Prime Middleweight Emile Griffith vs. Prime Rubin "Hurricane" Carter

Post by scorpio83 »

15 Rounds Middleweight Bout

We all know that Rubin "Hurricane" Carter stopped Emile Griffith in the first round while Griffith was still the world welterweight champion. However, what if the Hurricane fought the prime middleweight version of Emile Griffith who beat Dick Tiger and fought the trilogy with Nino Benvenuti? I believe that Griffith would use the ring to box long range to outbox the Hurricane behind his jabs and landing good combinations without engaging him on the inside too much as Griffith would take a decision. What do you guys think and who do you got?

Some of what would've been Hurricane Carter's best fighting years were likely spent in Prison. We won't ever really know how good that was or wasn't.

I don't expect he'd be getting anymore 1st round KO victories over Emile. I think that was likely a one off fluke, but nevertheless it's a spectacular win on his record.

If you study Carter's career, you'll see that he was past his peak when he went to prison. He was not cheated out of his best years nor deprived of them. Have you seen his bouts with Mims, Benton, Giardello, Griffith, Fernandez, Brennan? Carter was a very good fighter.

I won't be surprised if the great Emile Griffith wins. He was the better fighter.

But, at the same time, I would not be surprised if Rubin "Hurricane" Carter wins. It won't be by knockout. But he could beat Griffith again because he was much more stronger than Griffith.

In a trilogy, I could see Griffith win at least a fight or win two out of 3. He was that great.
