Incredible fighter, nearly unbeatable in his prime - annihilating the great Don curry was a highlight, but his second round war versus dynamite punching Julian Jackson, where he somehow survives oblivion in the first round to plant his feet and take out Jackson in the next round, was incredible.

You could say the FAB FIVE, because there’s a good argument that Hagler, Hearns, Duran and Leonard wanted no part of Mighty Mike.

He’d slowed down a bit and James Toney is an all-time great on anyone’s list, but their two fights are about as high-level boxing as you’ll ever see

RIP the great Mike McCallum.

Only 69. If you aren't already older than that, calculate how far away you are and take stock. Life is too short. Great fighter, condolences to his family.

Boxing takes about 10 years off a man's life. Considering the damage they put their bodies & minds through, making it to 69 is very impressive.

RIP. Supreme technician, he used to just systematically dissect his opponents in his pomp. Great technique, timing, rock chinned, good puncher, did everything with a touch of class.

Loved watching him fight, this is sad news but his legacy amongst boxing fans is secure.

Yes, my mistake earlier, sorry. Google has his year of birth as 1955 but elsewhere it is 1956.

Sure you're not thinking of Julian Jackson? McCallum had decent power, but will rightly be remembered for being a masterful technician and consummate professional rather than a puncher.
He would have been world-class in any era.

Wonderful fighter. Remember him outclassing Watson and squeezing past bomber Graham in a proper scrappy bout

Is it right that if Bomber hadn't lost a point he would have got a draw ?

If I am remembering right Herol had a point taken which would have given him a draw if it had not happened. I think the ref also gave Mike a count at some point but the ringside judges refused to count it, as it looked a slip. although I may not be right on the last bit.

showed some chin in that jackson fight too, took some good shots there before finishing him. but even he could not escape being hurt a bit by the huge hawk hammer
