The Russian run IBA had to go. Too corrupt.

Re: IOC banishes IBA but boxing still in the Olympics
The IOC knew about the corruption when one of their own, CK Wu, was at the helm of the then AIBA but done nothing.
A shake up was needed but the unhealthy jostling for positions of influence at World Boxing will not wipe the slate clean

Wu and his secretary general Ho Kim were as corrupt as the Russians and friends.
It will be interesting to see how this World Boxing group pans out. It will be many of the same people, different governing body name.

Re: IOC banishes IBA but boxing still in the Olympics
After yesterday's meeting of the IOC the situation on boxing at the 2028 Olympics has changed.
A few months they said that, although no official decision had been made, they basically guaranteed boxing would be held in LA.
Now they just say that a decision to keep the sport in the Olympics is "on hold".
Reading between the lines it seems they are not happy that most nations are staying as members of the IBA.

A few months later, they declared that they essentially promised boxing would take place in Los Angeles, even though no formal decision had been made.

Re: IOC banishes IBA but boxing still in the Olympics
The saviour of Olympic Boxing will be a reversal of the decision to slowly erode and reduce the weight groups from 12 down to 7 in Paris and 6 in Los Angeles 28. Unfair and unsafe, all in the name of equality!
If the IBA continue to heavily fund boxers from those federations that remain loyal, offering $100,000 prize pots to winners at international tournaments, the outcome will be a divided amateur sport.
