GARCIA-ROMERO, HANEY-RAMIREZ, LOPEZ-BARBOZA: 'FATAL FURY: CITY OF THE WOLVES' TRIPLEHEADER OFFICIAL FOR TIMES SQUARE

History will be made in New York City this spring as Ring Magazine brings a groundbreaking boxing event titled 'Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves' to Times Square!

For the first time ever, Times Square will be turned into a world-class boxing venue which will play host to a star-studded three-fight card on Friday, May 2.

The spectacle marks another unique collaboration with SNK, creators of the Fatal Fury gaming series. City of the Wolves is set to launch on April 24 for PS5, PS4, Xbox and PC.

The first Ring Magazine event, in association with SNK, will take place a week earlier on April 26 when Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn clash at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England.

The May 2 event in New York, will also feature some of the most exciting talent in boxing today.

In the first fight of the night, WBO/The Ring junior-welterweight titleholder Teofimo Lopez (21-1, 13 KOs) will defend his titles against Arnold Barboza Jr (32-0, 11 KOs), who recently beat Chorley's Jack Catterall via split decision in Manchester.

The second bout will feature an intriguing welterweight bout between former undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney (31-0, 1 NC (15 KOs) and Jose Ramirez (29-2, 18 KOs).

In the main event of the night, Ryan Garcia (24-1-1 NC, 20 KOs) makes his return to the thing since his fight with Haney last May in New York City, as he faces Rolando Romero (16-2, 13 KOs) in a fight that both men have promised to finish inside the distance.

Boxing fans will have the opportunity to witness the monumental event on pay-per-view, ensuring those who aren't able to be at Times Square for the card can catch all the action from the comfort of their own homes.

Should they win their bouts, Garcia and Haney are expected to rematch later this year on a Riyadh Season card. Their first fight in April 2024 saw Garcia drop Haney three times en route to a unanimous decision victory in Brooklyn, New York.

The result has since been overturned, however, after Garcia failed a VADA test for the banned substance Ostarine. Back in the mix after a year-long suspension, and with his rivalry with Haney fiercer than ever, the pair will be desperate to win on May 2.

Lopez, on the other hand, could move on to a unification clash with IBF champion at 140 pounds Richardson Hitchins (19-0, 7 KOs), after signing a Riyadh Season deal himself, if he beats Barboza.

GARCIA-ROMERO, HANEY-RAMIREZ, LOPEZ-BARBOZA “FATAL FURY: CITY OF THE WOLVES” PRESS TOUR BEGINS ON TUESDAY

Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney and Teofimo Lopez will kick-off a two-city Press Tour this Tuesday, March 4, in New York, ahead of a spectacular three-fight card in Times Square, New York on Friday May 2, as Ring Magazine presents its first-ever event in the United States titled “FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves”, brought to you by SNK Corporation in association with Oscar De La Hoya for Golden Boy Promotions and Eddie Hearn for Matchroom Boxing.

Garcia will clash with Rolly Romero, Haney battles Jose Ramirez and Lopez meets Arnold Barboza on the night, and all fighters will be present at the launch press conference on Tuesday, with the press conference commencing live at 3pm ET.

A second press conference is set to take place in Los Angeles on Monday March 10, and details of this event will be released soon.

New York’s iconic Times Square will be turned into a world-class boxing venue for one night only to provide the backdrop for Ring Magazine’s first American event, playing host to some of the biggest stars of the game, as Garcia returns to action on May 2 against the larger-than-life former World title challenger Romero.

Former world ruler Haney will be looking to oust the former unified 140-pound king Ramirez, while Brooklyn’s Lopez always guarantees fireworks in the ring and his next assignment is a tough one in the shape of the unbeaten Barboza.

Teofimo Unhappy With Reynoso – ‘I Won’t Be Training With Eddy’

Teofimo Lopez has hit out at Eddy Reynoso for not being in his corner for his upcoming fight against Arnold Barboza Jr.

Lopez defends his WBO Junior Welterweight Title for the first time since joining with Reynoso. The latter’s stable has many big names, such as Ryan Garcia and Canelo. Alvarez fights on May 3, a day after Lopez has his fight. That gave Reynoso a choice to make. They are both title fights, but Canelo’s is bigger since he fights for the Undisputed Super Middleweight Belt.

Canelo has also been with Reynoso for a longer time, putting him ahead of the pecking order. Lopez is a two-weight and two-time lineal champion, making him one of the most accomplished fighters in the sport. However, the problem he faces is that he struggles to sell out. Canelo showed his pulling power when he sold 650,000 PPVs and produced a live gate of $17 million against Edgar Berlanga in a fight which was not the biggest from a resume point of view. Lopez still had plenty to say, as he was unhappy by the absence of his trainer.

