Lester Martinez-Pierre Dibombe set for July 12 ProBox TV show

Lester Martinez will return to California for his second straight fight.

The unbeaten super middleweight contender is set for his second fight of 2025, as he will face France’s Pierre Dibombe. Their scheduled 10-round regional title fight will take place on July 12, with ProBox TV to stream live from Frontwave Arena in Oceanside, California.

Guatemala’s Martinez, 19-0 (16 KOs), will enter the fight on the heels of a sensational fourth-round knockout win over Joeshon James.

Their oft-rescheduled battle of undefeated boxers finally settled atop a March 22 ProBox TV show from Orange Show Events Center in San Bernardino, California. Martinez previously fell ill just after the weigh-in to their eventually canceled September 11 battle, then suffered an injury that forced another delay.

Once they finally made their way to the ring, Martinez made the most of the opportunity. A Brian “Bomac” McIntyre-trained banger, Martinez floored James late in the third and again in the fourth, the latter knockdown forcing the stoppage.

Martinez shook loose nine months’ worth of ring rust but will now return to his normal cadence of activity.

Dibombe has lost each of his past two starts.

A 33-year-old from Nantes, France, Dibombe was undefeated prior to a technical decision defeat against Bektemir Melikuziev last April 20 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Five months later, Dibombe suffered a contentious decision defeat to Ali Akhmedov, whom he floored in the eighth round of their September 20 meeting in Dublin, Ireland.

Dibombe will fight on the road for the fifth straight time. He fought exclusively in France from his March 2014 pro debut through 2021, before hitting the road to fight in Canada, the US, Ireland and now back in the States.

Martinez will appear in the US for the seventh time. All of those starts will have come in his past nine fights come fight night.

Lester Martinez, Vladimir Hernandez, and Badillo-Zapata eliminator top July ProBox TV bill

Lester Martinez Brian McIntyre Garry Jonas Terence
Super middleweight contender Lester Martinez looks to continue his world title charge when he fights Pierre Dibombe in Fresno, California.

They will fight in a 10-rounder at the Save Mart Center on July 12, live on ProBox TV, with Guatemala’s Martinez looking to capitalize on his stunning knockout win of undefeated Joeshon James in February.

Martinez’s knockout-heavy record – 19-0 (16 KOs) – speaks to his action-first style. The 29-year-old is hoping to break through in a bustling 168lbs division that includes the likes of Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, Caleb Plant, Diego Pacheco, Christian Mbilli, Oslyes Iglesias, Edgar Berlanga and many more.

Martinez is ranked No. 2 by the WBA, No. 8 with the WBC, and 15 with the WBO. He trains under Brian “Bomac” McIntyre, the heralded coach of Terence Crawford.

The Frenchman Dibombe is 22-2-1 (12 KOs) but the 33-year-old suffered recent losses to the hard-hitting duo of Ali Akhmedov and Bektemir Melikuziev.

Elsewhere on the bill, the all-action southpaw Vladimir Hernandez – who fights out of Stockton – looks to continue his run of three good wins against Florida-based Argentine Francisco Veron, who is 14-1-1 (10 KOs). Hernandez has been matched tough, so is better than his 17-6 (7 KOs) record suggests and his recent form has earned him a top 15 ranking with the WBC.

Elsewhere on the bill, in a junior bantamweight title eliminator, 17-0 (8 KOs) Erick Badillo stakes his unbeaten record against Nicaraguan southpaw Gerardo Zapata, who fights out of Miami, Florida.

Zapata, who lost a decision to the excellent champion Oscar Collazo last year, is 15-2-1 (5 KOs).

Unbeaten bantamweight Katsuma Akitsugi risks his 12-0 (3 KOs) record against tough Mexican Luis Robles Pacheco, who is 15-4-1 (5 KOs).

Katsuma fights out of Los Angeles but was born in Japan, and the southpaw returned with two stoppage wins last year following some time out of the ring.

Promising Mongolian southpaw, Tsendbaatar Erdenebat – 12-0 (6 KOs) – fights out of Paramount, California, takes on Mexico-based Californian Humberto Galindo, who is 14-3-3 (11 KOs), and is coming off two solid draws against Oscar Bravo and Abraham Nova.

Hernandez, Erdenebat, and Akitsugi added to ProBox TV Fresno bill

With the return of exciting super middleweight contender Lester Martinez confirmed for the Save Mart Center in Fresno on July 12, Vladimir Hernandez, Tsendbaatar Erdenebat and Katsuma Akitsugi have all been added to the ProBox TV bill.

