The question that came to my mind - was there ever a window for Shane Mosley to grab a belt at middleweight (something that his peer ODLH did, albeit controversially)? Here's the best I could come up with:
On July 15, 2006 - Mosley KO'd Vargas in their 2nd fight, in Vegas. On the same day, but on the other side of the pond (in Germany), Javier Castillejo pulled off an upset of a sort by stopping Felix Sturm and winning the WBA middleweight title.
Mosley's win over Vargas was officially the WBA eliminator at 154. So, if Mosley would actually move up to 160 (instead of moving back down to 147) - he'd likely receive a high ranking within the WBA at MW.
Let's say, Golden Boy Promotions would entice Spaniard with a good payday and he'd put his belt on the line. Mosley to come in at 156 or something.
How do you see it going?

I think he could've beaten Castillejo in all likelihood, but he wouldn't have made a successful defense of the title.
