Tyson Fury: Physically Strong but Mentally Weak
Tyson Fury showed his mental weakness and lack of self-control once again, by being a glutton and coming in for the second fight with Usyk at about 30 pounds above his best fighting weight. His spare tire was jiggling during the fight.
If Fury had been lighter, he might have won. He wasn't as quick on his feet as he's been in the past, and wasn't able to sustain an attack without getting tired. This was especially true during the last three rounds of the fight.
His talk of being robbed after the fight is another indication of mental weakness - he's was unable to mentally deal with the reality that he lost the fight.
In past years, Fury showed physical capability, but mental weakness - his ballooning up in weight to well over 300 pounds, his drug use, his retiring and un-retiring multiple times, and his silly comments to the press without considering the consequences of his words.
Tyson Fury is not an all-time great heavyweight, but he would have been if he had a stronger mind to go along with his physical capabilities.

It will be interesting to see if he bounces back, and has a career resurgence of some sort after this or if he just hits the wall, and never comes back to prominence.
Re: Tyson Fury: Physically Strong but Mentally Weak
He's always come off as insecure to me. Using steroids, always talking about other's appearances, always belittling others, denying others as worthy to fight him despite being obviously worthy, lack of dedication in some ways over the years, lack of backbone to tell his dad to shut up. He's now shown himself as a sore loser too.
Re: Tyson Fury: Physically Strong but Mentally Weak
In fairness most fighters are sore losers. I think being a sore loser kinda comes with the territory of being a winner. You think you're the best, and you have to think it to stay motivated kinda thing.
Roberto Duran was always a sore loser too.
I'm not excusing Fury's behavior on this by the way. Just saying that it's not uncommon.

Agreed, it's just that winning mentality. It doesn't work with being a graceful loser, so to speak. Lennox would be another example of it.gilgamesh wrote: ↑25 Dec 2024, 16:51 In fairness most fighters are sore losers. I think being a sore loser kinda comes with the territory of being a winner. Re: Tyson Fury: Physically Strong but Mentally Weak
it's a winning mentality only to an extent. if you think you won and were robbed to an extent that you dont honestly acknowledge mistakes and ways to improve, it hurts. that said, fury has done better in rematches, so in his case i think he's used it in a healthy way
i also think it would hurt fury deep down if he acknowledged he legitimately lost a fight. while brash and cocky , he is also clearly quite vulnerable at times and i think that would sting him

Re: Tyson Fury: Physically Strong but Mentally Weak
I can excuse him not accepting he lost - that's what took him to the level he achieved.
It will be interesting to see where he goes next; what opportunities he gets. The obvious fight is the AJ fight .. if that doesn't get made then I really can't see Turki giving him an easy way back. Like Wilder, I think he will have to face tougher opposition than he will want.
If Fury couldnt be disciplined for the rematch against Usyk then it's a pretty safe bet that he lets his fans down even more for a Zhang, Bakole type opponent.

He's not mentally weak. He had some issues after his biggest success, but he came back. He was prepared well to the rematch after the first loss. He simply met the better guy and lost, but he can still win anybody else.

Usyk is an absolute beast. Fury did pretty well, may have done better in the first fight, but it's not like he just gave up here. I thought he won 5 rounds, with Usyk taking the later rounds for a close but clear win.
He's still No2 in the division. I think he beats AJ, Zhang, Parker.
Not sure about Dubois.
I don't think he's mentally weak at all.

You don’t climb to the top of the heavyweight world twice if you’re a mental midget.
Maybe he doesn’t have the dedication and desire to be great that some others do, but to suggest that he is mentally weak is pure nonsense.

Fury did pretty well inside the ring and outside the ring. He is a fecking rich mofo.
