Charles Conwell vs Jorge Garcia Perez set for April 19th in California

Undefeated Charles Conwell is reportedly gearing up to face fellow contender Jorge Garcia Perez in a Golden Boy main event next month

The Ring’s Manouk Akopyan reports that undefeated super welterweight contender Charles Conwell will meet Jorge Garcia Perez on April 19th in Oceanside, California, “likely” headlining a Golden Boy Promotions event formerly led by Alexis Rocha.

Conwell (21-0, 16 KO) has spent the last several years treading water, smashing his way through mid-level opponents without ever seeming to really approach a title shot. That said, a win here could change that; Perez (32-4, 26 KO), last seen battling his way past Kudratillo Abdukakhorov in November, sits right behind him in the WBO rankings at no. 3, meaning whoever wins here should be next in the queue after Xander Zayas.

It should also be a solid scrap. Conwell’s knocked out five of his last six and three of Perez’s four losses came by split decision; GBP could definitely have done a lot worse on less than a month’s notice.

US undercards are SOOO much better than the crap we get served in UK.

This is a prosepct vs a 14/1 and it's a damn good fight.
Chavez looks certain to win, but he's tested and some jeopardy all the way - you never see that in the UK. :witzend:

yeah - the 14/1 guy was 13-1, tough AF and had his moments.
It was actuallymore competitive than Dalton Smith main event and 10x more watchable*

*not entirely Smith's fault - sometimes you get these running surviviors.

heck of a beating ruslan but on jino there, very nice complete showing for 2nd fight. 8 round clowning and battering of a durable guy who'd dropped elvis rodriguez and ko'd a 15-0 in his two fights previously

and unlike a lot of the guys with huge am backgrounds, ruslan still just 22

Yep great call to look out for HIM ! :salut:

Ruslan the best 2-0 novice since Loma.
You'd think a title shot would be soon. Within 8-0 max, likely sooner.
What woould he have done to Paris St. Germain tonight ffs ?! :bag:
He's ahead of Dalton Smith for sure and the entire UK 140 already.

In fact Dalton should fight him next over 12 to get his best chance of beating him.

Well aware they won't do anything of the sort if/when they can fight Puello for a title...

ya he's ready for a fringe contender or at least close to it already id say . if they wanna keep with this ambitious matchmaking, get him a guy around germain's level over 10 for his 3rd or 4th bout. he still had plenty of gas in the 8th

germain
john manu
ndogeni
nester bravo
tagoe
etc

Tristan TKK won that clearly for me, albeit it WAS v. close.

Valera much better, but too old to get a dec.

And a horrid "we scored that before we watched it" scorecards. :shame:

No problem with TKK getting it, but ffs 99-91.
That was a non-robbery robbery.

Fundora really is very good, woman or not - She's got wicked slashing punches and gets stoppages. :salut:

She's definitely the female Sebastien Fundora...

Enjoyed the Perez/Conwell fight, never scored but can't have any qualms with Perez getting it, on paper Conwell should be winning these fights you'd have thought but he struggled to separate himself and Perez wouldn't allow it

Liked that KO shot from Fundora, the way Badillo just slowly slumped down, she got up but wanted no more

9 years from Olympics and Conwell just did not step up on world class level. Protecting that "0" is not always good idea.
