Well Ray Leonard himself said he never wanted to fight McCallum, and Manny Steward said he avoided making a fight with McCallum for Hearns. So that's two out of four.

However, I am not saying they were scared of McCallum, they just didn't fancy the risk-reward ratio.

When did Ray Leonard say he never wanted to fight McCallum and what were his reasons? Also at which point in Rays career did he 'choose' not to fight him?

With respect to you and Manny Steward he says a lot of things these days, also didn't Manny handle McCallum at one point? If so I can understand why he would not want his two best fighters to fight each other.

Manny did indeed handle McCallum at one point, however, McCallum left fairly early on in his career, frustrated at not being able to get a title shot.

I know Manny Steward says a lot of stuff, and talks a lot of bollocks, but my point is that Manny is far from Loyal, and usually once a fighter leaves Steward, he's no longer flavour of the month. Hence Lennox Lewis was suddenly a coward for not fighting on when Manny was handling Wlad and Vitali briefly, yet when with Lewis, he said at one point that Lewis should retire.

Manny said that he never wanted them to face eachother because during sparring, McCallum used to give Hearns a fearful hiding. It was hearns that called him the bodysnatcher after all. Great nickname.

In any case, finding the truth in boxing is like going digging for rocking horse shit, frustrating, and pretty futile.

minter was beginning to get worked over when the ref saved his bacon. hagler had him on toast really.

minter got too fired up and wanted to scrap it out with hagler. he should have played it cagey and tried to nab a hometown points decision.

easier said than done though against a brute like hagler of course.

mccallum goes for steward after the milton mccrory fight.

i think mccallum beat toney in the first 2 fights. one of my all time faves is the bodysnatcher.
