Anyone else annoyed with Jim Watt?

I would like to see Bob Mee have a go at main commentary, he is embarressing Holdsworth at the moment.

Colonel did a good job with Ali vs Foreman, but that is about it. I generally don't like his feeds, although prefer his to Holdsworth. I used to like Steve's commentary, but finding he is saying "I beg your pardon" or "sorry, my mistake" more and more these days.

and the most annoying of all "a bit of replay the from round....." No shit sherlock, no description of the actual replay.

I don't mind Smith that much, the guy who does ESPN (the one who looks like Liza Minelli last husband) is very good and works well with Atlas.

Watt is the man though as a Colour commentator. I would really like to see Reg Gutteridge or Harry Carpenter back for some fights. I have seen both on TV this past year and they still seem sharp and vocally good. Having Harry Carpenter doing round by round analysis for the early BBC comeback fights was quite odd, but still good to hear.

Joe Tessitore works the mic for ESPN. He does work well with Atlas who seems totally comfortable with him and clearly respects him. One small problem I have is that when they have a short interview with a 'name' fighter who has an upcoming bout, they suck up to him a little much. If your going to have the guy on for a few minutes you may as well ask some testing questions.

I always found the interviews with name fighters to be awkward. Jermain Taylor, Mosley and Cory Spinks I recall were really hard on the ears. I think it can be a problem when someone just turns up without being 'warmed up'. Sort of distracts from the actual fight as well.

I think Jim Watt always does the same thing. He decides who he wants to win a fight and then spends the whole time telling us how wonderful his pick is and saying negative things about the fighter that he doesn't favour. He and Darke are not a patch on Harry or Reg. Eamon Andrews was also a fair commentator. In America Howard Cossell and i think it was Don Dunphy were the best.

Watt can be good, but once he gets a bee in his bonnet about something or favours one fighter then thats that for the rest of the fight.

Smith is just a plain cock, reminds me of the kids who's heads you'd flush down the toilet at school.

watt was doing my head in the other night.

he was just riding guzman's dick far too much. i had guzman winning by 8 rds to 4, but he did go thru lazy spells.

barrera was boxing so cautiously and losing rds against juarez, and watt was just riding barrera's dick all the time.

it was great to see glenn and ian back in the hotseat for the witter-corley fight.

time for watt to retire methinks.

For all Watt's flaws, he's still one of the best 'colour men' in the business. That gutteral high pitched screaming of is what I think of when I think of a big international fight.

I like Watt, can be annoying but basicallly knows what he's talking about... the worst commentator by far is that guy on ITV!¬!!!!!... IN FACT HE'S SO BAD I CANT REMEMBER HIS BLOODY NAME!!!.... :x :x :x

this isnt new watt`s being dong this for years.his one of the most biased and critical commentators we have.iv watched him jump all over hattons jock time and again and then deride great fighters like RJJ with his performances who in his eyes have been sub par.IMO SKy need to poach holdsworth from eurosport but that will NEVER Happen as steve just isnt politcally correct.even bunce towed the line for the BBC touting audley even though he blatanty thought and new otherwise.

I give Watt credit for saying "whatever Vasquez and Gonzalez are getting paid for this fight, it's not enough!" which echo'd my sentiments exactly.

I agree with those who think Barrios didn't get the credit he deserved for bravely keeping himself in the fight, but in terms of the actual scoring of the fight I was utterly gob-smacked that one of the judges had Barrios winning. It was a cracking fight, but Guzman beat Jorge out of sight on my scorecard.

Having said that, I disagreed with his commentary and scorecard in the Barrera-Jaurez bout. That for me, was a close win for Barrera who put on a lousy performance for a supposed modern day legend of the game.

I can count on one hand the amount of times I have been critical of Watt..... I thought his scoring of Harrison vs Polo and Booth vs Kelly was out (but I agreed with who he thought won). Yes, I thought he was OTT and discounting Barrios a bit too much on Saturday.

However, 99% of the time he is spot on and is fantastic at his job. How many other colour commentators would have mentioned Barrera's nose bleed in fight one as a reason for his problems. Judging by fight 2, it was a major reason.
