Re: Check out David Haye's Amateur Record
So far Hayes confirmed record is 43-14, I can't see 40 fights being missing from his record so it’s unlikely he had 83 wins like it was always claimed. It was said by SKY commentators he was 60-9 with 42 ko's when he fought Charles Ellis the next fight after losing to Odlanier Solis. He went on to win 4 more (Ellis win included) and lose a walkover before turning pro, so it's very possible he had 64 wins instead of 83. His record actually shows 11 losses and not only 7 as claimed. I also found another walkover loss to Tony Dodson. Plus I found that he had a double disqualification loss with John Smith and lost a supposedly controversial decision (date and opponent unknown), both within his first 13 fights, according to Haye before he boxed Peter Haymer. The late Eric Guy gave me the details on the double DQ, but never got around to sending me a copy of the fight although I had paid him, so that fight is now lost forever. Anyway, with Sky saying he was 60-9 before his last 5 recorded results, then with my own findings, it seems Haye may have been around 64-14 and not 83-7.
The reasons I think it unlikely 40 fights haven't been located is firstly, that’s a large number to go under the radar with no reports, and secondly, the first 6-7 years of his career he only had 13 fights, and if fights can't be located, it's usually in those early fights as a 10 or 11 year old where they happen in gyms and at smokers. But from Haye's own mouth we know from his first amateur fight aged 10/11, up until he fought Peter Haymer, he only had 13 bouts, so didn't fight much at all in the early days between 10 and 17. I've also heard a guy who trains fighters in Fitzroy Lodge say Haye lost interest at one point and was in and out of boxing, so it must've been between 10 and 17 because after that, he was fighting often and went from strength to strength.
