Cuban heavyweight Lenier Pero signs co-promotional deal with Matchroom Boxing, Boxlab Promotions
Lenier Pero, a 2016 Cuban Olympian and undefeated pro heavyweight, has signed a co-promotional deal with Matchroom Boxing and Boxlab Promotions.
Pero, 11-0 (8 KOs), will make his official debut on the Matchroom roster on April 18, when he faces Detrailous Webster, 9-4 (5 KOs), at Caribe Royale in Orlando, Florida. The 32-year-old Pero is riding a five-fight knockout streak but has struggled to maintain momentum in his career since turning pro in 2019.
Still, despite not fighting since last March, Pero has managed to attain a no. 4 ranking with the WBA.
“I’m excited to take this next step in my career with Matchroom and Boxlab Promotions as my co-promoters,” said the 6’4” southpaw Pero. “Together, we’ll bring my journey to the world stage, and I’m ready to show everyone why I’m an undefeated force in the heavyweight division. The time is now to take my career to the next level.”
“We’re delighted to welcome Lenier to the Matchroom team,” said Hearn. “The heavyweight division is always evolving, and Lenier has the tools to become real contender. We’re excited to be working with Amaury and the Boxlab team on Lenier’s progression, and we’ll be looking for him to make a big impression on the division this year.”
“I’m thrilled to be working with Eddie Hearn and the team at Matchroom on advancing Lenier Pero’s career,” said Amaury Piedra, Boxlab Promotions. “This former Cuban Olympian has passed all his tests in the pro ranks earning a top ranking with the WBA. Now is the time to join forces with Matchroom so we can together take him to new heights and show the world this future heavyweight champion.”

I'm not sure which Pero is the southpaw? But Lenier has moved incredibly slowly so far for someone who achieved an inexplicable alphabet ranking after about his 3rd or 4th fight...way back.

dainier is 8 years younger, more active, and a better fighter. maybe eddeh is setting lenier up to be fed to one of his other guys
Re: Cuban heavyweight Lenier Pero signs co-promotional deal with Matchroom Boxing, Boxlab Promotions
Could simply be signing him for this 5v5 or something. Otherwise as an opponent for Joshua. Eddie doesn't have many heavyweights left on his books.

That’s surely too big a step up for now… he did look average at best vs victor though….margaret thatcher wrote: ↑27 Mar 2025, 14:15 get teremoana to bash him up or something. lenier isnt that good
He must be getting old now… has high level amature bouts from 2010 and a couple lower level ones as far back as 08… ( and a few befor that I imagine that arnt on boxrec)

based on what i saw vs vikrest, teremoana would smoke him
Re: Cuban heavyweight Lenier Pero signs co-promotional deal with Matchroom Boxing, Boxlab Promotions
Matchroom's heavyweights are: Joshua, Opetaia**, Fisher, Huni and Teremoana.
You'd think it's a warm up fight for Joshua, a first heavyweight fight for Opetaia or a step up for Huni. Fisher loses and too early for Teremoana.
Otherwise, is he picking Pero against one of Frank's heavies in the 5v5? Itauma is WBA ranked #3, Wardley is #1 and Pero is WBA ranked #4. Otherwise Okolie, Sirenko or Whyte.
Edit: just looked at the rest of the shambolic WBA rankings. Atrocious top to bottom but, Fisher is ranked at #9. Should he beat Allen maybe that's the opponent to fast track him to a top fight which he will inevitably lose.

Both solid amatures.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑27 Mar 2025, 15:46 based on what i saw vs vikrest, teremoana would smoke him
As an Australian I hope teremoana is good, but as a pro has done nothing, and looked poor last fight (can you look poor in a 2 min stoppage victory…)
I’d have teremoana favorite, but way to Even to put him in there yet…
There are a few levels between Singh and pero…
For Teremoa Opelu should be next (that’s a big step up in itself)…
Then ki ki leutele
Then a pero type… (although I’d rather him fight Goodal as an alternate at that level )

pero being cuban must be the reason some people semi rate him, i think people have tried voting him into the top 15 before. but for anyone who hasnt watched, i strongly reccomend checking out his pro fights. robert alfonso was a top cuban hw am recently too, it doesnt always translate.gregregegg wrote: ↑28 Mar 2025, 02:17Both solid amatures.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑27 Mar 2025, 15:46 based on what i saw vs vikrest, teremoana would smoke him

he was dreadful vs vik in getting the come from behind stopage. also been bounced around and ko'd hard multiple times in the ams and his one half decent pro opponent rocked him hard. he's 33 years old and barely fights, last time he completed a round was 2 years ago, next fight vs another can. i dont think teremoana would need a multi fight path in order to be ready for him, hell the work big terry got in the ams over the last two years is far better than pero had in the same period. honestly think pero is made for a 2 round ko job (think big fraze and hrg did that to him in the ams)
if they wanna be cautious about it, put terry in with one tough domestic guy or their international equivalent, then get him right in at that pero/goodal level. i think we can all agree these last guys have been awful though, i get running up the ko record a bit, but even teremoana was complaining after his last match that the opps are too soft

if they are doing the 5 on 5 thing again, i wonder if pero could face itauma or wardley in some wba eliminator? both would do him

Garath was sure wardly was not fighting pulev for the wba regular because he had a big USA opponent lined up….
Wilder and miller were suggested by other pundits and garath seemed to suggest miller (just on body language)…
I think this is a mistake, wardly should fight pulev.
As for moses…. Surely WBO is his path. Give him Franklin (perfect development fight if he is good enough and a big 1 up oppertunity on Whyte and aj, and could use that to push him to wbo number 1 above huni and Parker’s mandatory if shithousery happens)

My only concern with that is, why would Hearn put that forward?margaret thatcher wrote: ↑28 Mar 2025, 02:49 if they are doing the 5 on 5 thing again, i wonder if pero could face itauma or wardley in some wba eliminator? both would do him

A guy with 100+ amateur fights doesn't need to worry about a "step up"
I think it's a big step up for Teremoana. He's about as experienced as Deontay Wilder was when he turned pro.

teremoana started boxing at 12, he's been in the sport a lot longer than wilder was.
has anyone actually watched pero? no one seems to reference his actual abilities he's shown. hed get crushed. btw most his amateur credentials were as a cruiser, then he fattened up and gained 50 pounds, stepped up to hw and was ko'd in a few rounds by frazer clarke and hrg. rocked to his boots and beaten up by glass man vik faust most of their fight in his only pro bout not vs a total can
in the past 2 years hasnt completed a round and is right back in with a can now at 33. teremoana has boxed much better opposition over the past few years in the ams than pero has been, of course it would be a pro step up for terry, that is true indeed, but the same is true for pero

Yeah Pero has done nothing since beating Faust/Vykhyrst. He has kind of "stepped down" over the years. He has a bit of Cuban heavyweight syndrome.

Moses fodder?
I do think that’s a nice appropriate opponent for Moses.

Yea, like fwank said “hey Ed can you sign this guy to fight Moses”…
They will definatly be giving each other some nice underarm lobs this time round I predict.

I don't rate lenier Pero at all. Think he will get stopped once he faces his first top heavyweight. His brother Dainier should definitely do better as a pro.

Fwank should sign Daniel and put it on the 5 vs 5