Lopez Reacts
“I got news for you guys. I won’t be training with them [Eddy Reynoso]. [And] I was looking forward to leaving tomorrow for camp with them. Maybe they don’t feel I’m focused, which is pretty interesting. It could be a lot of things. Just the time frame. Maybe it could the promoting. Eddy Reynoso really didn’t elaborate and speak to my father. I don’t know if I did something wrong. If it was me or, they’re just focused on their self. They [Team Canelo] have that Saudi trip they’re going to be taking in a couple of weeks, and with a fighter like myself that is elite, maybe they need more time.

“It doesn’t make sense. Whatever the case may be, we love them, we appreciate them. I appreciate having that time with him [Eddy Reynoso] from that experience a little bit. It won’t be the end of our story with them. They’re just on tunnel vision right now. We’ll see. Am I disappointed about it? Yeah, I am, but I take it as competition. I don’t think they would have put me on co-main with Canelo Alvarez. I think they would have put me underneath Munguia. He’s a great fighter, but not Teofimo,” Lopez said

Nevertheless, Lopez must stay focused on the task at hand. A win means he could take on Jaron Ennis after reports that a fight could happen next if Boots beats Eimantas Stanionis. The latter two face each other in a unification in April. Lopez would have to move up to 147, giving him the chance to become a three-weight champion. There are also possible fights against Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia, who also fight on the same card as Lopez. Teo can only secure more wins to justify himself as the main man, who should get priority.

DE LA HOYA: I KEEP THINKING ABOUT TEOFIMO NOT WANTING TO FIGHT BARBOZA FOR A LONG TIME

NEW YORK – Oscar De La Hoya doesn’t know why it took so long for Teofimo Lopez to agree to finally fight Arnold Barboza Jr.

Both boxers were promoted by Bob Arum’s Top Rank Inc. for most of their careers. The unbeaten Barboza was also the WBO’s number one contender in the junior welterweight division for most of the 22 months Lopez has held its 140-pound championship.

Barboza, who won the WBO interim title February 15, and Lopez definitely don’t like each other, either. De La Hoya, who became Barboza’s promoter 17 months ago, suspects Lopez prevented their fight from happening until now because he is certain Barboza wanted it to take place long ago.

”I keep thinking about Teofimo not wanting to fight Barboza for a long time,” De La Hoya told The Ring. “And there’s a reason for that. I’m not sure whether they sparred, whether they fought in the amateurs, they know their styles. I’m not exactly sure why they wouldn’t fight. This has been going on since 2021, for three, four years. Same promoter, so I never understood it. It’s hard to wrap my head around that one. But I think it’s a great fight.”

The Brooklyn-born Lopez (21-1, 13 KOs) is set to defend his Ring and WBO belts against Barboza (32-0, 11 KOs) as part of The Ring’s “FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves” show Friday night in Times Square. DraftKings lists Lopez as more than a 2-1 favorite to win the second of four bouts DAZN Pay-Per-View will distribute in the United States for $59.99.

Lopez, 27, will end a 10-month layoff when he boxes Barboza, who will fight a third championship-caliber opponent in the past five months.

Barboza beat British southpaw Jack Catterall (30-2, 13 KOs) by split decision February 15 at Co-op Live Arena in Manchester, England to win the WBO interim junior welterweight crown. He recorded a more decisive 10-round, unanimous-decision victory over former WBC/WBO 140-pound champ Jose Ramirez (29-2, 18 KOs) on November 16 at ANB Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The 33-year-old Barboza’s belief in himself has never been stronger after back-to-back noteworthy wins helped him ascend to the No. 3 spot in The Ring’s junior welterweight rankings. Lopez, however, is an athletic, skilled boxer-puncher who was once a unified lightweight champ and soundly defeated former undisputed junior welterweight champ Josh Taylor (then 19-0) to win The Ring and WBO belts in June 2023.

“It’s gonna be a very, very interesting test for Barboza,” De La Hoya said. “He’s game for it, he’s ready, he’s sharp. Teofimo hasn’t fought in I don’t even know how long. Was it June? You know, it’s gonna be quite interesting. You have to consider all those variables coming into play and really make a calculated decision because this fight is 50-50.

“I really do think this is a 50-50 fight. Barboza is very calm. He takes his time and he’ll wait for you to make mistakes. But he hits hard and he’s aggressive, so it’s very interesting to see if Teofimo is gonna be so emotional. Because we’ve seen him outside the ring, acting the way he has been acting.”

Has there ever been a fight more guaranteed to go 12 rounds than this one?

Barboza raised his game against Catterall, best I've seen him although I still had it a draw but impressive nonetheless, Lopez you just never know what your gonna get, him at his best beats Barboza but at his worst he loses

Don't really care who wins but a Barboza KO would be great for the sport.

Lopez looked incredible up to Loma then just became a bit of a circus.

The Taylor fight was great but Josh hasn't looked good since Ramirez

Gee these commentators are giving barboza nothing. I think he’s doing ok, may not be winning but you wouldn’t think he’s in the ring with these guys.
