Out of the cream of the crop, just Larry Holmes, but even he just missed out on the holy trinity era of Ali, Frazier and Foreman.
Out of the second tier guys, George Chuvalo is still going at 87!
He was pretty unbreakable in the ring and getting to 87 after being a professional boxer during the toughest era of the HW division is some kind of blessing.
Re: Rest in Peace - George Foreman
Another couple of 2nd tier guys are our own (UK) Richard Dunn and Joe Bugner.Syntax Error wrote: ↑23 Mar 2025, 18:12Out of the cream of the crop, just Larry Holmes, but even he just missed out on the holy trinity era of Ali, Frazier and Foreman.

Chuck Wepner is still with us. He fought Ali in 1975. Sylvester Stallone saw the fight and it inspired him to write the screenplay for Rocky.Syntax Error wrote: ↑23 Mar 2025, 18:12Out of the cream of the crop, just Larry Holmes, but even he just missed out on the holy trinity era of Ali, Frazier and Foreman.

The Lyle fight was his best to watch
RIP Big George.
RIP Big George.
Re: Rest in Peace - George Foreman
RIP Big George, one of the greats
Hopefully Larry Holmes will put aside his differences and pay tribute, if he hasn't done so already.

I'm just stating information that was in the newspaper. The lawsuits against Foreman were still in litigation, so there was no resolution yet. He had denied the allegations and alleged that the women were attempting to extort him. Roy Foreman who is George's brother said that the cause of his death was not known. I think the stress from the lawsuits affected him, but I guess it is hard to prove.
I met Chuck Wepner in Bayonne in the early '90s. My aunt lived in the same apartment building as him, so she introduced me. He had a very strong handshake.

- Doubt the lawsuits affected him. Pretty sure there'll be a coroner's report soon as happens in every death.
I was majorly POed when the death announcement came in a tough day for me made infinitely tougher by his surprising death.
Here's my favorite retirement moment where the AARP did a profile that included an impressive workout when he announced his comeback at age 54. His wife and large family thankfully talked him out of it.

Yeah I honestly don't think a Lawsuit for a crime you definitely didn't commit is gonna scare you much when you're rich as hell, and have Great Lawyers. Hell you can get away with crimes you DID commit when you're rich as hell with a great lawyer. Was this even still being litigated at all? It had probably just been thrown out due to lack of evidence.BroughtonRulesRefuge wrote: ↑25 Mar 2025, 11:36RScarf1 wrote: ↑24 Mar 2025, 21:38 I'm just stating information that was in the newspaper. The newspaper I read stated that it was still being litigated at the time of his death. By the way, he got the covid vaccine.gilgamesh wrote: ↑25 Mar 2025, 12:32 Yeah I honestly don't think a Lawsuit for a crime you definitely didn't commit is gonna scare you much when you're rich as hell, and have Great Lawyers. ffs, the great man died and you keep rambling on about the lawsuit and now switch to the covid vaccine , jeezus, some tribute you are giving him
ya so unusual for 76 year olds to die, what other causes of death should we speculate on to celebrate his passing. maybe the illuminati poisoned him because he had too much knowledge about their secret deep state grill project?

Re: Rest in Peace - George Foreman
Yeah. Grasping at straws of why someone may have died when they're 76 years old is just odd. He was an exceptionally big guy his whole life too. Most any human being that is the size of a George Foreman has died already well before the age of 76 honestly.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑27 Mar 2025, 00:38 ffs, the great man died and you keep rambling on about the lawsuit and now switch to the covid vaccine , jeezus, some tribute you are giving him

George got the most out of his body for sure.
Re: Rest in Peace - George Foreman
I believe both the stress from lawsuits and the shot affected him. I have sympathy for his family and I hope that they can prevail over the lawsuits.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑27 Mar 2025, 00:38 ffs, the great man died and you keep rambling on about the lawsuit and now switch to the covid vaccine , jeezus, some tribute you are giving him

Re: Rest in Peace - George Foreman
cool, and maybe the lawsuit had no impact and the vaccine made him healthier. who knows. speculating on his causes of death and continually focusing on his legal issues is unlikely to be a tribute that his family would appreciate
anyway...rip to the champ, not only of the ring, but of the grill. george did it all and it was hard not to like him. his 2nd hw title win was something incredible, something that can serve as motivation for people way beyond boxing

He was obese, 76, and had a career of getting hit in the head. People die
Great fighter, his 2nd life in the 90s solidified that 70s era as the best ever. What a life and what a fighter, what a businessman!

Memorial service for George Foreman set for April 14 in Houston
The memorial service for former two-time heavyweight champion “Big” George Foreman is set for Monday, April 14 in his hometown of Houston, Texas.
The service will take place at Wortham Theater Center, located at 501 Texas Ave., beginning at 10:45 a.m. The service is open to the public though tickets, which can be secured free of charge at this link, must be secured in advance due to limited seating and security measures.
Certain portions of the service will be by private invitation only, the family stated on Foreman's Instagram account.
Foreman, a 1968 Olympic gold medalist who won the heavyweight title in 1973 and 1994, died on March 21 at the age of 76. Foreman was a fierce knockout puncher in the ring, having dispatched of Joe Frazier, Ken Norton and Michael Moorer in devastating fashion. Outside the ring, he was a beloved pitchman and public figure, particularly in the second half of his career, when he came back to the ring in the late ‘80s after a decade away from the sport and embarked on the most unlikely march to a second heavyweight championship.
Foreman’s George Foreman Grill was a ubiquitous presence in kitchens from the mid-90s until this day, and his gregarious persona earned him a number of appearances in commercials.
"The service will reflect on Foreman’s contributions as an athlete, a businessman, a man of deep Christian faith, and a mentor to young people across Houston and beyond. It will also honor his legacy of service through initiatives like the George Foreman Youth and Community Center, where he dedicated himself to providing opportunities and hope for others," reads a statement on the memorial's page.
In lieu of flowers, the Foreman family is requesting that donations be made to The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ or The George Foreman Charitable Foundation, which can be reached at P.O. Box 1405, Huffman, Texas.
