British HW prospect Adrian "The Next' King

Post by Controversial »

Anyone know much about him? I think he's only about 18 and trained by Curtis Woodhouse, he hasn't had a pro fight yet but Woodhouse thinks he's the next big thing in the HW division. I think he makes his debut in a few months.

To be honest it's far too soon to turn over , I worked on the show he made his debut on & he boxed well fo his first ever bout . Adrian boxed again a few weeks later and won again but 2 novice 3 x 2 minute rounds is not enough to turn professional. Curtis should keep him in the amateurs for another year at least & box every month , enter the novice championships probably taste a couple of defeats which happens in the game . Looking at the pro heavyweight in the UK who's he going to box , there's only a couple of journeymen out there Phil Williams & Jake Darnell, in the pros you just can't afford to lose your 0 & at 18 it's far too young for a heavyweight to turn over .

He's only had two amateur fights? I didn't know that, yes far too early

I agree with the previous comments.

He should do a Boomer - win the under 10s, then the under 20s and then the ABAs and take it from there.

a much stronger prospect on the card....

Lhw gradus kraus could be the best dutch fighter in a good while. boxed around the world as an am. and also beat a cuban olympic champ, a croatian olympian/euro am champ, & a good khazak am in world series of boxing style fights in iba.

a bit excited here with all the herky jerky aggression, but id expect him to box more measured vs better opponents, he showed he can in the ams and iba. there he also showed a good gas tank and was getting stronger as fights went on , with good body work (thats how he broke the croatian)

i remember watching an old kickboxing match of his dad albert, and after dad won it panned to his wife/gf in the crowd holding little gradus. just like it did here with albert's lady. makes me feel old and nostalgic :oo

mcguigan looks massive btw, kraus is a decent size himself. kraus is so f@cking handsome too isnt he

The 'herky jerky' stuff, as you call it, could well be the Peter Fury influence. He encourages lots of feints and it can be over done. I too like Kraus. Exciting prospect. Wonder how long he is signed to Izzy for? Needs a bigger platform at the earliest opportunity.

There really has been a death of area and English title level heavyweights in the uk. Look at all the guys ranked below say 15 or so in the uk heavyweight rankings and most of the guys there are fighting only once, twice or three times a year. Lewis Williams and Marty Harris are about the only guys who I could see fighting more often and they obviously have the luxury of one of the big promoters. Nick Webb won the southern area against Courtney Bennett and I’ll be amazed if he defends it. Unless you’re a prospect who is passing through onto British title level or better it seems there’s just not regular fights.

interesting, peter doesnt really seem like a natural fit with kraus's aggressive style but maybe they work well together or something. seemed rather excessive with all the herk and jerk and like it was kinda over movement and wasted energy. he did quiet it down in the 2nd round though and maybe against more of a threat he'd be more measured

Re bigger platform. I'm probably wrong there. Forgot he was on DAZN, as long as the Dutch can see it, he'll be okay.

He's always used a lot of body movement and reflexes for his defence, nothing wrong with that but unless he has other worldly stamina he will need to adapt a bit to conserve fuel. One to watch definitely.

Matchmaker probably got that one wrong with hindsight. Wasn't a controversial decision. The man from Czechia was the worthy winner.

Curtis and King just need to keep learning and maybe revisit that same opponent in 12 months or so. King isn't fighting to his height; until they sort that he'll keep coming unstuck.

King was very well dressed in the pre-fight interview I saw before this loss.

Not sure why he's turned over so soon but if he's 25-5 & knocking on the door of a title shot in 5 years then maybe they've done it the old school way - and it worked.

Or maybe he'll fizzle out within a year or two.

Curtis doesn't rate the ams.... God knows why as it's blatantly obvious he needs a lot more experience.

Yep. There's only one heavyweight in the world making a decent living out of boxing that didn't have a good amateur pedigree or have a solid background in another combat sport. One! On a planet of eight billion people. Wardley is unique.

I'm not even sure Curtis believes what he says himself. He's all about the hype. He's a huge fan of Atang and has known him since he was a little kid. He's well aware of what a good amateur background can do. Maybe he knew Adrian was up against it in the seniors after just two bouts so turned him over. Better than getting good hidings on club shows I suppose.

Adrian is a big lump & pretty durable , in today’s age he would make a very good living as a journeyman .
Unfortunately he may box for the central area title at best
He could get 2/3 K a fight on the road .

He got punched in the head a good few times the other night, mate. Earning £2.5k for a move around is good if you aren't taking shots but it's nowhere near enough to get filled in properly once a month. Get a job and keep your brain cells or sharpen up your defence (a lot) and get a job and do a few move arounds a year to flesh your income out.

Have been involved in matching both King and Kraus at least once King is a lot better than some on here seem to think I think he is far more suited to the pros than Am but that just my perspective unless your a Olympian or ABA champion then if you can box you still have to adapt massively for the pros so less can be more.

Kraus on the other hand is going to be a Matchmakers nightmare as people will want good money to fight him as he looks very strong.

I don't think he's bad at all, it's just the hype around him is silly for what he's done so far.
