Why did the World Boxing Association (WBA) disappear from Boxrec's data communication?

Post by vro75 »

I recently noticed that the World Boxing Association (WBA) boxing organization has disappeared from the Boxrec database without a trace! What is the reason for this? It is not listed among the registered organizations, nor among the title matches! As far as I know, the association has not been dissolved, so why did the site arbitrarily liquidate the WBA events? Thank you in advance for your urgent reply!

Good luck on an urgent reply. I have yet to hear from anyone from this site on the discussion of AIBA/World Series of Boxing events being excluded from records. I see others seem to not have their questions answered either.

world series of boxing fights arent excluded from their records, just in the amateur section of it. if i recall, back when the wsb was active there was much debate/discussion around their status

The problem is they don't list any AIBA(IBA) professional style fights. Michael Hunter lost a 10 round decision to Artem Suslenkov on April 14, 2024 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. It's not listed under any of his fights. The question is are these actually pro fights reported to the respective commissions, or are they more in the realm of exhibitions.

It is bullsh!t for any organization that bills itself as:

“ BoxRec or boxrec.com is the official record keeper of the sport of boxing.”

To leave out a major world title from its database….no matter what the beef is.

I have a suggestion. This can be apart of the subscription or for members logged in...

Would it be difficult to implement a 5 or 10 star rating system for how entertaining a bout is?

Maybe just a drop down box, that allows users to choose from 5 (All time classic) to 1 (horribly boring). Like all user input, it'll be subject to bias so hopefully there will be a weighed averaging system.

I'm not a mathematician so I can't explain how they work exactly, but there are several different averaging systems.

Like I said, paid or free... or, maybe paid get higher average influence (if that makes sense)

I subscribe to BoxRec+ and it would be great when you are looking at a boxer's record, you could select Southpaw and the system would temporarily filter out all the Orthodox fighters. That would be incredibly helpful for matchmakers.

Oscar Collazo unified WBO & WBA belts in the 105lbs division but only shows as the WBO titleholder. Just a heads up in case nobody has noticed yet. Thank you!

Unfortunately, ALL WBA titles, current and historic, are gone indefinitely

Again…..it’s just insane that this site finds it important to let me know when a fight is for the
World Boxing Council Asian Continental Belt or the world Boxing Foundation Australasian title….

But doesn’t think the “official record keeper” might want to include one of the 4 main recognized belts.

Whatever the reason it makes Boxrec look petty and childish.

Just subscribe, it's only a dollar a month, and you can see all the titles 👍🏻

Why are the dates of all past fights listed without the year? This is a very confusing way of listing the fighters' records.

Boxrec, my name is David Fields and I have been a professional boxing referee since January of 2000. I am from Newark, New Jersey not Trenton, New Jersey. Like I said I referred my first professional fight in January of the year 2000 not November of 2000. You also have me not referring not one match in 2001 or in 2002. Some matches are also missing from 2003. In those first four years I worked a lot of the shows we had. Please correct these errors especially me being from Newark, New Jersey. Thank you for your time.

This suggestion involves correcting two fighter profiles, both Tony Harrisons.
- Tony Harrison, "Super Bad", ID#574588, a super welter 2011-2023
- Tony Harrison, "The Tiger", ID#000448, a light heavy 1979-1982, 1982-1990

The picture for "Super Bad" Tony Harrison is used for both fighter profiles.

When scoring fights that ended in TKO, I'd like to be able too mark if I thought the stoppage was good or bad. Like a fight that was stopped in the 6th round, I should be able to mark as 4-1 through 5 and then for the 6th round it should ask if I saw it as a good/bad stoppage.

Some guys build up great KO% records (Edgar Berlanga, Jimmy Sains, some with more referee help than others). It would be nice to be able to go back and look which were good stoppages and which were bad.

And/or maybe easier - if I could write a note, so if I'm clicking through my own scores I could write down that I thought it was a bad stoppage.

it would be cool if on the amateur boxing rating page , it showed the * mark for a fight scheduled, not only for their amateur fights, but for pro fights - right now if an amateur has a pro bout scheduled, the * doesn't show up on the rating page.. there are many top amateurs who fight pro bouts ocassionally, or who are moving to the pros, and it would help to keep track of when that happens

¿Why is the name of country spelled wrong for Puerto Rican Boxers?

Post by 1341379 »

I've been seeing "Puerto Rico" spelled "Porto Rico" on Boxers records which is completely wrong. If it was to be translated to english it would be "Rich Port" which wouldn't even make sense. And "Porto" means port in Portuguese and Italian. You're using an Italian/Portuguese word with a Spanish word to name a Country that's not even called that way. It would be nice if You Guys fixed that.

Regarding the BoxRec Lineal titles. Would it be possible to backdate these all the back to the origin, like James J Corbett at heavyweight? It would be great to be able to click on Boxrec Lineal and see the real history of the lineal.

Yes, that was the intention, it's just a slow process.
