The Light Welter Division

Post by Taansend »

Bit of a Merry Go Round at the moment.

Since the start of last year.....

We've seen Haney lose to Garcia which was then overturned while Garcia gets banned. Then they both get rewarded with life changing money from Turkey.

Teo Lopez fought twice, A fight I fought he lost against Ortiz then a pedestrian win against a bloke with 7 losses. After providing highlight kayos in his early career he's only stopped one of the last seven opponents. Should be a good battle against Arnold Barboza who recently beat Catterall who seems destined to be this generations Michael Brodie.

Exciting Subriel Matias lost his title to Liam Paro, who then lost in his first defence to Hitchins.

Andy Hiraoka beats the ancient but always dangerous Barroso to win a belt. Be interesting to see who he next goes up against?

Gary Antoine Russell goes from knocking everyone out to being out hustled by Alberto Puello - who I thought lost to Sandor Martin last night - to dismantling Rayo Valenzuela who himself looked excellent against Pitbull Cruz who took apart Rolly who goes up against Ryan Garcia.

This is not to mention the good prospects coming through. Smith, Azim, Mercado, Delgado, Lee & a host of others.

Who's your top fighters in the division? I'm guessing Haney & Garcia are up at Welter now.

Seeing as no other bastard is going to answer :D

140 might be the busiest division in the new year. Teo meets Shakur, Sabriel meets Dalton, Keyshawn fights, Adam fights, Arthur fights, Ernesto just fought, Frank returns and a host of other top 20 fighters have recently fought.

In my humble opinion, the winner of Lopez & Stevenson will be 5th or 6th in the P4P ratings.

I hope we see Jose Valenzuela return soon. And when is Gary A Russell going to fight again?

Well done Dalton Smith.

He deserves a nice hometown fight after that before a September big match against a top name.

I think shakur is the number 1 at the division.

Hitch keyshawn and teo 2/3/4 in some order

Dalton 5 (I’m not sure he is actualy 5th best but he pulled it out so a bit like wardly you gotta credit the win not the round scoring)…

The winner of Russell & Hiraoka will be right up there with them

Dalton has well and truly staked his claim after ripping the title away from Matias. That kind of performance won't have gone unnoticed.

Just looking at the division now....

1 - Shakur. Is he staying at 140 or dropping back to 135? He was jawing with O Shaquie tonight about a fight between them two.

2 - Dalton. Any news of his next fight? Still Puello?

3 - Richardson. Been out a year now. And signed with Zuffa. Can he still make weight?

4 - Keyshawn. Two good wins at 140. I would love to see him v Azim but that ain't happening. So what's next?

5 - Adam. He hardly broke sweat tonight. Hopefully out again September or October.

6 - Gary. In true Russell style he only fights once a year. So we'll revisit him in 2027.

Shitloads of names out there, veterans, ex Champs & prospects. Lots of decent fighters, not too many decent fights coming up.

In recent years it's really felt like the 130/135/140 pound weight class is just kinda interchangeable with all of those guys just going back and forth as they please, and nobody really doing anything especially noteworthy, they're all just hanging around each other.

I'm sure Shakur vs Foster will happen because that's a decent, but not major fight which has kinda been all we get out of any of these guys.

Is Teo still at 140 or moving up to Welter? Him v Garcia (or Benn) would be a laugh.

At 140 him v Subriel Matias would be great for New York. At 147 too. Any weight.

I like the way you're thinking with that Matias fight. That'd be good for sure.
