He’s fun but he’s another Wilder
Wilder has/had one trick, and not a lot else really.
Fabio has knocked guys out with a lot of right hooks sure, but not limited to that, Coffie was mostly body shots and Adeleye was a left. Probably more.
Also has ring IQ, something Wilder lacks.
i mean he drew with clark two fights ago, he's a big hitter but clearly limited. he jumped on him in the rematch but showed nothing new really. ive always liked fab and rated him higher than most, but now feel he has gotten a bit overrated off the last fight

i doubt wilder woulda drawn with fraz clarke, he won enough fights in a row vs 2nd and 3rd class guys to show that

It’s funny how some people now are like “wardly is great Clarke is shit” considering they had a 12 round war not long ago….

Boxing is a superbly skillful sport, but there is also a lot of luck involved. And whenever someone gets hurt early, the result or the rest of the fight might not tell the full story….like

Ruiz vs AJ one with Ruiz equilibrium scrambler

Parker vs Whyte with head clash rocking Parker

Parker vs bakole top of head brain scrambler

Moses vs Dempsey behind the ear brain scrambler

Wardly vs Clark 2…

These are fair wins and legit results (except Whyte vs Parker in my opinion), but they all came down to 1 shot and it’s effect, not a an outclassing… they (as a stand alone result) don’t show that the winner is in fact far supirior.

ya exactly, a lotta people have short memories. i get that wardley blitzed him in the rematch, but he showed no new ingredients, he just happened to catch him early this time.

Wilder dropped off a cliff, which happens to fighters after serious beatings. Nobody rates Wilder at all now, but the version of Wilder that got the draw with Fury sparks both Clarke and Wardley out.

FABIO WARDLEY'S IMMINENT NEW ARRIVAL PROVIDING NERVY BUILD-UP FOR JUSTIS HUNI SHOWDOWN

IPSWICH, England - Regardless of what happens in the ring on Saturday, June 7 in the centre of the pitch at Portman Road, Fabio Wardley’s life is set to undergo a profound change just days later.

That is because once the biggest fight of his life against Justis Huni, at the home of Ipswich Town, is out of the way, the 30-year-old’s partner is due to give birth to their first child, a baby daughter.

Wardley puts his head in his hands momentarily when it is suggested that the timing could be slightly tricky, given the risk of an early arrival interrupting his preparation. To borrow a football phrase, it is now ‘squeaky bum time’ for Wardley as he approaches fight week.

“This is a slightly tense topic,” Wardley laughs. “My Mrs wasn’t the happiest with this fight date.

“She is due a week later but it is Portman Road. It’s not just any fight, it’s the one at Portman Road. She said ‘yeah I know but…’.

“They say the chances are that the first one comes late but who knows. Whatever will be will be at this stage. I’m just focusing on my job at this point and that is winning the fight.

“It’s a mad 2025 and really just a mad June but I can’t wait. I’m ready for fatherhood. My best mate’s not long had his, a beautiful little girl as well. So being able to watch her grow and knowing that’s coming for me has made me a big softie to be honest. It’s going to be something special and I’m really looking forward to it.”

Over the course of his 19 professional fights, there have been few signs of softness for Wardley (18-0-1, 17 KOs), who is now ranked at No. 10 by The Ring. His 1st-round despatching of Frazer Clarke in their rematch in Riyadh on October 12 also marked the Ipswich man out as one of the division’s most devastating punchers.

So will Wardley lose any of his killer instinct once he is father to a baby daughter?

“I think I will be able to do both,” Wardley tells The Ring. “It will be double bubble for me.

“What I mean is that when I’m at home with her and my family I will be as soft as anything but once it’s training time, fight time, I’ll do the opposite.

“I believe it will make me even more determined, even more driven, even more relentless because now they’re relying on me. That little girl will be relying on and depending on me. I need to go out and do my job.”

For Wardley, that means taking care of fellow undefeated contender Huni, a late stand-in, when they meet at Portman Road next week. Huni has talked up his chances of spoiling the big homecoming but Wardley insists he is thriving on the pressure that comes with being the local favourite.

“Of course it comes with pressure,” Wardley said of fighting outdoors at Portman Road. “But pressure is a privilege. Being here is a privilege.

“Being able to fight here is a privilege and I think I have proven throughout my career that I do well under pressure.

“I like it. When the lights are bright, when the occasion is big, it's when you get the best from me. It's when you get the biggest amount of heart, grit, determination, the biggest amount of focus, and me firing on all cylinders.

“I'm in the best place I've been. I've got so much experience now within this professional game, from a variety of fights up and down the country. I've fought over in Riyadh. I've fought over in Gibraltar. I've fought in the UK, London, Sheffield, here, there, everywhere.

“Small Hall, York Hall. I've mixed it all. I've done it all now. Now it’s about bringing all that experience into one fight and that’s what will happen on June 7.

“Only then will it be time to go back home to become a dad.”

Gorman is a good boxer though, albeit super out of shape etc.

