Caroline Dubois has done a brilliant interview with Seconds Out. She's not complimentary of the Dad and didn't watch the fight. Very intelligent young lady, surprised me.

Just listened to the part about her dad. The analogy was good. Her dad's clearly controlling

Roy Jones and Floyd Mayweather were both quite good. I actually think if a father knows what he is doing and is objective about his son's potential he could be the best trainer for his son. It can be a very fine line before it tips over into child abuse, though, depending on your definition and the definition where you live.

Generally I agree with you, though. Sideline dads in all sports generally do more harm than good.

Off course i'm generalizing , theres plenty of cases of dads being succesful with there sons , Mayweather , Calagzie , Lomenchenko , in fact i doubt they would have done what they did without there dads , The ones i'm refering too are the ones who bring in there 12 , -13 year old kid , never ever been involved in the sport and want to shout instructions from the sideline , quite often after watching there kid have a couple of fights then want to tell him how its done and the coach who has coached 100's of others , is wrong , Every boxing coach has noticed this , dads should be told keep there nose out UNLESS they have experience .

There was a statistic quoted in some boxing book I read.

It was to do with fatalities in boxing

Allegedly, a disproportionate number of boxing fatalities had their father in the corner.

It was spectaculated that fathers are so emotionally invested /living vicariously, they are loathe to pull their lad out and will hang on longer than a regular corner would.

I can't remember which book it was. It was a biography of a boxer. Decades since I read it. If it rings any bells someone pls remind me.

This seems very vague, would be very surprising if true. Surely far more brave unrelated trainers than fathers.

Could it have been Johnny Owen? Just a guess as his father was his trainer.

The WBC put something out a while ago about this. It was also to do with sons not wanting to give up when their father was in the corner too.
