‘The Romford Bull’ runs in back with ‘White Rhino’ at Copper Box Arena on May 17 while ‘Thunder’ returns at Sheffield’s Canon Medical Arena on April 19

Johnny Fisher and Dave Allen will meet again in a huge Heavyweight rematch at London’s Copper Box Arena on Saturday May 17 following their controversial first fight in Saudi Arabia back in December, while undefeated WBC Super-Lightweight Mandatory Challenger Dalton Smith returns against Mathieu Germain at the Canon Medical Arena in Sheffield on Saturday April 19 – with both events shown live worldwide on DAZN.

Romford’s Fisher (13-0, 11 KOs) took a contentious split-decision victory over Coinsbrough’s Allen (32-7-2, 18 KOs) on the undercard of Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury 2 at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh. Two of the judges scored in Fisher’s favour, despite the 26-year-old ‘Romford Bull’ suffering a knockdown in the fifth round of a gruelling ten-round Heavyweight clash.

Fisher returns to the scene of his sensational one-round destruction of Croatia’s Alen Babic last summer, looking to put this chapter of his career to bed, while Allen is convinced he will be able to take the decision out of the judges’ hands in the rematch by knocking Fisher out this time.

Sheffield’s newly-crowned European Champion Smith (17-0, 13 KOs) looks to keep the momentum building as he works towards career-defining fights in the 140 lbs division when he faces Canada’s Germain (26-2-1, 11 KOs) at the top of a card also featuring Matchroom’s latest signing Josh Padley (15-1, 4 KOs).

‘Thunder’ kicked off the year in style by wiping out Frenchman Walid Ouizza in one round at Nottingham’s Motorpoint Arena to claim the vacant EBU Title in January, and the 28-year-old has now been named as the Mandatory Challenger to the WBC World Title currently owned by the Dominican Republic’s Alberto Puello.

Armthorpe Lightweight Padley recently put pen to paper on a multi-fight promotional deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing following his valiant display against WBC World Champion Shakur Stevenson on the blockbuster Beterbiev vs. Bivol 2 undercard in Saudi Arabia.

The 29-year-old Yorkshireman stepped in to face pound-for-pound star Stevenson at just four days’ notice and has since quit his day job as an electrician to fully focus on his boxing career, promising a big performance on his Matchroom debut next month.

Elsewhere on the card, former IBF Featherweight World Champion Josh Warrington (34-4-1, 8 KOs) returns to action, Ishmael Davis (13-2, 6 KOs) and Ryan Kelly (19-5-1, 8 KOs) meet in an Eliminator for the British Super-Welterweight Title, Aldershot Super-Featherweight Giorgio Visioli (6-0, 5 KOs) takes on Birmingham’s Kane Baker (19-11-2, 1 KO), Newham Super-Middleweight Leli Buttigieg (7-0, 1 KO) fights for the second time this year and Dave Allen-managed Wigan Super-Lightweight Joe Howarth (11-1, 4 KOs) fights for the first time in 2025.

“I’m looking forward to headlining my second sold-out event at the Copper BOSH Arena on May 17,” said Fisher. “I’m excited to put on another great fight for the fans and win in even better fashion this time around.”

“I’m excited to be getting another great opportunity,” said Allen. “To headline shows twice in London means a great deal to a kid from a small village in Doncaster. This time I will be bringing home the victory.”

“It’s an honour to be headlining again in my home city, and this time at a new venue in the Canon Medical Arena,” said Smith. “I’m sure it’ll be a lively atmosphere in there with my fans in full voice!

“I had an excellent start to the year winning the European Title in spectacular fashion and now that I’m Mandatory Challenger for the WBC Title I’m looking to keep up my activity.

“Mathieu Germain will be coming to win but I’ll be getting the job done – he’s in the way of some huge nights for me. I’m not looking ahead, but there will be one name I’ll be calling out after dealing with Germain. Alberto Puello, where you at?!”