Guatemalan puncher Martinez, 19-0 (16 KOs) and ranked No. 3 by the WBA, 9 by the WBC and 15 with the WBO, is coming off a big early win over Joeshon James, takes on Frenchman Pierre Hubert Dibombe, 22-2-1 (12 KOs) in the headliner, with a co-main that sees Erick Badillo collide with Gerardo Zapata in a WBC title eliminator at light flyweight. Badillo is No. 2 with the WBC with Zapata rated No. 7.

Zapata, 15-2-1 (5 KOs), is from Nicaragua but fighting out of Miami, while Badillo is 17-0 (8 KOs), and boxing out of Mexico for the first time in his career.

Battle-hardened Stockton-based Mexican Hernandez, perhaps the best 17-6 fighter in the sport and ranked NO. 15 by the WBC, takes on Argentina junior middleweight Francisco Veron, who brings with him a 14-1-1 (10 KOs) record.

Boxing Scene Today features WBO welterweight champion Brian Norman Jr. in Tokyo as he prepares to defend his title against rising contender Jin Sasaki. Norman discusses his confidence, global mindset, and why he believes he’s destined for greatness, even on foreign soil. Get insider insights into his training camp, fan expectations, and what this defense means for his legacy.

Southpaw Hernandez came through a hard-fought battle against Isaias Lucero in March.
Undefeated California-based Mongolian Erdenebat – a 12-0 (6 KOs) lightweight southpaw – meets Humberto Galindo, who lives in Tijuana but was born in West Covina, California. Galindo is 14-3-3 (11 KOs).
Meanwhile, southpaw Akitsugi – from Japan but living in California, has been paired with Luis Robles Pacheco, who is a Mexican bantamweight with a 15-4-1 (5 KOs) record. It is Akitsugi’s first fight of the year, following 2024 victories over Jesus Ramirez Rubio and Aston Palicte.

Pacheco did 10 rounds with Leonardo Carrillo in Panama in May.
The bill will be aired live on the ProBox TV YouTube channel.

Lester Martinez out of ProBox TV main event suffering with migraines

Promising super-middleweight contender Lester Martinez has been forced to withdraw from Saturday night’s main event versus Pierre Hubert Dibombe at Fresno’s Save Mart Arena due to migraine headaches, ProBox TV CEO Garry Jonas announced Monday.

The 29-year-old Martinez 19-0 (16 KOs) of Guatemala is ranked by three sanctioning bodies, including his No. 3 position by the WBA, and is coming off a fourth-round knockout of Joeshon James March 22 in San Bernardino, California, on another ProBox TV main event.

Cornered by 2023 trainer of the year Brian “BoMac” McIntyre, Martinez is ranked ninth in the WBC super-middleweight rankings, and title-fight eligible in the WBO, as well, while sitting at No. 15.

The migraines struck “during his last week of sparring,” Jonas reports.

“Due to sensitivities regarding a boxer’s health, you cannot take any chances with the migraines, and putting him in the ring under those circumstances would be taking an unnecessary risk to his health,” Jonas said.

“In an abundance of caution, Lester will not fight [Saturday] and will undergo tests with neuro specialists in Miami this week to resolve the problem and clear him to resume boxing. We expect to see Lester back in the ring this fall.”

Saturday’s card will now be headlined by a junior-middleweight tilt pitting Mexico’s Vladimir Hernandez 17-6 (7 KOs) versus Argentina’s Francisco Daniel Veron 14-1-1 (10 KOs).

The show still features a WBC junior-flyweight eliminator pitting Mexico’s Erick Badillo 17-0 (8 KOs) versus Nicaragua’s Gerado Zapata 15-2-1 (5 KOs) in the co-main event.

Other bouts include Japan’s unbeaten bantamweight Katsuma Akitsugi 12-0 (3 KOs) versus Jonas Sultan 19-7 (11 KOs) of the Philippines and unbeaten Mongolian lightweight Tsendbaatar Erdenebat 12-0 (6 KOs) vs. Mexico’s Humberto Galindo 14-3-3 (11 KOs).

Despite the absence of the rugged Martinez, Jonas said, “The benefit of ProBox TV’s deep cards is we can withstand a fight falling out.”

The card will begin at 6 p.m. Eastern/3 p.m. Pacific and conclude by 9:30 p.m. Eastern/6:30 p.m. Pacific, to avoid conflict with the Saturday night DAZN card headlined by Edgar Berlanga-Hamzah Sheeraz and Shakur Stevenson versus William Zepeda in New York.
