Sugar Ray Robinson (Pre Maxim Fight) Vs Carmen Basilio,Gene Fullmer,Paul Pender

Post by GordonChen »

Basically Robinson before he retired when he fought maxim he was 31 year old at the time and he appeared to be winning the fight till the heat caught him which got the fight to be stopped and he retired for 3 years which had impact his skills where he lose to a upset to Ralph jones in a brief comeback where he was 34 years ago then by the time he fought Gene Fullmer he was around 36 year old by that time and when he fought Carmen Basilio he was about 38 year old now for Paul Pender he 40 year Clearly showing he aging in those fight so I wonder how would the Robinson that fought lamotta do against them could he beat them all or not what do you guys think could happen differently

He could win some and lose some in those fights with Gene Fullmer, Carmen Basilio and Paul Pender. Those 3 guys in shape, could beat anybody. No slouchness in their part.

But, I think that Sugar Ray Robinson would have had a better record against them three if those fights were in the late 1940s early 1950s decade. But those three were better than Carl "Bobo" Olson at least. Just a little better.

A prime Robinson would have been more trouble for these guys.
Pender was not great but very good. Hard to imagine him beating a much younger Robinson.
Basilio would have still been tough, but Robinson would have handled him better.
Fullmer would always have been tough for Robinson. On a given night, he might still beat Robinson. But the vast majority of the time Robinson would have beaten him.

A younger Robinson would have been harder for these guys to hit and would have had better stamina.