“Another two UK fight nights to bolster our unrivalled global schedule on the home of boxing – DAZN,” said Matchroom Sport Chairman Eddie Hearn. “Johnny Fisher and Dave Allen will run it back in front of a packed out Copper Box Arena on May 17 after their thrilling back and forth battle in Saudi Arabia last December. ‘The Romford Bull’ is promising to be ten times better when they meet again while ‘White Rhino’ says he will take it out of the judges’ hands this time by knocking out Fisher. It’s going to be another electric night in East London for the Bull Army. Before that, WBC Super-Lightweight Mandatory Challenger Dalton Smith returns in his home city against Canada’s Mathieu Germain, and he can’t afford any slip ups as he waits for his dream World Title shot.”

“Two brilliant UK fight nights to add to our already packed spring schedule’, said Alfie Sharman, VP DAZN. “It’s brilliant to see Dalton back at it so quickly as he chases down a World Title in 2025, and I can’t wait for Fisher vs. Allen 2. I was ringside for the first fight, and it was brutal; a proper back and forth, action packed, fight to remember. So tune in to these two excellent matchups, only on DAZN.”

Ticket details for both events will be announced in due course.

Dalton Smith will fight Mathieu Germain on April 19

Unbeaten super-lightweight Dalton Smith will fight Mathieu Germain at the Canon Medical Arena in Sheffield on Saturday April 19, it was announced today.

Smith, the WBC’s mandatory challenger, currently holds the European title and boasts a professional record of 17-0 (13 KOs). Germain, meanwhile, holds a record of 26-2-1 (11 KOs), but has yet to fight outside his native Canada.

"It’s an honour to be headlining again in my home city, and this time at a new venue in the Canon Medical Arena," said Smith. "I’m sure it’ll be a lively atmosphere in there with my fans in full voice.

"I had an excellent start to the year winning the European title in spectacular fashion and now that I’m mandatory challenger for the WBC title I’m looking to keep up my activity.

"Mathieu Germain will be coming to win but I’ll be getting the job done – he’s in the way of some huge nights for me. I’m not looking ahead, but there will be one name I’ll be calling out after dealing with Germain. [WBC champion] Alberto Puello, where you at?!”

"I am a boxer who thrives on challenges," said Germain. "Dalton is one of them. I’ve been working hard my whole life for this moment!"

Also on the April 19 bill will be Armthorpe lightweight Josh Padley, who recently performed so heroically at late notice against WBC champion Shakur Stevenson in Saudi Arabia. Padley, an electrician by day, stepped in at just four days’ notice to fight Stevenson and has since quit his day job to full focus on his boxing career.

Elsewhere, former IBF featherweight world champion Josh Warrington, 34-4-1 (8 KOs) returns to action, Ishmael Davis, 13-2 (6 KOs), and Ryan Kelly, 19-5-1 (8 KOs), meet in an eliminator for the British super-welterweight Title, Aldershot super-featherweight Giorgio Visioli, 6-0 (5 KOs), takes on Birmingham's Kane Baker, 19-11-2 (1 KO), Newham super-middleweight Leli Buttigieg, 7-0 (1 KO), fights for the second time this year, and super-lightweight Joe Howarth, 11-1, (4 KOs), fights for the first time in 2025.

I thought Dalton was a big superstar who would be headlining Hillsborough soon? He’s so badly promoted.

The arena they’re fighting in is tiny. Callum Simpson sold it out on his own & he’s not even from Sheffield.

Warrington could sell it out.

He needs to leave matchroom soon.

Don’t like Josh paddly being on this card. Took a lot of punishment just 2 months prior to it… I get wanting to get him on a card when he is near his home town but surely they will have to give him a horrifically soft touch for this to be safe.

Seems a classic "sitting on a number 1 contender position, keep active but little risk" fight.

I understand why, but it's distinctly underwhelming.

it's true, french fighters in particular seem to have a way of staying low profile even if they get to something like 30-0

He's 28 and in a red hot division. It seems like Dalton's nowhere near ready for world level and if he isn't by now will he ever be ? He's got only one name of any real value on his CV - what's he waiting for, why's he still fighting relative nobodies.

he looked on the right path with the zepada win but back to treading water. i guess i can see some more fights before taking another step, but these last 2 are below the zep level, when he shoulda at least maintained that or kept it close. ouzzi offered nothing and having seen germain i dont think he will do anything for dalt's development.

i will say, at least he's active now, earlier in his career he was on the sidelines far too much

He can't be earning much money for fights like this

Why not try and make a big domestic fight with Catterall, it could fill an arena maybe

He'd probably lose but it's a more worthwhile outing than fighting Euro plodders

Josh Warrington handed Michael Conlan’s comeback foe in ring return

Josh Warrington will make his return to the ring on April 19 after he decided to reverse his decision to retire and make another roll of the dice.

