CANELO ALVAREZ VS. TERENCE CRAWFORD AGREEMENT IN PLACE FOR SEPTEMBER MEGAFIGHT IN LAS VEGAS

The Ring has learned that an agreement is in place for Saul “Canelo” Alvarez to defend his super middleweight titles against Terence Crawford in an intriguing battle between generational greats.

Alvarez, 34, and Crawford, 37, are expected to meet in the main event of a Riyadh Season show - on a September date to be determined, and a venue to be chosen in Las Vegas.

The Alvarez-Crawford megafight will pit the No. 3 fighter on The Ring’s pound-for-pound list, Crawford, against the seventh-rated Alvarez, boxing’s most marketable star in the United States.

Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs), of Omaha, Nebraska, and Alvarez (62-2-2, 39 KOs), of Guadalajara, Mexico, are four-division champions and elite-level talents, but Crawford will move up two weight classes – from the junior middleweight limit of 154 pounds to the super middleweight maximum of 168 – for what figures to be the most difficult fight of his 17-year professional career.

Alvarez and Crawford both stand at approximately 5-foot-8, but Alvarez figures to open as a decided betting favorite because he is the more powerful fighter and has competed as high as the light heavyweight limit of 175 pounds.

Crawford made his junior middleweight debut August 3, when career-long 154-pound contender Israil Madrimov (10-1-1, 7 KOs) gave Crawford some trouble in a 12-round bout the former undisputed welterweight champ won by unanimous decision at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles.

The business savvy Alvarez initially ignored Crawford’s overtures. As momentum developed for their fight among hardcore and casual boxing fans, Alvarez eventually came around.

The Mexican superstar and Turki Alalshikh - owner of The Ring and head of Riyadh Season - met in London last month to discuss the Crawford bout because Alvarez attended the inaugural Ring awards gala at Old Royal Naval College.

Crawford has long been committed to moving up two weight classes to square off against Alvarez in what has all the makings of a very successful pay-per-view event.

Alvarez - who holds the Ring, IBO, WBA, WBC and WBO super middleweight titles - is first expected to fight May 3 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. His opponent for what will amount to a stay-busy fight prior to facing Crawford has not been determined.

IBF super middleweight champ William Scull (23-0, 9 KOs) has long been considered as a possible option for Canelo's return in May.

Scull won the IBF belt stripped from Alvarez last July on October 19. The Cuban-born, Germany-based Scull defeated Russia’s Vladimir Shishkin (16-1, 10 KOs) by unanimous decision that night at Stadthalle in Falkensee, a suburb of Berlin.

It isn’t clear if Crawford will box before a fight with Alvarez in September. If Crawford waits, he won’t have fought for 13 months by the time he steps into the ring to box Alvarez.

Crawford has history on his side, because unlike most championship-caliber boxers, he has performed at an elite level even when ending long periods of inactivity.

Think Canelo will be too big but I hope Crawford wins. Crawford is definitely better pound for pound these days but the size will be new and significant for Crawford. Haven't been a fan of Canelo for quite a few years now due to PEDs, robberies, diva antics and attempting cherry picking.

CANELO ALVAREZ VS. TERENCE CRAWFORD: RIYADH SEASON BLOCKBUSTER WILL TAKE PLACE IN ALLEGIANT STADIUM

A source has advised The Ring that September's Riyadh Season card - featuring the blockbuster fight between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Terence Crawford - will become the first boxing event to take place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Allegiant Stadium, which opened in 2020, is a domed multi-purpose stadium and home to the Las Vegas Raiders of the NFL and the UNLV Rebels college football team. The venue has a seating capacity of 65,000 and the ability to expand to 71,835.

The stadium is in high demand when it comes to hosting some of the biggest events in the United States. Allegiant hosted Super Bowl LVIII in February 2024 and will host WrestleMania 41 in April 2025 and the College Football Playoff National Championship game in January 2027.

Accidentally chose Crawford TKO in the poll but meant to choose Canelo TKO.
Too big, too powerful, very good defense, takes a real shot, don't see what Crawford really can to do to him.
I figure he wears Crawford down to a late round stoppage, though a decision would not be surprising of course.
He gets held to a higher standard (gee, I wonder why that could be), but he's got an absolutely absurd record, so even in the experience department he's better though he's younger.