On that note, is Gorman retired now? He is still only 28

I remember being in the crowd for his fight with a ferocious young Daniel Dubois. It was quite the one-sided hiding, and any designs he may have had on being a proper contender were punched out of him that night.

I didn't actually even know he'd fought Fabio to be fair. I thought he'd packed it in.

The only fight I’ve seen of his was against a journeyman type kid, a cruiserweight I think, who I remember almost stopping Huni but then not quite being able to get the job done while a wobbly Huni struggled to hang on for a points decision? Does that sound right or did I confuse him with another fighter?

I never rated Fabio highly until he walked through Clarke, but Huni seems a bit fragile for a professional heavyweight to me and based on what I’ve seen from both of them I reckon Clarke stops him late. If he’s the kid I think he is?
Lerena should have been given the win over Dubois. Dropped him numerous times in round 1 and they needed extreme corruption and rang the bell 10 second early in the round while Dubois was down and looking like he was ready to quit. He probably gets waved off if he gets up and is quitting there. He also could have just been waved off from a final barrage from Lerena. He had been down 3 times and his legs were completely gone.

A timekeeper, whose job is to be aware of the time of the round at all times, got it wrong to the tune of 10 seconds. And what a coincidence that it really helped Dubois, the home fighter, out.

It was one of the most corrupt things that has happened in a Brit ring.

Wardley has done all that has been asked of him, but I thought he lost the Clarke fight, and although the rematch was conclusive there was an element of freak injury about it.

I sense a surprise loss at some point with Wardley, not sure it's Huni, as I know nothing about him?

The big problem Huni has is that he can't punch. You need something to keep Wardley off. It could be a rerun of Gorman v Wardley for a few rounds before he gets to him.

I remember that fight it was brutal. He lost to a journeyman too since, Dobry-something, was a shame as he was likeable not that that should determine if someone wins. I’d be giving terrible decisions based on someone being a good lad etc

Yeah that is a pretty good take. I've seen a bit of Huni and he can move well, it might take a few rounds before Wardley catches him, but I'm betting he will.
The one thing I don't know about Huni is his chin because I haven't really seen it tested. Andrew Tabiti would be his hardest hitting opponent so far is my guess, maybe Coneye can confirm that?
They tend to recycle heavyweight stepping stones between NZ and Oz, so I've seen a few of the guys in Huni's resume. No real bangers stand out to me.

How easy it is to forget these things. Yes, I remember this fight where Dubois was on the rebuild after Joyce and got his brain scrambled here. People eventually put it down to Dubois putting his ankle out or something, didn't they? I was never sold on that.

After Dubois beat AJ, plenty of people here were trying to anoint him number two in the division just behind Usyk, over Fury, which seemed crazy to me as the Lerena fight where Dubois looked awful was much fresher in my mind. For some reason I had Lerena as the cruiserweight who gave Parker a hard time after Joyce. But looking at the records, that was Jack Massey wasn't it?

I really took my eye off the ball with boxing for a few years. Certainly at a lower level.

People love to try to discredit Tyson. He was ready for the knackers yard after losing a split to Usyk apparently... Yet they rate Usyk as an all time great. It doesn't even make sense.

While I agree that fury shouldent of got as discarded as second class for his losses to usyk. The “split” though was pretty definitive, just like AJs “split”…. But I think it’s fury’s biggest achievement honestly.

Conversely, fury’s rise was beating a 39 year old who never won again… and then retired/served a doping ban…

Then his second rise was against wilder who honestly nearly no Brit’s rated and the trilogy only got hyped up because wilder vs fury 1 was close (which dosent actualy say wilder was good… it might well just say both were poor)…

Had fury just delt with wilder easily the first fight it actualy would have diminished fury’s legacey… fury getting knocked down in the 12th while clearly a career low light is somehow actualy Tyson fury’s defining moment which has lead to him being peoples universal number 2 even though he is retired and hasn’t beat a boxer in 2.5 years… go figure.

So I agree the “he is done” after losing to usyk is harsh. But That view is also very kind to him suggesting he was much much better at some other point in his career, even though there is little proof of that.

Tyson Fury is/was a great fighter. You Brits have this thing where you either irrationally worship a fighter or disdain him in a completely binary fashion. In Fury's case it's obviously the latter. It's completely absurd to read. You'd think he was some prospect who fell short when he was the heavyweight champion of the world and just had two very competitive fights with someone who is probably one of the greatest fighters of all time full stop.

Kevin Lerena had Huni wobbling all over the place with a left hook. I guess the South African has to be classified as a puncher, maybe at cruiser, I know he put triple D over but that was a knee injury, I think.

But yeah it’s a problem he’s not got a big punch to keep Fabio off him. The good news for the Brit is he can definitely hurt the Aussie, and Fabio obviously can bang. The not so great news is the fact that Huni is a tough SOB and survived that crisis to come back and win. I think the Brit can do it with the momentum behind him, and maybe Frank has made another good call here

I'm surprised they didn't have him fighting in and around arenas in Ipswich coming up but good on them if it's selling well. I thought it would bomb
