Kell Brook's record is pathetic
Just looking at his record.
40 wins. Only one of them against a genuine world level fighter in Shawn Porter.
The rest is a carousel of bums and D-Level no hopers like Donut Dan and Frankie Gavin. One good win in 40 fights is pretty poor going.

Re: Kell Brook's record is pathetic
Yh was pretty poor record.
He stayed at British/Euro/Fringe level too long.
Even the Porter win, some have an asterisk against it.
Then he won the belt and then had some fights postponed and career held up cus he got stabbed.
He was supposed to have a unification with Jessie Vargas, and his purse was sorted, but then pound to dollar messed up cuz of Brexit and they wouldn’t pay the difference, then he got offered the GGG fight and we know how it went from there.

'pathetic' is just trolling
Likely from Khan fans, who were hating on him his whole career cause their boy ducked him like the plague. But finally at the end we all saw who was always the better fighter

Re: Kell Brook's record is pathetic
Brook underachieved massively imo but it's mainly his own fault so I wouldn't give him much sympathy, look at Ricky Burns, doubt he had a win as good as Porter but still 3 titles in 3 divisions, mainly because he trained like a demon and didn't fanny about making silly demands, a consummate professional
Re: Kell Brook's record is pathetic
Damn well, great win
Re: Kell Brook's record is pathetic
I genuinely think he underachieved.
You could argue about the injury/stabbing holding him back, but he had talent to burn

Re: Kell Brook's record is pathetic
Brook kept a very healthy distance from world class fighters, but got crushed when he did step up against Crawford & Spence.
Porter is a good result, in America too, but a shit fight and an inglorious occasion....also, a result which could have gone the other way.
Must have earned well, but a career that will be quickly forgotten.

Underachieved. Could have been one of the very best we have produced. The IBF belt was a hindrance, he didn't sell well enough to fill the arena without the right opponent. The stabbing, not living life, focusing on Khan, blowing up between fights... GGG was a complete cash out and Crawford a money fight, too.

Re: Kell Brook's record is pathetic
not a pathetic career at all, but defo underachieved for his talent. instead of 1 a level and 3 a+ level opponents it shoulda been more like 5 a level opponents and 2 a+ level (take out ggg, crazy match up)
his sense of distance/timing was excellent. it always struck me watching his fights how he could make guys basically fall right into his punches while falling short with their own. had power to go with it too

Crawford fight was a joke. He didn’t have Dom for that and instead had his own friends in the corner paying them pennies. $2m his purse I think.mickey1975 wrote: ↑28 Dec 2024, 14:13 stabbing, not living life, focusing on Khan, blowing up between fights... I remember Arum saying afterwards, ‘take your $2m and do one back to England’

Khan win was a good indicator of how good he could have been.

Re: Kell Brook's record is pathetic
Brook was an excellent fighter. Very talented with some decent wins. But Boxing politics, lifestyle choices, the horrendous decision to move up to middleweight to fight Golovkin, chasing the ducker Khan for too long, the IBF forcing crappy mandatories, PBC's strangelhold on the welterweight division, Hearn not delivering the unification fights, and not moving up to Light Middleweight when it was time to.. were his hindrances. Still he had a good career overall.
The way he won the British title outright in just over a year was fantastic.
He really couldn't help that Khan was terrified to get in the ring with him for many years. But he was chasing it for far too long
PBC owned the welterweight division at the time he was the champion, Al Haymon really didn't want to let Brook in, it was the only division USA dominated at that time, they were happy overpaying their welterweight fighters for easy fights and keeping everything in house, they didn't want to risk losing to Brook. Eddie Hearn usually does a great job for his fighters, but he couldn't seem to deliver the big fights for Brook.
Fighting a prime, beastly Golovkin up at middleweight is one of the most stupid decisions I've seen in boxing. The beating and the injuries especially the fractured eye socket took Kell out of his own prime. I honestly think Kell Brook would have beaten Errol Spence had he not had took the GGG fight.

Re: Kell Brook's record is pathetic
Good record and career. 7 world title fights, 18 title fights, won the British and a World title, lost to very elite fighters. Good win to win his world title which aged well. Went out on a very redemptive win, made loads of dosh, could probably have achieved more but he's the one getting punched in the head for a living.
Only thing pathetic is someone taking the time to call a world champion's record pathetic. I can safely state his life and career is a lot better than the poster. Good luck with the virginity.

Re: Kell Brook's record is pathetic
I struggle to find a British fighter who under achieved for various reason than Kell Brook given his ability. What a fighter he was. Besides the problems he created for himself out side the ring his problem was he never had a promoter who truly backed him.
Warren had bigger more established fighters and there was an issue with Ingle/Hamed vs Warren which Brook paid the price for.
Hearn agreed a unification fight vs Vargas then withdrew offer when the GGG v Eubank fight fell through and offered Brook the GGG fight or no fight. Worst match making in history. Heard really screwed Brook and he was never the same after that fight. But Hearn lined his pockets and that's what matters to swiss tony.

Re: Kell Brook's record is pathetic
There’s absolutely no way that you can get to a Porter victory against Brook. It’s - 117-111, 116-112 type fight.
The only reason there’s any doubt is because of Jim Watt’s scoring. He had this pre-conceived idea that Brook was losing rounds because Porter was coming forwards more (even though he was being nullified & outlanded).
It’s only Brits that ever think Porter could have got that decision.
American TV had Brook a comfortable winner. Porter himself even admits he lost the fight.

Re: Kell Brook's record is pathetic
Brook was top quality and to call his record 'pathetic' is pretty laughable tbh. But would certainly agree his career was one of the most frustrating in recent memory, it just seemed to be one obstacle after another.
Re: Kell Brook's record is pathetic
Definitely underachieved. Part of it was his own doing through not living the correct way early in his career. Part of it was promoters not getting him the right opportunities due to the PBC & Top Rank stranglehold on the division.
He gets mocked for the Bizier & Dan fights but they were well down the IBF rankings. Many top fighters turned down the shot before it got to them two.
I can’t remember them all but I know Bradley, Alexander & Khan were three that didn’t want the Brook fight. Now I’m not saying they were outright ducking as they went different routes which I’m sure they were advised to by their promoters but either way they decided against fighting Brook.
The big regret for me is that Hearn didn’t stump up the cash for the Vargas fight. It would have lost money but it was the fight that would have led to him having two of the four belts & been regarded as the man at the weight.
Regardless, he still had a load of good wins at British & European level, still won a world title, still has one of the best wins by a Brit abroad & still had 4 huge pay days from the Golovkin, Spence, Crawford & Khan fights so it wasn’t all bad.
