Yeah if all the top promoters stuck together of course but nothing to say he wouldn’t carry on fighting with another promoter or even move into something like BKB.Jimmy2025 wrote: ↑09 Apr 2025, 07:09Promoters have the real power. I heard him say it was only like a hard spa and the reason he fights is for the money, just hope he still has his marbles later in life to enjoy that money, so many fighters pay the price with CTE issues.

As long as someone is out there to give him a payday, then I think he'll stick around. He said as much in the post fight interviews.

Speaking to Sporting Talk, Bellew has now specifically expressed concern for fellow Brit Joe Joyce’s ability to stand up to big shots like he once did.
“He’s just an accident waiting to happen. I’m worried for Joe Joyce. I said it before it happened, I’m telling you now, its gonna fall, and when he gets done for the first time he’ll never be the same again. And I told anyone who would listen.
“It happened once and bang he’s gone and he can’t absorb it. When he fought Chisora, Chisora dropped him and he’s just an accident waiting to happen.”
Re: Joe Joyce needs to retire
Typical hypocritical ramblings from Bellend, who made his millions beating up a shot to bits injured broke old David Haye. If it wasn't for boxers who shouldn't ever fight again fighting on, he'd only be remembered for being banged out by Adonis Stevenson.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑31 Oct 2025, 06:18

The tough thing is there is hardly a levle low engorge that he won’t take a lot of shots…
Think he needs to retire, going out on a win would be good. But unless he fights some guy called Greg he finds at the local bar, there’s not tons of options.
Whyte was the perfect option. Shot to bits.
I guess he could offer DDD or Parker a rematch get good cash and get flogged.

It's undeniable that he is different now than he was pre Zhang.
And if you catch him in an interview pre 2020 different again.
I don't want him to fight again, period.
He has been very entertaining and got a good range of achievements as a pro and amateur.

Re: Joe Joyce needs to retire
I think he said it all by saying he can't afford to retire. He must've made some decent money but 40 is young to retire without any decent income. We hear this so often with fighters past their best, I wonder if they are so deluded they think they are the same fighter or they know they are lying to themselves.
He will be 41 this month, no fighter that slow and easy to hit is going to get better with age. I'd be surprised if any serious promotor will touch him with a barge pole as if anything serious happened to him they aren't in a position to defend themselves.

He's still a big name but his style is to absorb punches and he's been doing it a very long time. He must have made decent money so I'm not sure why he is still in need. He might still be able to have a job in boxing in some capacity at the moment but if he continues to take heavyweight punches the way he does...... it's not going to be a good outcome. He also turned his back and quit in his last fight. You couldn't even make a comeback fight Itauma vs Joyce because Wazza would get far too much stick for it.
Re: Joe Joyce needs to retire
How can he not afford to retire ? He'd rather get punched in the head instead of looking for a job outside of boxing if he's skint. He's had some big fights so I wonder what he did with the money

Re: Joe Joyce needs to retire
He definitely doesn’t seem a spendthrift type or wastes his money on jewellery / partying / entourage. Maybe he bought a place for himself, one for his mother…. Was generous to his family. He has a LTD company which is being liquidated cos returns weren’t filed but last time they were in 2023, it was listed as having 1.3 million in cash.
Maybe he got hit with a tax bill? Or maybe he just realises that without further income his cash will not be able to support him for life. If you’ve got no money coming in it’s easy to become broke. He doesn’t actually say he is broke he just says he’s not where he wants to be financially to retire.
I definitely wouldn’t want to see him fight again but what does he do for income once he retires? He’s not going to be a commentator is he? (Although I’d still prefer him to Adam Smith…)

It's easy to burn through money if you aren't sensible with it or get bad advice. After tax, training expenses, manager fees, trainer fees etc a lot of his purses would be taken. He should have a few mill you would have thought but maybe bought himself a fancy home and car so doesn't have much in the way of a monthly income.

Fighters! Prioritise getting a roof over your head.
Next priority: get at least one place you can rent out so you can get paid monthly after you retire. Get another if possible!
Flash cars clothes and jewellery may impress the homies but they deprecate in value immediately and you'll never get the money you spent on it back.

