

Allen will be usable for them if only as an opponent

thanks Coco, appreciate the explanation. I don't know why but I thought he'd sign with Queensbury like they took Cameron after the 'draw' with Whittaker, and they have so many HWs. There has been no mention of it though. I thought they would wheel him out for Clarke again, or maybe Itauma, Adeleye or even Wardley as a stay busy.

Allen did well, well enough to attract suitors.

Someone like FW would be interested, to throw a spanner in the Fisher train, but if he did that the rematch would be more complex as FW wouldn't be giving away options.

FW could def use Allen as an opponent amongst his growing stable of heavies.
I'm sure Allen will take the best financial option

Cheers Coco I hope so, I’m definitely biased but have always liked Dave. Not that I know him but you know what I mean. He seems to genuinely care about the fighters he trains or manages too which is a good trait. He recently said he will understand if they get to a certain level and have to leave as he doesn’t have the expertise in negotiating the finances.
