How long can his last ? His weight is becoming a massive problem, could it bring a premature end to his career ?

Of that list my guess would be castillo and witter (providing he holds onto his title).

Hatton wont go up to 147 again, not after the collazo outing, so that'll pretty much rule out the rest of the fighters you mentioned as Cotto will be a 147lber soon and the rest are. Only other names that could be mentioned are Fretias and Corrales I suppose.

HBO will probably refuse to show Hatton V Witter so Hatton probably won't fight the hitter.

Maybe, but apart from Castillo where are the high profile fights at LWW. Witter may never be a big draw but if he keeps winning there may well be nowhere else for Hatton to go. I think it could be sold big time in the U.K., with some interest in the U.S., simply because Hatton is fighting.

Of course Hatton will have big fights, he's looking to make a massive retirement fund for himself, and the only way to do that is to take on marquee names.

A fight with Castillo is a good start, and definetly a winnable fight for Hatton, who will probably have a significant advantage in physical strength over Castillo.

That's a fairly accurate and comprehensive shortlist there James, in terms of BIG fights that is.

Well, certainly it's the only one likely right now.

The other fight is obviously against Mayweather at Welter. Hatton wouldn't be facing a naturally bigger man. I know that Hatton outweighed Collazo on fightnight, but he was carrying a lot of muscle bulk into the ring, which doesn't translate into punching power.

Aso worth noting that up until around 4 weeks before the fight he was looking to fight a 140lber then Collazo came along so they had 4 weeks to get him on course for 147lbs. I doubt its as easy as not knocking off the last half a stone.

Yes, this is true, it's very rare you hear of a fighter who is an established champ at one weight jumping up to another weight at such short notice. I cannot think of many whove done it.

Despite the fact that Hatton baloons between fights, there's never been much talk of him struggling to make weight, in fact, I don't recall him having to have more than one attempt to make 140 at all, can anyone else?

at 140 there's loads of good fighters - quality ppl who aren't names. If he's staying at 140 Ricky will have to fight some of the ppl who aren't superstars or future hall of famers.

What can Hatton do if he doesn't face M'baye, Witter, Ben Rabah, & Vivian Harris? If he doesn't fight Rabah next year he loses his title. I mean, if he loses to a PBF or Margarito at welter, he'll have nothing to fall back on back down at 140, where he feels stronger and better. Then he'll have his tail between his legs trying to get a fight with a quality, difficult, but not well known title holder.

In short, if anything goes wrong for Hatton - and with the calibre of fighters around 140 it could well do - a title WILL mean something to him.

Hatton-Castillo is difficult to call. Castillo's shots will rip Ricky to pieces. But on paper Hatton is way to fast & busy for him. Castillo looked slow as fuvck in his last fight, at 142, I could see Hatton earning a decent lead, only to get cut down.

I think Castillo is the perfect big fight for Hatton to look good in and win. Hattons faster and busyer and should work out a decision, Castillos power wont be staggering at 140.

It also depends how much each fighters slid

I don't think Hatton is on the slide. He's still in his physical prime, and in fact should probably be stronger now than when he fought Tszyu. I think that Collazo's style and size coupled with a poor training camp, and the sudden jump up the weights, made Hatton look poor. The Maussa fight also took place during the litigation period with warren which quite possibly cast a shadow over his preparations.

For all Tszyu's fearsome reputation, he has never been much of a mover, and usually relied on his immense strength, punchpower and timing to get the job done, and always struggled with people who could back him up.

While Ricky has never failed to make weight for fights, I have read interviews with Billy Graham & Kerry Kayes. Both, especially Billy state that Hatton struggled to make 140lbs before Kerry became a part of team Hatton.

If I remember correctly, Boxing News did an interview with Kerry Kayes not so long back. Kerry says that when he first came on board, Hatton would hardly have a water-intake etc, to make weight, yet there are no calories in water!

Also, Ricky makes 140lbs, but by fight time he states he weighs 156lbs. That is a great deal of weight to put on in around, say, 30 hours! I would have thought that putting on such an amount, would be a hinderance to Ricky's performance i.e. he might feel uncomfortable etc?

Regardless of whether he struggles, does not struggle, putting on loads of weight, taking it off, etc, etc, cannot be good for the human body. I hope Ricky does not one day "go to the well & find it is bone dry".

Ricky is a grown man - he do what he wants, and only take advice from the people he feels are right. However, I feel Kerry Kayes is a crucial part of Hatton's camp. I think for diet, nutrition, strength training, Kayes is the best there is. Ricky is lucky to have him, IMO.

Whilst i wouldn't disagree with you about Kays, Mick Williamson is also a vital part of the Hatton team. I think people make far too much of Ricky cutting, Williamson does a great job when it happens and, that is probably why Hatton is allowed to continue with fights.

Hatton would get knocked out by Castillo.

ONe of those left hooks onto Hatton's gaping jawbone = Hatton turned into flatton.

Always possible, but when has Hatton ever looked like being laid out by one shot? I seriously doubt Castillo drops and stops Hatton with one punch.

Great fight; lets get it on, as they say.

How many massive shots did Hatton eat from Tszyu without even wobbling. A lot has been made about how Tszyu was shot, but there was nothing wrong with his balance and he landed those shots right on the button and they were clearly hard shots, you could see by how Ricky's neck snapped back when they landed.

Castillo might stop Hatton, but I don't think it will be from one shot, and it would be interesting to see how he handles those body shots from Hatton.
