GERVONTA DAVIS VS. LAMONT ROACH: OFFICIAL GATE AND TICKET NUMBERS REVEALED

Gervonta Davis’ controversial draw with Lamont Roach last month in Brooklyn generated a $6,415,815 gate with 16,420 tickets sold and 766 comps, according to an Authorized Combative Sports Tax Return audit from New York State.

The announced attendance at Barclays Center, however, was a 19,250 sellout. At 17,186 including comps, that official number is still 2,064 below what was revealed by PBC.

It’s an impressive gate number for Davis, one of the sport’s top attractions. He’s generated sizable crowds at numerous destinations around the U.S., from Los Angeles to Las Vegas and Atlanta.

“Tank” Davis’ biggest fight, by far, was his April 2023 TKO victory over Ryan Garcia, which drew a 22.8 million gate in Las Vegas. That fight also sold over 1 million PPV buys.

Without another A-side dance partner like Garcia, Davis has never approached those kinds of numbers again.

He’s expected to meet Roach in a summer encore after he exercised the rematch clause, with June 21 in Las Vegas being eyed.

The fight was best remembered, of course, for the controversial 10th round when Davis’ knee touched the canvas from a punch, yet referee Steve Willis failed to call a knockdown.

The New York State Athletic Commission later upheld the result but acknowledged a knockdown should have been ruled. Roach was forced to settle for a draw rather than the major upset victory in a fight most observers felt he eked out.