Warrington laid down his gloves on the canvas after defeat to Anthony Cacace last September, mimicking how an ancient warrior would lay down his sword to signal the end of his fighting days.

Warrington had decided before the Cacace fight that a third successive defeat – after a loss to Luis Alberto Lopez, followed by a stoppage defeat to Leigh Wood – would spell the end of his boxing career.

Since September, Warrington has made a U-turn on the decision to walk away at 34 years old, believing he still has more left in the tank.

Warrington will return April 19 on the undercard of Dalton Smith-Mathieu Germain in Sheffield, England, in the hope of getting a routine win before landing a big fight later this year.

The big fight that has been spoken of for Warrington by promoter Eddie Hearn is one against Ireland’s Michael Conlan.

Conlan, after pondering his own retirement, made a return to the ring in March against Asad Asif Khan in an eight-rounder in Brighton, England.

Conlan admitted to shedding rust early on, but he was able to defeat Khan by unanimous decision.

Khan has also been selected as Warrington’s “comeback” opponent, and one would think that the reasoning behind the decision is for Warrington to put on a better showing than Conlan.

The 19-6-1 (5 KOs) Khan is no easy touch for a return to the ring, as Conlan found out, and has been in the ring with high-level operators such as former world titleholder Can Xu, losing via stoppage in Round 5.

I really don’t like these kind of shows.

No fights of interest really.

I haven’t looked in the last couple of weeks but there were still tickets available a few weeks back. Crazy considering the size of venue, Warrington being on there and Smith meant be a reasonable headliner.

Yeah, it's all a bit low-effort, low-stakes.

Smith's fight is the definition of a "keep active, while not risking your mandatory spot" match, and it's been many a year since Warrington fought someone at this level.

Agyarko vs Kelly and Visioli vs Baker are probably the best two bouts, which isn't good enough for a Saturday night show.

Joking apart, Matchroom's non-ppv stuff is fairly gash. Frank's looks okay, so far.

Eddie Hearn reveals Dalton Smith’s route to WBC 140lbs title

Eddie Hearn has outlined the plan for Dalton’s Smith pursuit of the WBC junior-welterweight title – starting with victory on Saturday over Canada’s Mathieu Germain.

The 28-year-old Smith is the mandatory challenger to the title held by the Dominican Alberto Puello, who since the announcement of Smith-Germain is still to finalize a voluntary title defense.

Should, as expected, Smith defeat the 35-year-old Germain, Matchroom hope to deliver for him, in the autumn in his home city of Sheffield, a fight with either Puello or his next opponent.

Saturday’s fight is at Sheffield’s Park Community Arena. In victory in January over Walid Ouizza of France, Smith perhaps demonstrated that he is reaching his physical peak; he has also been spoken of as a potential future opponent for his fellow Briton Jack Catterall, but Hearn told BS: “Puello, who is the new champion, now has one fight – a voluntary – that he’s allowed. Then he has to fight Dalton Smith. So we need to fight and want to fight, and we had to pick someone from the rankings that we thought would give him a good fight; a tough fight.

“I think Germain will do that. He hasn’t lost for five years; he’s tough, but really it’s a bit of a waiting game, if I’m honest. You gotta go out there; make a statement; raise your profile, and get ready for that world-title shot. Puello, I think, has 90 days now to do a voluntary. We’re fighting April; he might have to fight in May or June.

“Then September, October – something like that [is when we want Smith to fight again]. If it has to be November it doesn’t really matter. We’ll do everything we can to bring that fight to Sheffield, but I don’t have a problem with it being in Saudi [Arabia] or being in America or whatever. I believe he beats Puello.”
