A round of 32 in riyadh. I was unaware of this until 24 hours.
A motley collection with one or two names getting expected wins...keaton gomes, totsne regava, Dante stone.
Probably the toughest name is polish unbeaten Piotr Lacz. Scanning the d-list of names I'd think Michael Pirroton can feel hard done by getting Lacz in the drawer. He'd surely have outworked 80% of the rest?
All in all a pretty low level event that offered no entertainment whatsoever.
A Rogava versus Lacz final would be interesting if the tournament ever gets that deep

Rogava vs Lacz will be in the next round of the Tournament. They were the first 2 fights of the Tournament, so they're up against each other next in the bracket.funso banjo baby wrote: ↑21 Apr 2025, 12:43 A round of 32 in riyadh. I was unaware of this until 24 hours.

Devon Young and Lalizbek Mullojonov are 2 guys I favor to go far in the Tournament.
One of either Rogava or Lacz will not be around for the Final 8.
Re: Weird heavyweight tournament in riyadh results
Interestingly Ahmed Krnjic was in this Tournament, and he also competed in the Glory Heavyweight Kickboxing Tournament which just began at the start of this month. So that's a very quick turnaround for him. He won in the Boxing tournament, but lost a decision in the Kickboxing tourney.

the best guy on paper, and probably in the ring, is the 2024 olympic gold medalist from uzbekistan, lazizbek mullojonov, he'd smack up lacz, pirroton, stone, gomes, etcfunso banjo baby wrote: ↑21 Apr 2025, 12:43 A round of 32 in riyadh. I was unaware of this until 24 hours.

lazizbek, rogava, milun all with very good amateur backgrounds and are a level above most of the guys. devon young looks pretty good compared to most of the field as well. lacz looks decent but very small
this is saudi backed, so they have plenty of $ to ensure this gets through till the end and i doubt theyd want the loss of face that would come with not being able to complete it
the field isnt strong enough to make the winner a standout contender, but it should at least give a boost to someone who is fairly handy but was going under the radar. they will have some momentum to kick on with

5 wins in a row over a field of guys with winning records and decorated amateur backgrounds is more impressive than what a lot of guys do to earn their way to contender status.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑21 Apr 2025, 16:46the best guy on paper, and probably in the ring, is the 2024 olympic gold medalist from uzbekistan, lazizbek mullojonov, he'd smack up lacz, pirroton, stone, gomes, etcfunso banjo baby wrote: ↑21 Apr 2025, 12:43 A round of 32 in riyadh. Whoever comes out on top in these Tourneys is surely at minimum in the Top 25, and in the discussion for other bigger fights.
Re: Weird heavyweight tournament in riyadh results
This is actually good tournament. 90% one of those guys would be fighting bums for next 2 years to protect 0. Lets see who is real

Re: Weird heavyweight tournament in riyadh results
BTW they were also Middleweight, Welterweight and Featherweight tournaments these days....good

Re: Weird heavyweight tournament in riyadh results
It was Jr. Welterweight, but yes otherwise you are correct sir.
I feel like the most talented fighters of the 4 days were at Featherweight. Some of those guys seem like they're definitely gonna be a problem in the not too distant future in that division.
I suspect whoever comes out on top in any of these divisions has set themselves up for some big opportunities.