Masterclass by canelo… have a big fight nearly done. Then go to ditch it for a big circus. Then have Turki try save boxing by paying him extra mega bucks to have the original big fight planned.

(Fighting Jake Paul for 100million would have also been a masterclass….)

was Canelo's performance another sign of decline or just Scull hiding/trying to survive?

CANELO-CRAWFORD WILL BE FIRST TKO BOXING EVENT PROMOTED BY TURKI ALALSHIKH AND DANA WHITE

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia - Now that Canelo Alvarez is past William Scull, the long-anticipated showdown with Terence Crawford is on.

Crawford stepped into the ring to face off with Canelo as Turki Alalshikh announced that the pair will meet for Alvarez’s Ring Magazine super middleweight championship on Sept. 12 at Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium.

Alalshikh later revealed on social media that the Canelo-Crawford super fight will be the first TKO Boxing event promoted by himself and UFC president Dana White.

The TV platform for the fight will be announced later, Alalshikh said.

Alalshikh and White unveiled plans for TKO’s boxing venture last month in New York. TKO was formed when WWE and UFC joined forces to form a publicly traded company. Nick Khan, the president of WWE, was a driving force in boxing for years.

He managed Hall of Famers James Toney and Manny Pacquiao and negotiated Top Rank’s media rights deal with ESPN as the co-head of CAA’s TV department.

Canelo-Crawford will be the third Riyadh Season event outside the Kingdom following Crawford-Israil Madrimov in Los Angeles and Anthony Joshua-Daniel Dubois in London last year.

Really wish Crawford had fought at 168 on this undercard to fee the weight. Derevenchenko would have been perfect.

I just don’t like a year off in the late 30s then jumping 2 weights… Still think craw will get it done honestly. But hard to say.

Craw has fought once a year for the last 5 or 6 years… such a waste of p4p talent, could have had an extra 5-10 good names on his record. But I guess he got Spence, and now canelo, so quality over quantity.

CANELO ALVAREZ SET TO BECOME FIRST 'BILLION DOLLAR BOXER,' BUSINESS MANAGER PREDICTS

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is set to become history’s first "billion dollar boxer" at some point in 2026, according to his business manager Richard Schaefer.

The Mexican idol kicked off his lucrative four-fight Riyadh Season deal on Saturday night — but it wasn’t pretty.

The Ring champion spent 12 early morning rounds chasing William Scull around every inch of the ring at ANB Arena and eventually claimed a comfortable unanimous decision, which made him a two-time undisputed super-middleweight champion.

The victory set up a Sept. 12 superfight with Terence Crawford at Allegiant Stadium Las Vegas with both men brought together in centre-ring for a face-off to kick off the promotion for the biggest fight of the year.

That showdown will cap a remarkable year for Canelo (63-2-2, 39 KOs), who recently surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo to become the highest paid athlete on the planet during 2025. It has been recently estimated by Forbes that he has earned just over $600m during his professional career, which turns 20 in October.

Now Schaefer has predicted that the 34-year-old is on the brink of reaching an astonishing boxing milestone.

The former Golden Boy CEO told The Ring: “Canelo is, without any question, the smartest businessman in boxing I have ever met.

“And we are going to get him over that next hurdle… He’s going to be the first fighter to break the billion dollar net worth.

“I have zero questions about it. When? Probably next year.”

Schaefer’s presence alongside Canelo in Riyadh had come as a surprise for some given the former banker has been essentially absent from boxing for many years and considered himself "happily retired" from the business.

But he explained how his relationship with the Mexican, which began 17 years ago, was recently rekindled.

“I’m very fortunate,” Schaefer said. “I started with him when he was 17 years old. I’ve known him since then and now he’s 34.

“We worked together during the Golden Boy days and always had an amazing relationship and friendship with him. And then he reached back out. We stayed in touch. We were friends. We called each other.

“We met each other. But I was sort of retired, I've done my thing in boxing and was happily retired. And then he called me and he said, 'Look, it would be great to have you back. Come and help me with everything.’

“He's my friend. So I'm very happy to do that. I'm thrilled, excited to be working for him and with him, handling all different aspects; fight negotiations, all these other businesses, everything."
