Canelo Alvarez vs Ilunga Makabu

Canelo's cruiserweight voyage that never happened.

At the WBC convention in late 2021, Mauricio Sulaiman accepted Eddy Reynoso's request to grant Canelo a shot at the then-WBC cruiserweight champ Ilunga Makabu. Canelo and Makabu even came face-to-face and embraces each other at the convention.

That was right after Canelo's win over Plant, that made him Undisputed at 168lbs. Canelo's team wanted to "continue making history" by moving up to CW.

Obviously, the fight never happened. Possibly, because there wasn't enough appeal in it. Canelo would soon accept DAZN/Eddie Hearn 2-fight deal for LHW bout against Bivol and GGG 3 fight at SMW.

After losing to Bivol, Canelo never attempted to move above 168 anymore.

Still, if Canelo-Makabu happens instead of Canelo-Bivol, how it goes?
