Post by Jimmy2025 »

My preference for Usyk next would be Jai Opetaia. Turki's preference seems to be Dubois 2.

Who would the man himself choose and who would you like?

Tbh I would probably retire, depends how he feels.

He has earned more money than he will ever need.

Other potential fights on the horizon are relatively small fry, beating DDD again, yes he will pick up 20m each time, but he must have already cleared 100m.

At 38 it must be tough to get through training camps, he doesn't seem to have any damage yet, get out when you are undisputed and no claims to your title and legacy cemented

I’d like to see the Opetaia fight but he has work to do at Cruiserweight first. Give Usyk the Dubois/Parker winner for Undisputed - hopefully Parker for a fresh match up. Would like to see him fight Bakole/Kabayel and hopefully even Itauma if he’s still champ when Moses earns his shot..

I would think it was great if he retired but can't see it.

I want him to retire. I think he’s already declined a bit. I thought he was at his sharpest in the first Joshua fight.

Whether it’s a Dubois rematch or someone like Kabayel or Bakole he’s going to get beat soon by carrying on. He’s 38 fighting bigger, younger opponents. I’d love him to get out now & go down as the greatest heavyweight & cruiserweight of his era.

Usyk IMHO should retire whilst at the very top after so much success .

as others have said its a matter of time before a mistake or a much younger faster guy catches him out and spoils the party .

If he doesnt want to which is often the case then we can enjoy it for a another year or two maybe .

I'd prefer him to retire, but wouldn't begrudge one final huge payday against DDD, a relatively easy fight to cash out on. Dubois is the perfect match for Usyk.

opetaia or retire for me

dubois 2? why, just why to anyone who prefers that. you have very limited time for usyk if he keeps fighting, and you want him to go over old ground vs someone we already saw him stop in a lopsided fight? rather than someone new?

I'd love to see him fight Bakole or Zhang just because they both seem to be big, awkward, powerful guys that I think would be interesting challenges.

If Parker is able to unseat Dubois I'd have no issue with him fighting Parker. I don't see much good reason for him to fight Dubois again to be honest.

Even though us hardcore fans seem to have a fascination with Opetaia as a potential opponent for him, I'd think that there are about 10 guys on Usyk's personal list that take precedence over that fella. For the mere fact that he'd make more money fighting several other guys than he would to fight Opetaia.

Its a perfect time for Usyk to retire now. He may see the Dubois fight as an easy pay day, but I`d prefer he avoids Dubois because its almost certain Dubois will be throwing even more low blows next time because there are still idiots out there who felt he should have won the last fight .. despite Dubois quitting from a jab.

If he stays too long he risks losing his legacy and standing in the heavyweight ATG lists like Wilder, Fury and Aj have.

a young, powerful fighter. Dubois 2 would suffice, and they can settle things after the controversy of the first fight. Additionally, providing Dubois passes his next test, the Londoner is an improved fighter.

But, on the other hand, I guess people would want to see him continue to defend, and not just against British fighters (granted, there are many top British heavyweights currently, more than ever in fact).

I don't like the idea of continuing the amateur rivalry with Beterbiev, in some kind of catchweight.

usyk beat dubs handily. lost maybe a round, put him down multiple times, and finished him with daniel taking a full count. with such limited time presumably for usyk, it's lame to have his time spent in yet another rematch. who cares if dubs has a belt that usyk threw in the trash.

id say retire but if he's fighting on, let's have something new. parker if he beats dubois, zhang-kabayel winner, opetai, erc

No point retiring when there is a) huge Saudi money and b) no one on your level in the division.

Dubois is an easy public sell when you get Eddie and Fwank to spread the fake narrative that Dubois had him out of there with a body shot deemed illegal.

Meanwhile if Parker wins you finally get to see Usyk against a smaller more evenly (ish) matched profile of heavy. Kabayel too if he doesn't get caught by Big Bang (reckon he does unfortunately).

Unfortunately, Usyk isn't motivated by money

Extra 30m can't be bad though for a guy who is always in shape and feels he can comfortably win.

dubois rematch please no, i just dont get it. people can have any fight for usyk and instead of a fresh fight we havent seen go with yet another rematch, vs a guy he already lopsidedly stopped only a year ago? you want usyks little time left to be going over old ground?

just why? some people are calling for that one and im genuinely curious and not taking the piss. for me it's one rematch too many there, a win does absolutely nothing to boost usyk's resume, whereas a new opponent at least gives us a new match up and gives his record some more depth

Hello mate, I don't think you're taking the piss at all but would not mind if you were buddy, it's only a forum and I enjoy your posts. My thoughts are he has one of the belts, stopped AJ which Usyk didn't, was not too shabby against Usyk first time round, has had some good wins since their first fight.

Dubois having one of the belts is a joke though. Usyk was Undisputed Champion, and they stripped him of the IBF to have 2 guys that he's already beaten fight over it. So to me, and I'm sure to most Boxing fans, Dubois has no legitimate claim whatsoever to being Champion of anything.

Usyk has already beaten Dubois. Bakole and Zhang to me are the most interesting potential Heavyweight opponents, and by the time he could get around to fighting those 2 someone else may have made a splash in the division or Dubois may have racked up another big win making a rematch between he and Usyk more interesting.

If Usyk beats Dubois again, and they call him a 3 time Undisputed Champion that's just kinda nonsense as well because he never really lost the title.

I don't need Usyk to beat everybody he ever fought twice. Once will do just fine. I'd like to see him against different styles, and different opponents while I'm able.

I understand the belt situation being farcical. I just mean if he was fighting someone I'd be happy to watch it mate.

No doubt Dubois is as credible opponent as any, but there's quite a slew of interesting guys to face in the Top 10 right now.

Andy Ruiz could still potentially be interesting if he got another noteworthy win.

Opetaia actually fights quite similarly to Usyk so that would be an interesting bout from a tactical standpoint.

Dubois I'm sure has improved since the first Usyk bout, and time is on his side as far as he's still improving, and Usyk is probably as good as he'll ever be already. So I would imagine a 2nd fight between them would be closer than the 1st was. Wouldn't boost Usyk much to win it though. Even with the IBF belt involved, I think it'd be worth more from a legacy standpoint for him to just beat other opponents instead.

If Dubois somehow manages to keep the IBF belt and make 3 or 4 title defenses of it, maybe then he's worthy of a rematch with Usyk.

thanks mate, I'll admit I have forgotten about Ruiz. I'd happily watch Opetaia vs Usyk at CW or HW, that would be a great fight. And x2 re what is in it for Usyk vs Dubois.
