Re: Fighter you want to see retire in 2025
Didn’t Chisora say he wants to get to 50 fights? He’s got 1 or 2 left I think. Of course if he gets wins in those then maybe there’ll be enough money there to tempt him to continue…margaret thatcher wrote: ↑03 Jan 2025, 13:55 chisora is 42 this year, not almost 40 btw![]()
he keeps getting those wins to give him another life though. if he beats wallin you can bet it buys him another year at least.
Re: Fighter you want to see retire in 2025
He said two more big fights. I was anticipating a bigger name than Wallin but if he wins then maybe Whyte, Wilder, Okolie, Wardley, Ajagba, Bakole, Hunter, Hrgovic, Ruiz, Miller, loser of Zhang/Kabayel? All the guys looking for a big name win or a comeback win basically. If he loses then his stock will probably drop too much for some of those names.chinarich wrote: ↑04 Jan 2025, 10:48Didn’t Chisora say he wants to get to 50 fights? He’s got 1 or 2 left I think. Re: Fighter you want to see retire in 2025
Unfortunately Chisora will end up with severe CTE. The brain just isn’t designed to take the battering Derek has had. The Vitali fight alone must’ve taken years off his life. People have to be realistic about how dangerous a long boxing career is. As I said Tris Dixon’s book is worth reading. I can’t think of any other books that approach the topic of the dangers of boxing. It’s a taboo subject in many ways. I believe in the individual choosing their journey but I believe the average life expectancy of a pro boxer is significantly shorter than averagejoshj909 wrote: ↑04 Jan 2025, 10:55He said two more big fights. Aww man
I want to see him beat before he dissapears to OF.
All this crap we have had to put up with- for years- and you want to let him go without a proper beat down like the drug cheat deserves?
Re: Fighter you want to see retire in 2025
This might be a little controversial, but I'd like to see Crawford retire.
He has been on the slide for a few years, not enough to lose, but when he does, it will be to someone he could have absolutely mullered between 2017-2024 and that would be a shame. His legacy needs an unbeaten retirement.

Re: Fighter you want to see retire in 2025
Interesting. But yeah many fighters dirty their legacy by going on too long. But ultimately most ignore the latter losses. Sugar Ray Robinson and Joe Louis are legends even though they went on too long. I think Crawford has some fights leftKiwiRider wrote: ↑04 Jan 2025, 14:24 This might be a little controversial, but I'd like to see Crawford retire.

Thing with Crawford, especially the last few years. He’s had too many gaps. Had he done the usual 2-3 fights a year, he could have beaten FMJ’s record too

I’d like to see a debutant retire at 1-0 and in the post fight interview say he always wanted to do what Mayweather and Calzaghe did and retire undefeated. Drop the mic walk out and never be seen of or heard of again.

Re: Fighter you want to see retire in 2025
Hopefully he retires sooner rather than later, as others have said it’s highly unlikely that he doesn’t already have quite a bit of irreversible damage. Still, Chisora must be one of the boxers that has maximised his talent the most, in terms of financial rewards he has probably earned the best outside of the world champions.joshj909 wrote: ↑04 Jan 2025, 10:55He said two more big fights. I’d forgotten about that obscenity. Oliver McCall!
The dude is still fighting and he's 60 this year.
He's got another fight planned for next month, I think.
He has an aura around him because of his chin.
He's managed to negotiate his career without even taking a count, or even being rocked.
It would be nice for him to retire with that record intact.
Problem is, if he keeps fighting, someone will down him one day.

Very bizarrely Darren Hamilton former British Champ fought just before new year after a near 10 year lay off (read it on Ben Doughtys page). How bizarre! 4 rounds loss against a British guy managed by Theo Pathitis in Germany. Seems very bonkers

Blimey why do you think Sturm is fighting, money? I know he has some financial and prison issues. He should not be fighting at that age blimeyJamesPhilips wrote: ↑05 Jan 2025, 11:01Yeah. Well there ya go. Sergio Martinez vs Felix Sturm. Loser must retire.JamesPhilips wrote: ↑05 Jan 2025, 11:01Yeah. And Felix Sturm just announced another fight at 46….SeanBrennan wrote: ↑05 Jan 2025, 10:00 Another from me - Sergio Martinez - not fought since 2023 but not sure he’s retired
I actually wish they actually would put clauses like that into contracts between 2 guys at that stage of their careers. It'd be one of the few ways to get those kinda fights to sell I think.

Martinez is a successful bloke, does some promoting in Spain, if he fights it is because he is bored and will handpick an opponentSeanBrennan wrote: ↑05 Jan 2025, 10:00 Another from me - Sergio Martinez - not fought since 2023 but not sure he’s retired

Fair enough, seems a very nice bloke done some excellent anti bullying work over the years too. He used to fight in uk quite a lot early on iirc I remember watching him on random cards not sure if he was with Maloney or someoneCoco wrote: ↑05 Jan 2025, 13:03Martinez is a successful bloke, does some promoting in Spain, if he fights it is because he is bored and will handpick an opponentSeanBrennan wrote: ↑05 Jan 2025, 10:00 Another from me - Sergio Martinez - not fought since 2023 but not sure he’s retired
