Joseph Parker and Derek Chisora may meet for a third time.

A third fight between Joseph Parker and Derek Chisora may be in the works, with the WBO saying they would approve a bout between the two, and that the sanctioning body would allow it to be for the interim belt Parker currently holds.

Sky Sports reports that David Higgins, Parker’s promoter, says their side would be open to the idea, which could be the biggest money fight available for Parker, who hopes to return in September.

This doesn’t mean the fight will happen, though. Parker (36-3, 24 KO) is in line as the mandatory challenger for the winner of the July 19 undisputed clash between Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois, and Chisora (36-13, 23 KO) does have a spot in line with the IBF, though at the moment he would have to wait for another eliminator before a final eliminator, it appears, as the sanctioning body has ordered a Frank Sanchez vs Efe Ajagba rematch.

At 41, and looking to wind his career down, Chisora simply may not want to wait around on the IBF ordeal to play out, and there would be good money in a fight with Parker.

Chisora and Parker met twice in 2021, in May and December of that year, with Parker eking out decision wins both times in Manchester, England. Chisora is no stranger to trilogies that don’t follow a traditional path, as he faced — and lost to — Tyson Fury three times.

“War” Chisora is currently on a three-fight win streak, most recently scoring a decision win over Otto Wallin on February 8, and he’s 4-1 in his last five, following the two losses to Parker.

Parker, 33, is really on the best run of his career, with six straight wins including his last three over Deontay Wilder, Joe Joyce, and a late-notice version of Martin Bakole on February 22.

Joseph Parker has been given the green light to defend his WBO interim heavyweight title against Derek Chisora in a trilogy clash.

Parker is expected to return in September and has already been named as the next mandatory challenger for the winner of Oleksandr Usyk vs Daniel Dubois at Wembley on July 19.

With the New Zealander set to select his next opponent from the WBO rankings, the governing body have stated that they would approve a third fight between Parker and the No 7 ranked Chisora.

"Yes, Parker may defend his interim title against any of the top-15 WBO world-rated contenders," WBO president Gustavo Olivieri told Sky Sports.

Parker's promoter David Higgins has confirmed that the Kiwi would welcome another showdown with Chisora.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said "I'm sure he would be [open to a third fight], yes."

Queensberry promotions, who represent Parker and Chisora, are currently putting plans in place for the upcoming months.

"We are working on our autumn events schedule and look forward to announcing some great events in due course," said a Queensberry spokesperson when asked about a potential Parker vs Chisora 3 fight.

Parker defeated Chisora by split decision, despite being floored twice by the Brit in 2021, but the former WBO world champion inflicted three knockdowns on Chisora while sealing a unanimous decision victory in a rematch later that year.

Chisora has rejuvenated his career in recent years, defeating Kubrat Pulev, Joe Joyce and Otto Wallin within his last five fights and has been seeking a significant clash for his 50th professional bout.

He had previously been named as 'mandatory challenger' for Daniel Dubois' IBF title but his position has become unclear after the IBF ordered Frank Sanchez to fight Efe Ajagba in an eliminator.

Parker is in red-hot form himself, having reeled off victories over Deontay Wilder, Zhilei Zhang and Martin Bakole, but would be risking his world title plans in another shootout with the dangerous Chisora.

Better than sitting around, and Chisora can put up a fair bit of resistance.
Be interesting to see if Parker can stop him, and that's about it.
It's nice to have the belts together but it does leave guys like Parker and Kayabel out in the wilderness for months and months.

yeah, Chisora is like a moving meat piñata at times, painful to watch, but he does seem to get to the end of the fights still. I'd be hoping for Parker's sake that he KOs Chisora to keep up his momentum. bloody rematch rematches

It’s not the worst fight out there for Parker, probably going to be decent money for a stay busy bout while he waits for Usyk/Dubois to play out. For Chisora it’s a high-profile finale fighting for a title and the chance of gaining revenge over Parker.

Parker demolished Chisora in their second fight four years ago and since then Parker has been on a "special diet". Parker by KO. Unnecessary fight when there's better fights available for both of them

Completely forgot about this, but I also thought Chisora won the first fight and had Parker over early, didn't he? I also thought Chisora won the first fight with Whyte. But these were close fights and so you can't argue robbery, it's just a subjective thing isn't it?

I think people have the Usyk fight as close in their minds because Chisora came out and kinda threw him around for a few rounds and made Usyk look uncomfortable and outmuscled at points. But I think he could've stopped Chisora and looked like he was going to, somewhere around the middle, maybe round 7? A few people, including Fury, have suggested Usyk sandbagged against Chisora to get AJ and his team to underestimate him and take the fight. I could see it.