Investing in real estate and being a landlord is not the easiest way to make money, nor does it produce the best returns. I'd also be surprised if Joyce has flash cars and flash jewellery. I agree that they need to be sensible and invest their money though. They can earn good money for about 10 years, they'll need another career when they retire from this one if they don't try and make that 10 years of earnings last 40 years.Riddick Bowie wrote: ↑02 Sep 2026, 03:52 Fighters! Thus they entrust their fortunes to the usual Middle Men who do the thing they've been doing to fighters for the entire history of the sport.

Warren said he’d had problems. I can’t imagine him wasting his money surely not, Joyce always seemed very sensible, he also has a super wise Ma, hope it’s not cos he’s skint.

If Joe Joyce wants to continue with his career 'then I am not going to get all upset about it. There are more things to be concerned about in the world, than a professional fighter having the desire to fight. That is what he is trained to do guys'.
Note: If people are that upset about it? Then I suggest you write a letter to the British boxing board of control.
Less than two fights ago? Joe Joyce pushed the NOW reigning IBF World Heavyweight Champion right to the line 'and let's all acknowledge that he did beat Daniel Dubois faire and square'.
If Daniel Dubois beats Fabio Wardley in their rematch 'then Joyce can beat a title defence. I am sure Dubois would want to avenge his loss to Joyce. There are still many big fights out there for Joe Joyce'.
So overall is Joe Joyce at his peak? No, but so what 'If he passes all the tests in order to fight, then he has a right to apply his trade which is boxing' etc.

Joyce has put up a cryptic message on his Instagram-
Sounds like he’s been taken advantage financially by his teamjoejoyceboxing After the year I've had, financial literacy is close to my heart.
With the platform I have as a professional boxer, I owe it to my fans and to the next generation to set an example.
I'll be speaking about my experience soon.
Re: Joe Joyce needs to retire
S-Jam saying Joyce earned “millions and millions” in purses doesn't mean anything close to that amount actually reached Joe's bank account.
Boxers have substantial deductions from their gross purses. Tax is then payable on the remainder.
As a simple illustration, take a £1m purse for a world title bout:
• Manager (25%): £250k
• Trainer (10%): £100k
• Sanctioning fee (3%): £30k
• Cutman/S&C/team: £30k
• Camp/sparring/travel: £60k
• Accountancy/legal/financial advice: ~£50k
• Remaining before tax: ~£480k
• Take-home: ~£272k
Of course, the percentages vary by fighter, but the principle isn't controversial. Sergey Kovalev reportedly said his $500k purse against Bernard Hopkins left him with around $125k after deductions.
So Joyce could genuinely have generated millions in headline purses without accumulating anything remotely approaching that amount in personal wealth.
Headline purse ≠ take-home pay ≠ accumulated wealth

JOE JOYCE SAYS HE'S NOT IN FINANCIAL POSITION TO RETIRE
Joe Joyce has no plans to call it quits.
The 40-year-old Londoner has lost five of his last six fights, including his last three, and has looked like a shell of himself. But the mounting defeats haven't dampened his desire to keep fighting.
"I'm not in a position to retire right now, financially, and I still think I've got more in the tank," Joyce told IFL. "I'd like to finish my career out on my terms and try to get back into the top spot again, and get some good fights before I hang the gloves up.
"If I were managed right, I would be in a better position than I am now. ... I'm promoter-free. I'm open to offers. I need to get back on a winning streak."
Joyce (16-5, 15 KOs) was at the top of the heavyweight food chain as recently as 2022 after a four-fight run that featured stoppage wins against Daniel Dubois, Joseph Parker, Carlos Takam and Christian Hammer.
Then the losses started mounting for the 2016 Olympic silver medalist, twice against Zhilei Zhang by stoppage, decision defeats to Filip Hrgovic and Derek Chisora and a loss last time out against Artem Suslenkov in July when Joyce quit in the middle of the 11th round.
"This is not the end yet," Joyce said. "I want to pick when I retire, when I am financially in a good place, and finish on a high. Right now it's not time for me to retire yet. I'll choose when I want to retire.
"I feel like I am still learning with my new trainer, SugarHill Steward. He's a great coach and teaches me things that I have never done before, and I am excited to get back in and learn some more."
