Best quotes by fighters

Post by Expug »

Lotta fighters had interesting and or hilarious takes on things. Doesn’t have to be funny. Tex Cobb “ I could find a cure for cancer but getting Howard Cosel out of boxing will be my greatest achievement “.

Vinnie Pazienza had some good ones, some of which would now be considered politically incorrect. One that wasn't was his comment after stopping Nelson Bolanos in the 4th, it was something like "when i saw his legs turn to spaghetti I was on him like the sauce".

Seamus , do you remember the fighting O’Shea brothers? Brian, Rory , and Tommy? I’ll never forget as a young kid at the old CYO gym on west Jackson. I’d just got done getting my ass handed to me sparring. I come out of the ring and Rory OShea is sitting there and says hey,kid “ see, this game ain’t so tough. You just need a little left tit” I never forgot that I named my son Rory about 20 years later.

And here I thought you named him for Rory Gallagher. Now me, if I had a son and named him Rory, it would be for Rory O'Connor. Good Story :TU:

"If anybody ever hits me any harder than Earnie Shavers, I'll just shoot the son of a bitch" - Tex Cobb

That one might be my all time favorite quote by a boxer.

Big Rory Gallagher fans also. Odd how he was hardly ever heard here on Chicago stations in the 70s.

Cobb told Larry Holmes after getting shelled for 15 rounds “ next time let’s do it in a phone booth”. Larry said no , “ next time, let’s do it over the phone “.
