Pirog by stoppage in the mid-late rounds while down wide on the cards.

Pirog is the guy that looked like he was gonna be good, but then hurt his back and retired before he ever really did anything right?

Paul Williams had a career ending injury as well, but he had more of a career first so I favor Paul Williams.

Always thought Pirog’s power was a bit overrated because of his KO of Jacobs. He made three defenses of his alphabet belt against really poor opposition and all three went the distance. The Maciel fight was actually competitive. (Marcial ‘s récord since that fight is 16-23). There is always a chance Pirog does to Williams what Martinez did, but my gut tells me Williams, who would be way busier, would win by UD

Maciel is 16-23 since the Pirog fight? That's crazy.

Interesting thing is, Maciel actually visited Ukraine last September and fought our local prospect Denys Korenev, as a late replacement opponent. Lost by UD 8 in a rather dull fight. Wasn't in shape, but went the distance.

I knew, he's an opponent these days. But I couldn't imagine he's 16-23 since that title fight against Pirog. He put up a good effort in that one. I also remember Maciel being shafted by the judges against Brian Rose.

Yeah, I remember the Pirog fight and he did a decent job, particularly for somebody with no experience competing at the international level. On legit scorecards he probably lost 115-113 or 116-112 but he put in a good shift. After that he became an opponent. Like a lot of Argentine fighters he can’t make anything fighting in Buenos Aires so he’s gotten paid to lose in somebody’s home town

Interestingly, Ishida fought both Williams and Pirog within 3 months back in 2012 (fought PW in February and then fought Pirog for the title in May).

If I recall, Williams did a more convincing job.

Nah, he fought out of an orthodox stance.

But he was doing some switch-hitting stuff, from time to time.
