Fabio Wardley - Could he? is it possible?

Post by rhino222 »

So the Fabio Wardley gravy train rumbles on, getting to the stage now that he is an underdog in fights but is still doing the business.

Obviously Fabio has proved himself to be top domestic class right now, but lets not get too carried away. For me he needs to beat a contender to bring himself up to fringe world level. If you were Fabios manager what route would you take?

For me, he needs putting in with Del Boy and i have him to stop Chisora. Or pop him in with Joe Joyce, he stops Joe too. So this would make him a genuine top tier contender. I also feel he would have a good chance against AJ now too.

But could he do it? could he do the unthinkable and go from white collar to world heavyweight champion?

wardley was fave vs clarke. so not only is it not true that he's still winning as underdog, he's actually failed to win as fave

that said, he can certainly bang. he's a dangerous fight for most, but i think short of the top guys, as reflected in drawing with clarke not long ago. that said couldnt rule out a puncher chance to chin dubois. fun fighter who there are plenty of good match ups out there for in the 2nd and 3rd tier. not that they'd go the route, but would like to see him vs zhang in a punchers battle.

I don't see him becoming champion but he could definitely beat some Euro or even world level guys. Next i'd give him a European level test or a former world level guy who might not be what they once were. An opponent like:

Hughie, Wallin, Hunter, Chisora, Anderson, Pulev, Vianello, Zakhozhyi, Sirenko, Wilder, Franklin, Joyce.

I'd be happy to see Wardley fight Dubois, he's done enough for a shot and style wise it's two bangers. Much better fight than Parker going around again

the Chisora fight would probably be quite popular. Fabio is 29, young enough to be competitive in the post-Usyk/Fury era, so depending on how he handles his next step up, he could definitely have a puncher's chance of being heavyweight champ. Still think he gets clipped and bleeds too easily in the long haul though. I'd back Dubois over Fabio.

How do you figure that?
He is currently a domestic champion, not a Euro, or Intercontinental.
I would hope he got some steps up before a title shot.

Folk have got shots for less, but yeah he has hardly shoved himself to the front of the queue.
Quite reasonable for a first defence, and I think it would be a good fight

I'd just like him to gain a bit more experience at a higher level first. His resume is fairly shallow.

I'd like to see Hughie against Dereck Chisora.

If he can't beat a guy like that at this stage there's no point moving forward in his career. Hughie has stopped and stalled so many times he needs a relatively good name to demonstrate he's either got it or doesn't.

Jesus Christ Almighty God bless you all

Why does anyone want to see Chisora dragged out the cuboard again , he's finished , kaput , gone . It really is a bad sign for british boxing if he's still out there copetetive against the new crop

He's been a go-to for so long, that people automatically think a heavy needs a test - Chisora.
Maybe Frazer Clarke can fill that role if he wants to continue, bloody Del Boy has made a sizeable fortune for being 'that go-to guy"

Has just blitzed an Olympic medalist, every time he steps up he rises to it, has genuine power. Dubois doesnt have the look of a long time ruler either so I think this is a good fight for him too. I think it would be entertaining so would want to watch and although Wardley would be an underdog he could still realistically win.

If people on here think Hughie Fury is the solution then we're looking at different problems.

If they can't beat him then they don't deserve to go to the top. I don't think he should be getting higher up opportunities against top 10 guys but there's no reason he can't be a gatekeeper for world level against guys like Wardley who need a big name on their record or for the public to find out if they have what it takes to go further. A fight against Chisora tells us more about Wardley than if he faces a 20-0 can crusher at euro level. Despite being old and overused, Chisora has beat Joyce and Pulev over the past 2 years which are decent enough to keep him involved unfortunately. Miller suggested that he'd be fighting Chisora next which is exactly the type of fight Chisora should be taking to be honest.

Don't know i'm not privvy to what goes on , But do agree you can't beat Chisora you don't deserve to be at the top , but to beat him you have to fight him , so whats the problem why don't they do it , only thing i can think off is managers don't want to risk it , in which case get a new manager , while being babysat you don't deserve it , OR Chisora being the guy he is wants too much money , In which case don't pay him let him fizzle out , work stops coming in he has no choice but to move on

Chisora brings bums to the seats and dosh to the table, its just the kind of attractive undercard fight Turki likes. Delboy is coming off a win against a fringer so therefore is a fringer himself. (whether we like it or not, its a fact). Delboy wants to have 2 more and Frank n Eddie wont be able to turn down the coins that Chisora brings.

Whats more attractive, and i dont just mean to the purists, i mean to the casuals who will buy the ppv's

Wardley v Chisora :salut:

or

Wardley v Joyce, Wallin, Okolie, Whyte, Huni, Anderson or Ortiz :shame:

he has to fight someone, and it wont be a title shot.

and it wont be Itauma

very true - if they cant beat del then you have to question their ability to go further up the chain - however the most recent fight chisora had with a guy who is on going further up was in 2018 vs parker which he lost - since then he has fought equally unimpressive guys in pursuit of £££££ . hes not even a gate keeper any more .....
But uses up the available budget that could be spent on younger contenders coming thru like wardley / kabayel etc - in fact I wud rather see micheal hunter or bakole on a card instead of delboy .
I mean honestly the way he lost to fury was concerning - it was like man vs boy ..

Joyce was above him when they matched up and Pulev probably was too.

Also, although Chisora might take up some budget, he brings in more revenue than those other guys. I'd say it's more than he takes up a schedule spot moreso than budget.

I'd rather he just gets his next two fights out of the way and retires. I think that's the only way we'll see the back of him.

if you ever want to see the names of dozens of fighters youve never heard of, just check the sanctioning body top 15 rankings, they are filled with totally random dudes

obviously wardley isnt the #1 most deserving dude of a title shot, but he does have some good momentum lately and least and i enjoy his wild fights. wonder who will be next

Some of the rankings have zero logic do they, proper bonkers. Is a lot of it driven by who has the random continental belts etc?

Gotcha, explains the promoters being all over the WBC convention recently for instance
