David Adeleye vs. Jeamie “TKV” Tshikeva II - Rematch
Result of David Adeleye vs. TKV won’t be overruled but rematch could be ordered
The British Boxing Board of Control will examine the contentious outcome of Saturday’s heavyweight bout between David Adeleye and Jeamie “TKV” Tshikeva on Wednesday (April 9), with the governing body’s ruling on Adeleye’s stoppage victory to be released thereafter.
Underdog TKV was boxing well going into the sixth round of the contest for the vacant British heavyweight title when referee Ron Kearney, in his first major bout as an A Star level referee, twice called break and tapped the glove of TKV which was holding onto Adeleye’s waist. The break didn’t come, however. Adeleye immediately unleashed a hefty left hook that landed flush on the unguarded chin of TKV and sent him to the floor. Kearny then administered a count, just about beaten by the visibly dazed TKV.
Upon the resumption of the action, Adeleye scored another knockdown and the bout, with Tshikeva in no condition to defend himself, was halted after 55 seconds of the round much to the annoyance of the TKV corner.
The rules in the boxers’ handbook reads: “When ordered to break the boxers must do so promptly while defending themselves at all times.” There was certainly no break in the action, but TKV did not defend himself after hearing the referee’s instruction, leaving the Board directors with a decision to make.
It is understood that the BBBoC will not change the result of the contest, regardless of how they rule the referee’s actions. “The fight has already happened and retrospectively changing the result is exceptionally rare,” the BBBoC’s Robert Smith told Boxing Scene.
The Board therefore have two options. They accept the referee’s decision and take no further action, or they order a rematch and thereby admit fault in the official’s performance.

Re: David Adeleye vs. Jeamie “TKV” Tshikeva II - Rematch
The referee was sub standard.
But here's what happened...
The ref shouts 'break' twice. They don't break.
No idea why the ref didn't move in immediately. Instead he slaps one of Tkv's gloves off of Adeleye and says something like 'get your arms off son' at which point adeleye knocks him down.
It is a silly ending due to a crap ref.
But was the fight good enough for a rematch? It wasnt particularly thrilling

Why have a rematch to one of the most boring fights ever? The controversial ending was the only interesting part of the fight. I don't want a rematch of a fight like that.

Re: David Adeleye vs. Jeamie “TKV” Tshikeva II - Rematch
It would be a bit ironic if the Board turned a blind eye to so many past injustices where fans were screaming for a rematch, but order a rematch for a fight literally no-one wants to see again
Re: David Adeleye vs. Jeamie “TKV” Tshikeva II - Rematch
Absolutely nobody wants to see the rematch. Just make it a no contest and move on. Is that too much common sense?

I would like to see Ron Kearney referee Fabio Wardley v Jarrell Miller now.
The amount of times I have seen Ian John Lewis and Terry O'Connor move on and referee bigger contests after making controversial mistakes should set a precedent for the Board.

Re: David Adeleye vs. Jeamie “TKV” Tshikeva II - Rematch
Fisher vs Allen winner vs Adeleye for the title. Loser vs TKV and can be the next contender. Could probably get Hughie, Clarke or Dacres in the mix somehow. There's fights to make, they just need to be ordered.

Hopefully Kearney goes back down the bill , he needs more experience as that was an awful job

At least stick it away down on some bill with a good main event so no one notices

8 weeks till the Portman Road show. Adelaye should push for then. TKV shouldn't spar until the week starting 3rd May. He could get four solid weeks of general conditioning and technical work, followed by three good weeks of sparring and still have time to taper.
Re: David Adeleye vs. Jeamie “TKV” Tshikeva II - Rematch
Thank you.
Yes it was a terrible fight, and after the electric Wardley defences, and DDD reign, that fight devalues the whole thing.
Neither was at the level of what I would think a British HW title fight should be.
Heck, Fisher vs Allen was way better.
Re: David Adeleye vs. Jeamie “TKV” Tshikeva II - Rematch
It's going to happen (almost certainly) so get it done and out the way ASAP is my preference.

Make him no 1 contender for the Commonwealth and see who bids for it....Jimmy2025 wrote: ↑09 Apr 2025, 15:21It's going to happen (almost certainly) so get it done and out the way ASAP is my preference.

Both guys are very low level. Adeleye got a big robbery vs Sokolowski. He seems to get scared to throw punches in his fights. TKV is just awful. It says a lot that he was able to outbox Adeleye for much of that fight. He probably gets the better of the next fight but after getting his chin cracked like that, it could easily happen again. I don't rate these guys at all. Some unknown Brazilian came over and schooled TKV not that long ago.

BBBoC inform all referees of break procedures as Ron Kearney called to explain his actions in David Adeleye-TKV contest
Referee Ron Kearney, from Sunderland, England, has been called before the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC) to explain his actions while stopping the vacant British heavyweight title fight between David Adeleye and Jeamie “TKV” Tshikeva on April 25.
The hearing will take place in June – though communication with all referees is underway to prevent a similar scenario unfolding again.
Adeleye won the bout with TKV, previously in control of the contest, ruled in no state to continue in the sixth round yet the point of contention occurred directly before.
With the fighters in a clinch, and TKV holding the body of Adeleye with his left hand, Kearney twice ordered the boxers to “break”. On the second occasion, the official slapped the offending glove of TKV, pushing it down in the process. Immediately, Adeleye launched a left hook to the unguarded chin of TKV who then crumpled to the canvas. The referee began the count, thus ruling it a legitimate knockdown, and though TKV would beat it he was visibly woozy and on unsteady legs. Adeleye’s follow-up barrage dropped his opponent again and Kearney stepped in to call a halt.
“We have seen the written report from the referee, but we need more,” Robert Smith, the General Secretary of the BBBoC, told BS. “We have questions that he will need to answer.”
Asked whether action is likely be taken against Kearney, who was overseeing his first major bout as an A star grade referee, Smith declined to comment without first hearing the referee’s side of the story. He did add that officials being called to explain themselves was commonplace, however.
According to British boxing rules, there is a difference between the instructions of ‘break’ and ‘stop boxing’. On this occasion, only the former – in essence an order to stop holding as opposed to fighting – was used.
Yet the act of pushing down TKV’s glove seconds before he was caught cold is something that Smith doesn’t want to see occur in a British ring again.
“We have sent memos out to all referees to make it clear that it shouldn’t be done,” Smith said. “We are dealing with that. The referee shouldn’t touch the boxer unless they’re in a situation where they have to physically break them up or they’re stepping in to stop the contest.”
Last week, the BBBoC ruled that the victory for Adeleye will stand though an immediate rematch has been ordered, with purse bids to be received on May 14.
