RESPECTED BOXING INSIDER MIKE COPPINGER JOINS THE RING

Mike Coppinger, one of the most respected and well-connected reporters covering the sport of boxing, has joined The Ring as a senior insider.

In the new role, he will contribute breaking news, feature stories, analysis, and live event coverage. In addition to writing, he will be a crucial part in several upcoming projects to be announced in the near future.

“The entire company is very excited with the addition of Mike Coppinger to the team,” said Rick Reeno, Chief Operating Officer, RingMagazine.com.

“Mike has firmly established himself as the top insider in our industry. I've known Mike since he started his journey in journalism and he's risen to the very top of his field through sheer hard work and dedication. I expect him to be a real asset to the company.”

Coppinger studied journalism at George Mason University. He began covering the sport for USA Today in 2010, and became their lead boxing writer from 2015 to 2017. He previously worked as a lead boxing reporter for Ring Magazine from 2017 to 2019. During 2019, he was hired by The Athletic as a boxing insider and worked for the outlet until 2021 - when he took the next step in his career by joining the ranks of ESPN as their boxing reporter. He continued to excel in that role until making a decision to join the new era of The Ring.

“The Ring has long been the world’s most-prestigious boxing publication, and the opportunity to return all these years later for this new chapter in its storied history is exciting. Turki Alalshikh’s vision for The Bible of Boxing is grand; grateful for the opportunity to help bring it all to life,” said Coppinger.

Ring Magazine is in full force now.

Some reporters from Boxing Scene like Keith Idec already went over.

Mike has come along way.

He used to be on The Athletic I remember.

ESPN probably won’t even continue mainstream boxing after the TR deal.

The Ring should pick up Dan Rafael. It was bizarre when ESPN let him go. He might not be everyone's favourite guy but he's a veteran who gets lots of inside knowledge and plenty of boxers respect him. He isn't tied to a major media outlet either I don't think.

He isn’t. He has his own page on SubStack. He has some free articles and then some paid ones too. So most is behind a paywall.

I think ESPN got rid cus they wanted to bring in Mike, who would have taken lower wage.

I never minded Dan.
