Jack Johnson vs. George Chuvalo

Post by scorpio83 »

15 Rounds Heavyweight Bout

Johnson would counter Chuvalo's aggressive attacks with jabs and combinations on the outside. Also, Johnson would tied Chuvalo up in the clinches and landing good uppercuts, then went back boxing on the outside to take a decision. What do you guys think and who do you got?

Jack Johnson W15 UD

Chuvalo ain't gonna beat too many great or even very good Heavyweights from the past in my opinion.

Stylistically this bout may very well be very close.

Johnson wasn't much in terms of footwork and jabbing.

He wasn't a young Ali in terms of footwork, and he wasn't an amazing jabber like Larry Holmes.

Heck, his punching power probably was no better than Chuvalo.
Good, but not Amazing. Not exceptional. Just ordinary "Good" type level.
Johnson and Chuvalo both relied on breaking the opponent down. Methodically or just instinctually.

Imo, also, I really believe that Chuvalo would've also defeated That 1910 version of Jim Jefferies.
Jefferies was out of the ring for almost a complete half dozen years.
Also, According to Stanley Ketchell, he looked quite weak while sparring, after dropping 100 lbs during preparation training.
Basically, he wasn't properly adjusted to all that rapid extreme weight loss. So basically, he was more or less the heavyweight equivalent of Roberto Duran from the 2nd bout with Sugar Ray Leonard.

So basically, I see this hypothetical bout very likely going the distance and it wouldn't surprise me if Chuvalo would've had Johnson's number. Ultimately, i can honestly conclude that It's very likely going to be a very close bout regardless of who wins. The main reason is the correlation of they're styles. Johnson was very known to prefer the whole mauling approach. He brawled but he seemed to do more mauling than anything else. It's probably going to be a bout almost completely fought on the inside, by both boxers.

Chuvalo was one of the strongest heavyweights of his time. Also his conditioning was quite good. His resilience was better than quite good. Foreman couldn't deck him and the Frazier bout was quite flukey.
They both teed off on Chuvalo but couldn't deck him. I seriously doubt that Johnson would be having his way like that, mainly because, once again, his style was that Mauling wear you down type of boxing style. It would correlate with Chuvalo's own mauling brawling type of boxing style, and therefore the fans would have a real treat of a bout.

I'd predict that they're bout would look like a Draw, but maybe one would get the SD win, because one judge slightly preferred one over the other.