The first Pulev fight was very one sided. Pulev was laughing at him in there. Maybe Del won 2 rounds or something? And that's being very generous.

JOSEPH PARKER REVEALS FAILED TALKS WITH DEREK CHISORA AND DAVE ALLEN, EYES SEPTEMBER-OCTOBER RETURN

-- We're into the final hours of fight week and, in the absence of a stacked undercard buzzing with names and storylines to investigate, a few familiar faces dominate the hubbub all wanting that moment on their channel drumming up more views.

Joseph Parker is easy to spot, if not from his imposing 6ft 4in frame or lingering entourage then the infectious jovial mood his presence exudes, no matter the situation.

Whether being squashed in a makeshift scrum or shuffled aside for a bigger personality he recognises from afar, everything is fine: Parker smiles and ignores several calls to depart to graciously offer more of his time. He likes it here, though the Kiwi would much rather prefer to be on the top table preparing for battle again and a second appearance of the year.

Queensberry chief allegedly told The Ring of the promotion's collective eagerness to keep Parker (36-3, 24 KOs) busy and potentially feature on this bill back in late April. What has happened since then?

Warren walked back those comments in mid-May, saying he'd spoken to Team Parker and a September return was more likely with an inevitable eye on the Oleksandr Usyk vs. Daniel Dubois rematch, which will be streamed live on DAZN PPV tonight from 5.30pm BST.

The WBO have said they are next in rotation and the winner would need to satisfy their mandatory challenger - Parker as the interim champion - so either he'd fight for the belts or be elevated to full champion like Dubois found himself the beneficiary of last year.

Highly-regarded coach Andy Lee declared his charge was most deserving of the chance in the Usyk sweepstakes during an exclusive Sky Sports interview, given his impressive run saw him go from forgettable former champion to rejuvenated bonafide contender.

"Deontay Wilder, Zhilei Zhang, Martin Bakole. Six fights on the trot [since his 11th-round stoppage loss by Joe Joyce] and each performance has been more impressive than the last - I can't recall a heavyweight that's been in that type of form without getting a title fight. So he's earned and deserves it," the Irishman said in May.

Parker has conceded trash talk and cutting promos, something an emboldended Dubois is engaging in of late, isn't his style. Yet as the saying goes, closed mouths don't get fed.

So while he skilfully answers a variety of ways how Usyk will again beat the Brit unless something seismic changes from the opening bell tonight, the 33-year-old can't mask his frustration any longer.

"If I could have fought four or five times a year, I would have loved to. For now, one fight a year, it's just not good enough," he tells The Ring when asked about his dwindling activity compared to the aforementioned run that got him back into contention among the elite.

He talks about a preference to fight Usyk given the unbeaten Ukrainian's illustrious accomplishments across two weight divisions, swats away questions about Tyson Fury ending his retirement for a long-awaited Anthony Joshua showdown and tells a media scrum how he's backing Terence Crawford to beat Canelo Alvarez in two months' time.

More pressingly though, what about him?

"There was truth in the talks about fights with Derek Chisora, then Dave Allen yeah... but I want to wait for this result and see how it all unfolds," he continues, before doubling down on a desire to return between September and October after playfully telling others that he'd fight tomorrow if granted the chance. Sometimes waiting isn't ideal but the better option.

It's a stance he maintained on talkSPORT hours earlier, telling the panel he stands to gain little in a prospective Allen matchup before the pair did punditry together. Warren previously told The Ring it could feature on a Queensberry vs. Matchroom 5v5 event later this year.

"All respect to Dave and what he's done but I want to fight those above me, want to be world champion and fighting him isn't going to get me closer to my goal. Usyk or Dubois."

Parker's manager David Higgins told New Zealand outlet Stuff about a two-fight deal in place with Queensberry, expecting the belts will again fragment and he could fight for the full world championship as soon as three months' time. An expedited title tilt for Moses Itauma and a Joshua rematch are among whispers that have long featured his name too.

Chisora (36-13, 23 KOs) hasn't been forgotten, sitting tight as the IBF's top-ranked contender for Dubois' belt, while another Queensberry-backed heavy in Agit Kabayel (26-0, 18 KOs) awaits a Germany homecoming after recovering from a career-first knockdown to score a 6th-round stoppage of Zhilei Zhang, winning the WBC's interim title in February.

Maintaining patience through the buzz of others isn't an easy trait to have, especially at a time where Lee's services are certainly in high demand. Parker knows how difficult the route to this juncture has been for him though, so a hasty decision now could prove costly.
