Gutted after reading the above. I thought Harrison's problems had perhaps been exaggerated but it's clear he's got a little problem there. As someone who has his own troubles with John Barleycorn on occasion I can sympathise fully with Scotty. Hope he gets better.

I dont wish to be controversial but is there some genetic in Scottish people that makes them more likely to be alcoholics? Or is it just a cultural thing?

Not taking the piss by the way my old man is a recovered alcholic. Just curious.

Maloney told the Scottish Sun: "There were stories flying around everywhere about Scott going out drinking. It was a soap opera, a Glasgow version of EastEnders.

"We met him somewhere in the Gorbals. He was out of it. He looked as if he had been on a session all night and all morning.

"I told him we were going to a party. Then we'd see a pal of mine who would help us. After a lot of persuasion we got him into the car.

"It wasn't a nice journey as we kept having to give him alcohol.

"When we arrived he kept saying 'We should be partying. What are we doing in a place like this?'

"I just told Scott he had a problem."

Blimey...brings it home when you read something like that. That is a long and slippery slope Scot has fallen down.
And it's going to be a long and rocky road back.

Read a post elsewhere from a Harrison fan saying Maloney cliamed Harrison threatened to kill him!

Where I read it anyway.

Of course, this could all just be bitterness and acrimony from Maloney because Harrison has buggered off. Just playing devils advocate. I like Maloney, but he seems to take it very personally when one of his boxers flies the coop, I think he forms quite an attachment to his fighters, seems to get involved in their lives. I'm sure I read something where he swore that after Lennox Lewis he would never get to personally involved with a fighter again.

Come on boys, didn't you know were all bevvy merchants up here? If were not pished, were shagging all of the english burds cause they like real men like us, not you soft as shit southern folk.

To be honest I had sympothy for the wee man to start with, but after a while I just think he's brought it on himself so stuff him. There are plenty of folk who would love to had his opportunity and he's blown it big time, no sympothy left for him, although would still like it if he got it together and had a real go at the top fighters. One of the problems with living in Glasgow is that there are always plenty of guys who would give you a slap if you step out of line, even being a boxer.

, yes sounds like a piss take and I'm a none Scot, Brits as a whole are alcoholics mate, I know plenty of alcos (not the homeless kind), I needed to drink every single night myself - not as bad as needing to drink all day alcos - you get a thirst and your not happy unless your sucking something down, so I've stopped (first 2 days are the hardest and I've stopped for 5days) and I plan on staying off the stuff. Not going to any AA meetings, just man up and control yourself

I think maybe with the cold weather, the lack of opportunites in urban Glasgow, and a drinking culture is the reason for higher alcoholism.
